Generations guard heroes’ resting place
For over 90 years, four generations of Feng Lian’s family have guarded the tomb of a Red Army company commander in the mountains of Nanbu county, Sichuan province. Feng, a
33-year-old primary school teacher, is the current keeper of the grave located just 20 meters from her home. Eleven family members are also buried near Commander Liu, who died at age 25
during the revolutionary period.
In 1933, Commander Liu stayed behind to cover the retreat of his forces. He developed a close bond with Feng’s great-grandparents, often helping them with housework. After Liu was
killed in battle by local warlord forces, his body was left as a warning. Despite threats of
execution, Feng’s great-grandmother Han secretly retrieved his body at night and buried him
behind their house using her own prepared coffin. The warlords later arrested and tortured (折磨) Han, who died three months after her release, but not before leaving final instructions: “The Red Army fought for the poor. Our family must guard Commander Liu’s tomb for generations. ”
This solemn duty was passed down through the generations. Feng’s maternal grandfather adopted a son who never left Changpingshan. On his deathbed in 2002, he told his son-in-law Ma Quanmin to continue guarding the grave, “in poverty or prosperity. ” Ma gave up his construction work in Guangzhou to return home, supporting his family through farming while keeping the
family promise.
In 2011, local authorities built a martyr cemetery around Commander Liu’s tomb, now
holding 1,080 revolutionary martyrs (烈士). Ma voluntarily took on responsibility for the entire
cemetery. Though Feng once dreamed of city life, she returned after just six months in Guangzhou when she saw her father struggling with cemetery duties. She became a local teacher and
volunteers as cemetery guide, planting daisies for visitors to honor the martyrs. Her husband
respected her choice, and they married before the cemetery in 2020.
During Qingming Festival and Martyrs’ Day, Feng tells local students stories about the Red Army. “These stories teach children to cherish today’s hard-won happiness,” she said.
4 .What can we learn about Commander Liu from the first two paragraphs?

The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, is an important festival in China when
people offer sacrifices to their ancestors. In ancient times, the festival prompted poets to compose about their grief regarding the lingering cold in spring and emotional moments while mourning the deceased. 16
The Mourning Day(清明)
The Mourning Day, written by famed Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu, is one of the most well-known poems relating to the Qingming Festival. It reads:
A drizzling rainfalls like tears on the Mourning Day; The mourner’s heart is going to break on his way.
Where can a wine shop be found to drown his sad hours? A cowherd points to a cot mid apricot flowers.
17 The first couplet employs pathetic fallacy (移情手法), merging the drizzle with tears to amplify the solitary mourner’s grief. The last line then ingeniously shifts toward a glimmer of hope, as the distant apricot blossom cot symbolizes a warm refuge (慰藉).
Silk-Washing Stream(浣溪沙)
Spring sheds a mild and wild light on Cold Food Day; Jade burner spreads the dying incense like a spray.
Walking, I find my hairpin under pillow stray. The swallows not yet come, a game of grass we play;
Willow down wafts while mume blossoms fade away. In drizzling rain at dusk the garden swing won’t sway.
Silk — Washing Stream is a poem by Song Dynasty poet Li Qingzhao, one of the leading female poets ofthe time.
This poem vividly captures the unique atmosphere of the Cold Food Festival, where
traditions like eating cold food and playing with grass create a quiet, detached mood (淡然的心境) 18 The final image of the motionless swing in the drizzle perfectly mirrors the
stillness of a world pausing to observe this ancient custom.
Wind Through Pines(风入松)
Tune: Wind Through Pines is a masterpiece of Song Dynasty poet Wu Wenying.
19 Here is an excerpt:
Hearing the wind and rain while mourning for the dead, Sadly I draft an elegy (挽歌) on flowers.
Over dark green lane hang willow twigs like thread, We parted before the bowers.
Each twig revealing our tender feeling. I drown my grief in wine in chilly spring;
Drowsy, I wake again when orioles (黄莺) sing.
The poet uses wind, rain, and willow twigs to express his deep sadness, moving from mourning flowers in general to his own personal pain of saying goodbye. He wakes up from drinking, still feeling heavy-hearted, but then sees a peaceful cottage through the mist.
20
A.These poets’ sentiment of despondency (惆怅) and grief amid their profound verses as follows.
B.The poet indicated the festival’s stable portrayals in a grandiose style (豪放风格) and an ornate style (婉约风格).
C .Between the lines lies the author’s grief over the rainy spring and parting with beloved ones.
D.Here are some famous lines from poems in the Tang and Song Dynasties remembering the day.
E .This quatrain captures the intrinsic melancholy of Qingming and its solace with masterful subtlety.
F .This quiet image brings a small sense of comfort, as if he/she has found a place to rest his/her
troubled soul.
G .The bard subtly reflects the festival’s shift from quietness to melancholy through fading and still-silent imagery.

第二节(满分 25 分)
47 .阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段英文,使之构成一篇的短文。 My cousin Alex and I had rented a small boat to explore the legendary blue hole. It was
Qingming Festival, a day for honoring ancestors, and we had just visited our grandfather’s grave in the coastal hills. The afternoon sun spilled across the sea, turning the water into a beautiful
green that danced with every gentle wave. Alex was totally in his zone, excitedly messing with his camera and filming everything. I leaned over the side, letting my fingers trail through the cool,
clear water, watching tiny fish swim away from my shadow. “The wind tends to pick up around
here in the afternoon,” the boatman had muttered as he dropped us off, his weathered face looking worried. But we’d already forgotten his warning, too caught up in the adventure and the incredible view around us.
The first sign of trouble came as we headed back to shore. The sky, which had been so nice, started changing fast. Soft white clouds turned into a dark, heavy grey that spread across the
horizon way quicker than we expected. The wind suddenly picked up, howling across the water and turning the calm surface into choppy waves that pushed our little boat off course. I quickly
pulled my hand from the water — it had turned cold against my skin. Alex put down his camera, his excited face now looking nervous as he gripped the sides of our boat. Right then, I thought of our grandfather — he used to fish in these exact waters.
Before we could even figure out what to do, a huge wave lifted our boat and smashed us against a sharp rock sticking out of the water. The impact was terrifying — a horrible cracking sound of
fiberglass hitting stone that seemed to shake everything around us. I heard Alex yell my name just as I lost my grip. Everything spun, and then I was underwater, surrounded by bubbles and
darkness. As I sank, I thought I saw someone in the depths — maybe just my imagination, or
maybe something else. Paragraph 1: Saltwater burned my nose and throat as I fought my way back up.
