In Stevie Wonder’s song BlackMan, he sings about Benjamin Banneker: “First clock to be made in America was created by a black man.” Though the song is a fitting respect to the great
inventor, it only touches on the talent of Benjamin Banneker.
As the son of former slaves, Banneker worked on the family tobacco farm and received
some early education from a church school. But most of his advanced knowledge came from
reading. At 15, he took over the farm and invented an irrigation system to control water flowing to the crops from nearby springs. As a result, the crops grew very well, even during droughts.
But it was his invention of the clock that really established a reputation for Benjamin
Banneker. In the early 1750s, Banneker borrowed a pocket watch from a wealthy acquaintance.
He took the watch apart to study its pieces and then reassembled it. After returning the watch, he created a fully-functioning clock entirely out of wooden pieces, which was amazingly precise and would keep on ticking for decades. Due to the attention his self-made clock received, he was able to start up his own watch and clock repair business.
However, Benjamin Banneker’s achievements didn’t end there. Borrowing books on
astronomy and math from a friend, Banneker taught himself the subjects. Putting his newfound
knowledge to use, he accurately predicted a 1789 solar eclipse (日食). In the early 1790s,
Banneker added another job title to his experiences — author. He published an almanac (历书)
entitled Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia Almanack and Ephemeris, and even sent a copy to Thomas Jefferson, who was then the Secretary of State, along with a letter talking about the abolition of slavery.
Impressed by his abilities, Jefferson recommended that Banneker be a member of a
surveying team to lay out Washington, D.C. Appointed to the three-man team by President George Washington, Banneker managed to recreate the plans from memory when the lead architect quit,
taking all the plans with him. Using knowledge like a sword, Benjamin Banneker had many tiles — inventor, scientist, author, abolitionist — his legacy, as a result, lives on to this day.
24 .Why does the author mention Stevie Wonder’s song Black Man?
A .To reveal the true meaning of the song.
B .To show respect for Benjamin Banneker
C .To introduce Benjamin Banneker’s achievements.
D .To prove Benjamin Banneker’s invention of the clock.
25 .What can we learn about Benjamin Banneker from the text?
A .He was primarily self-taught.
B .He preferred to be called a mathematician.
C .He put forward the plans to lay out Washington, D. C.
D .He wrote to Thomas Jefferson to recommend his book.
26 .What made Benjamin Banneker get his fame widely?
A .Predicting a 1789 solar eclipse.
B .Making the first clock in America.
C .Working for Thomas Jefferson as the lead architect.
D .Inventing the most advanced irrigation system in America.
27 .Why did Benjamin Banneker write to Thomas Jefferson?
A .To ask for a job. B .To support slavery.
C .To call for abolition. D .To sell his almanac.

At a time when the general public may not yet accept driver-less taxis and ride-hailing
vehicles, teledriving could offer many of the same benefits, according to a new study. Teledriving typically involves a driver operating a car while sitting in front of a bank of screens that show
video feeds from cameras on the car, as well as sensors and AR technology. Once a passenger has been picked up, transported, and dropped off, the driver can disconnect from that vehicle and
connect to any other available in an area of need.
One of the main advantages of teledriving, says Saif Benjaafar, a professor at the University of Michigan, is that drivers do not need to be physically present with the vehicles. This allows
teledriving to avoid the “wild goose chase” scenario, where drivers waste time searching for
passengers. “Teledriving allows you to operate with far fewer drivers than vehicles without
affecting service quality because you can take advantage of excess vehicles to reach customers
more quickly,” says Benjaafar. “There’s an opportunity to significantly increase driver
productivity, as one of the challenges for ride services has always been idle drivers. Much of that inefficiency can be avoided.”
To support these claims, researchers used advanced computer modeling techniques that
simulate real-world traffic conditions. These models took multiple factors into account, including supply and demand changes, road congestion, and time-o-day patterns, to examine how the
number of available vehicles compared to the number of drivers could impact service efficiency.
The simulations showed that having more vehicles than drivers could significantly reduce traffic congestion and passenger wait times during peak demand periods, leading to a better overall
experience for users.
“This research can be applied to the world by improving the efficiency and
cost-effectiveness of ride-hailing and other on-demand transportation services,” says Benjaafar. “By using teledriving, platforms can potentially operate with fewer drivers while maintaining or even improving service quality, which can lower operational costs and make these services more accessible.”
28 .What happens after a passenger is dropped off in the teledriving system?
A .The vehicle takes a break. B .The vehicle returns to a base.
C .The driver waits for a new ride. D .The driver switches to another vehicle.
29 .How does teledriving improve efficiency of ride-hailing drivers?
A .By shortening work hours. B .By reducing unoccupied drivers.
C .By increasing available vehicles. D .By limiting passenger numbers.
30 .What did the simulations show about vehicles and drivers?
A .Fewer vehicles than drivers reduced wait times.
B .Fewer vehicles than drivers improved service efficiency.
C .More vehicles than drivers helped maintain service quality.
D .More vehicles than drivers caused serious traffic congestion.
31 .What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A .The way of teledriving enhancing traffic congestion.
B .The challenges of reducing wait times for passengers.
C .The necessity of reducing the number of drivers.
D .The potential impact of teledriving on service quality and cost.

