Son (nervous, voice small):
I’m back…
Mum (angry, arms crossed, looking at the clock):
Look at the time! A deal is a deal. You promised to be home by nine.
Son (frustrated, trying to explain):
Mum, please listen… My classmate was sick and no one was around to take her home. I had to walk her back to her place.
Mum (curious, softening a little):
So you sent her home Then what did you do
Son (regretful, head down):
I stayed to make sure she was safe, and before I knew it, it was late. Oh, I didn’t think of that… Sorry, Mum… I
know I broke our promise.
Mum (gentle, feeling guilty):
I’m sorry for being cross with you. I was just worried, but I should have let you speak first.
Mum (smiling, eyes warm with pride):
Now I understand. I’m very proud of you. You chose to help someone in need, and that’s the most important thing.
