Our school’s student union decided to set up a feeding corner for the stray small animals on campus this term, which is to show our care for the homeless little lives and let all students learn to be kind to animals. This activity has received support from all teachers and students, and it has become a warm activity on our campus. 36 Through this activity, we learn a valuable lesson: every living creature deserves care.
To build the feeding corner well, the student union first organized some volunteers to find a suitable place on campus. 37 The place they chose is in the quiet corner of the campus garden, far from the teaching buildings, so it won’t affect students’ study and class. The volunteers also cleaned the place carefully and built a small wooden house for the stray animals to shelter from wind and rain.
After the place is ready, the student union made some rules for the feeding corner. 38 We can bring some cat food, dog food or other healthy food for the small animals, but we can’t bring spicy or sweet food that is bad for their health. We also need to keep the feeding corner clean and tidy, and clean up the leftover food every day.
Many students take an active part in the activity of caring for the stray animals. 39 Some students take time to feed the small animals every day after class, some clean the wooden house regularly, and some even take photos of the small animals and record their growth. This small feeding corner has become a warm spot on the campus.
The feeding corner for stray animals is more than just a place to give food to small animals. 40 It not only lets the homeless small animals have a warm place to live, but also teaches all students to be kind and responsible. Public Welfare Activity of Guide Dog Popularization on Campus
Last month, our school held a special public welfare(福利) activity about guide dogs in the school hall. The activity was organized by the Students’ Union, which invited several trainers from the local guide dog training base to give us a lecture. It aimed to help students know more about guide dogs, understand their hard work and treat these special animals with more respect and care.
During the activity, the trainers first told us about the training process of guide dogs. It takes about 1-2 years to train a healthy puppy into a qualified guide dog. The dogs need to learn many skills, such as leading the blind to avoid obstacles(障碍物), stopping at traffic lights and finding safe routes. The trainers also brought a 3-year-old guide dog named Lucky to the scene. Lucky showed us how to help its owner walk safely on the stage, and all students were deeply attracted by its clever performance.
Besides the lecture and performance, our school also set up a charity corner. Students could donate pocket money to support the training and life of guide dogs. We also made handwritten posters with warm words to call on more people to care for guide dogs. The activity was very successful, and nearly all students took part in it actively.
This activity brought us a lot of benefits. We not only learned professional knowledge about guide dogs but also realized the importance of protecting and respecting working animals. It also taught us to be kind to every living thing and take responsibility for helping the disabled groups around us.