A dead zone is an area of the ocean with very low oxygen levels. Throughout the world’s
oceans, there are many dead zones where the majority of marine life cannot survive. These are the oceanic equivalent of a hot desert, with reduced biodiversity due to the extreme conditions. While these dead zones can form naturally, the vast majority are linked to either agricultural practices on
land or the effects of climate change.
As dead zones form in the ocean, they have the potential to impact the overall health of
these waters, as well as the animals and people who rely on them. Dead zones are bad news for
marine biodiversity as they effectively destroy the ecosystem within an affected area. They also
have the potential to destroy economies by impacting the availability of seafood as an income and food source.
While dead zones have been a feature of our oceans for millions of years, they are getting
worse. Researchers have found that over the last 50 years, there’s been a 2% decrease in the levels of dissolved oxygen (溶解氧) in the open ocean. This is expected to become a 3% to 4% decrease by 2100 if action isn’t taken to reduce oceanic pollution as well as the impacts of climate change like increased atmospheric greenhouse gases.
The overall number of oceanic dead zones has been increasing steadily and there are now four times as many dead zones as in the 1950s. The good news is that certain dead zones can
recover if action is taken to control the impacts of pollution. Dead zones formed through the
effects of climate change may be harder to resolve, but their size and impact can be slowed down. As countries start to realize the vast negative impact that dead zones can have, a variety of
measures are being implemented to reduce their occurrence.
32 .What does the underlined word “equivalent” in paragraph 1 mean?
A .Match. B .Enemy. C .Opposite. D .Result.
33 .What can we know about dead zones?
A .They are mainly caused by natural factors.
B .They have been getting better over the years.
C .They are areas of the ocean with excessive oxygen.
D .They pose a threat to marine biodiversity and economies.
34 .Which measure is mentioned to help recover some dead zones?
A .Taking steps to reduce pollution.
B .Studying the effects of climate change.
C .Enhancing agricultural practices on land.
D .Maintaining the levels of dissolved oxygen in the ocean.
35 .Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A .Ocean Dead Zones: Causes, Impacts and Solutions
B .Ocean Dead Zones: Natural Causes and Ecological Effects
C .Ocean Dead Zones: Historical Changes and Current Status
D .Ocean Dead Zones: Biodiversity Loss and Economic Risks

