Unit 6 Nature in words Developing ideas（文本解读）
教学目标
学生在完成本课学习后，能够：
通过略读、寻读和精读，概括文章每段大意，辨识文本类型，并回答问题链中的细节性问题，思考《寂静的春天》一书所传递的信息；
通过梳理主观和客观因素，总结《寂静的春天》一书成功背后的原因，并阐述其对社会的启示；
通过分析颁奖词的语言特点，表达并分享自己对Rachel Carson个人美好品质的理解，进一步思考《寂静的春天》一书所产生的社会影响，阐明人类活动对自然环境的影响，提高保护大自然的意识。

-Ss recall spring in their memories;
-Ss observe and describe the picture of spring in the book.

Step 2: Pre-reading
Activity 2: Prediction
-Ss pay attention to the typeface of Para. 1, the sidebar information and the illustration in the book;
(From the textbook, page 90&91)
--Ss predict the content of following parts in the passage.
-To guide Ss to recall the prior knowledge about a book review;
-To prepare Ss for reading, encouraging them to engage in the reading process more actively.

Step 3: While-reading
Activity 3: Read for main idea (5 mins)
-Ss look through the passage and get the main idea of each paragraph;
--Ss check their prediction;
--Ss identify the type of the passage.
Activity 4: Read for the detailed information (10 mins)
--Ss read the passage again, and answer the questions from the problem-chain.
(Take Para. 1 for example:
Q1: What’s the spring like in the book?
Q2: How about the spring in the past? How do you know?
Q3: What’s the writing technique?
Q4: What’s the function?)
-To guide Ss to seize the main idea of each paragraph;
-To help Ss identify the type of the passage and review the structure of a book review.
-To lead Ss to further explore the passage;
-To remind Ss to pay attention to the logical words.

Activity 6: Read and analyze the excerpt from the award speech for Carson.
-Ss read the excerpt from the award speech for Carson, share words that impress them most and give the reasons.

-To help Ss think about the reasons for the book’s success and have insights into the society.
-To guide Ss note the language features of the excerpt and further sense the qualities of Rachel Carson and the power of Silent Spring.

Step 4: Post-reading
Activity 7: Summarize the theme of the two passages in the unit.
-Ss compare and analyze the differences and similarities of the two passages in the unit.
-To help Ss understand the theme of the unit better;
-To help Ss reflect on the relationship between human beings and nature.
分析与评价
多数学生能够通过比较，分析本单元两篇文章所表达主题的相同点及表达形式的不同点，加深对单元主题的理解，并进一步思考人类活动对自然环境的影响，提高保护大自然的意识。
Homework: Share with others a book about nature
-Ss read poems or literary excerpts about nature;
-Ss share it with others by writing a book review. (120-150 words)
The content includes:
an excerpt of the book;
brief introduction to the author;
the content of the book;
writing purpose;
influences;
different comments (including your own insights)
...
-To allow Ss read more literary works concerning nature and further explore the theme of the unit;
-To help Ss apply what they have learned in the class.