A morning routine is widely recognized as a cornerstone of daily productivity. 36 By intentionally designing your first hour, you set a positive and proactive tone for the day ahead. This practice shifts you from simply reacting to external demands to deliberately focusing on what matters most to you.
37 It helps you to define your goals before daily distractions begin to intrude. For example, ten minutes of meditation or journaling can calm your mind and sharpen your focus
significantly. This mental reset provides much-needed clarity in our busy modern world, creating space for better decision-making throughout the day.
The physical benefits are equally important and noticeable. 38 This investment pays off immediately by boosting your energy levels and improving your mood from the very start. Consistent morning movement, whether it’s a brisk walk, stretching, or a workout, helps regulate your body’s natural rhythms and supports your overall physical well-being over time.
Perhaps the most valuable outcome is the steady cultivation of self-discipline. The simple act of showing up for yourself each day builds a strong sense of personal integrity and control. It provides tangible proof that you can commit to and achieve meaningful personal goals.
39
Ultimately, the most effective routine is the one you can maintain consistently. 40 True power lies not in the specific activities themselves, but in your unwavering commitment to
the daily ritual. Over weeks and months, these small, consistent actions accumulate, gradually building a solid foundation for lasting success and personal fulfillment.
A .It forces you to clarify your daily priorities.
B .This also helps get your body ready for the day.
C .A consistent routine greatly enhances mental clarity.
D .It provides structure and reduces the need to make choices.
E .This includes exercise,a healthy breakfast,or drinking water.
F .This gradual process ultimately forges remarkable inner strength.
G .Yet the true essence lies not in variety but in unwavering consistency.

It was a cold Saturday morning. I heard a faint “meow” from an alley on my way to the
library. There, a tiny, shivering kitten with matted fur lay on wet cardboard. Its dirty paws and
pleading eyes showed pure desperation.Overcome with pity, I gently picked it up. It nestled into my sleeve, a gesture of exhausted trust that deeply moved me.
Yet, my relief soon turned to worry as my mother strictly forbade pets. Holding the kitten, I felt torn between compassion and obedience. Just then, my classmate Tom arrived. Noticing my
distress, he asked what was wrong. After hearing me out, he offered a solution: “My Mom fosters animals. She can care for it temporarily, but we must find it a permanent home quickly.”
Greatly relieved, we took the kitten to his apartment. We fed it warm milk and cleaned its
paws with a soft cloth. The change was immediate — the kitten began to purr and rub against our hands, transformed by warmth and care. That afternoon, Tom and I collaborated on finding it a
home. We took clear photos and made simple posters stating, “Sweet kitten needs a loving home,” along with our contact details. We put them up around the neighborhood: at the community center, the grocery store, and on several lampposts.
By evening, our task was done. The kitten was safe for now, but its future remained
uncertain. Walking home alone, I replayed the day’s events in my mind. The memory of its
purring and the feel of its soft fur lingered. Our act of kindness had given it a chance, yet its fate
now rested with strangers. All we could do was hope that someone would see our posters and offer this little life the forever family it deserved. I whispered a silent wish into the night air, feeling a
connection to the small creature we had helped.

【原文】 M:Hello, I’m John. Today I’m thrilled to share my amazing journey in China. When I first set foot on this vast and mysterious land, I was instantly attracted by its rich history and
vibrant culture. My adventure began in Beijing, where I was struck by the Great Wall. Climbing it was tough but worth it. I could feel its historical might beneath my feet. From there, I hopped on a bullet train to Shanghai. What a contrast! The modern skyline and busy streets were everywhere! Later in Chengdu, I encountered a food lover’s paradise. The spicy hotpot excited my taste buds, and seeing pandas was absolutely joyful. Most memorable were Chinese people. Their smiles and kindness bridged the language gaps. China is a blend of ancient and modern wonders, with
delicious food and warm hearts. I left longing for more, vowing to return. It’s truly a traveler’s dream destination! Thank you all for listening to my story. I hope it inspires you to embark on your own adventure in this amazing country!

67 .One possible version:
The next morning, I received a call from an old lady who said she had seen our poster. Her voice was soft and warm, as she asked carefully about the cat’s health and habits. I answered
every question patiently, and she then told me her address kindly, saying she was already looking forward to meeting the little cat. I hung up excitedly, called Tom at once, and we prepared a small bag of cat food. I held the cat gently in my arms, its body warm and soft, and we set off, hoping it would have a happy new life.
When we took the cat to the old lady’s home, she welcomed us warmly. She opened the
door with a big smile, her eyes sparkling with expectation. I noticed a soft cat bed, a clean food
bowl and a small toy by the window — she had prepared everything carefully. She stretched out
her hand gently to stroke the cat’s head, and the cat rubbed against her hand happily. We felt
relieved and happy, knowing the cat had found a warm and loving home. Sometimes, a small act
of kindness can connect warm hearts and give a helpless life a new start.
