Jaden Anthony, a boy from Brooklyn, New York, was born with a disease called diabetes (糖
尿病 ), a condition that often leaves him feeling thirsty. Deeply aware of the importance of clean
water, he became concerned when he learned of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
In 2014, the city began using water that contained dangerous levels of lead (铅 ), which is
harmful to all, especially children. Even small amounts could cause diseases and affect learning
abilities. Therefore, Jaden wanted to do something to help the kids in Flint.
Being a comic book fan, Jaden decided to create his own to raise awareness about clean water
and donate funds. “Kid Brooklyn,” he explained in an interview, “aims to make both kids and adults
recognize global dangers.”
In the first book of a series, the main character Kid Brooklyn and his friends are given an
unusual Sun Stone that helps them develop super powers. They use those powers to keep the planet
clean and safe. Jaden works with illustrators to bring the characters and stories to life. Jaden was
twelve years old when his first book was published in October 2017. A dollar from every book
Jaden sells is donated to Green for All, an organization to bring clean, fresh water to the families in
Flint.
Future issues of the comic will promote different environmental causes. Jaden wants to
encourage children all over the world to become scientists and engineers who can fix the problems

Pumpkins are popular symbols of autumn: When pumpkin spice lattes appear, we know
summer is ending. After enjoying pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, we soon prepare for winter
holidays. In between, jack-o’-lanterns become the stars of Halloween. These seasonal vegetables
also make us think of simpler times and the charm of small family farms. As one historian notes,
“People are buying these things because of these very old-fashioned ideas.”
The word “pumpkin” has an interesting journey. It didn't always refer to a specific plant, but
more to a shape of squash. While the word itself has European roots, the plant’s true home is the
Americas. Thousands of years ago, native people in Mexico began farming different types of squash
that looked like what we now call pumpkins. When European settlers arrived, they found pumpkins
a useful food source, easy to grow and store.
However, the word “pumpkin” also has a surprising past. Not long after it first appeared in
English in the 1600s, it became a way to insult people. For women, it was often used to suggest
they were driven by natural desires rather than wisdom. For men, it meant they were empty-headed,
a term even used for politicians for centuries. By the late 1600s, calling someone a “pumpkin”
meant they were conceited or stupid.
Fortunately, by the late 19th century, the meaning of “pumpkin” began to change. It became a
sweet term of affection for children. As more Americans moved from farms to cities, pumpkins also
became an influential symbol of traditional country life, connecting people to an idealized past.
Today, this cultural history continues to grow. Small farmers use pumpkins to create inviting
“agrarian wonderlands” that draw visitors, helping to develop the very small family farms they

The rapid spread of artificial intelligence has people wondering: who's most likely to use AI in
their daily lives Many think it's the tech-savvy – those who understand how AI works – who are
most eager to adopt it.
Surprisingly, a new research, published in the Journal of Marketing, finds the opposite. People
with less knowledge about AI are actually more open to using the technology. We call this
difference in adoption the "lower literacy-higher receptivity" link (低识字率—高接受度). This link
exists across different groups, backgrounds and even countries. For instance, our analysis (分析) of
data from market research company Ipsos across 27 countries shows that people in nations with
lower average AI literacy are more receptive towards AI adoption than those in nations with higher
literacy.
The reason behind this link lies in how AI now performs tasks we once thought only humans
could do. When AI creates a piece of art, writes a heartfelt response or plays a musical instrument, it
can feel almost amazing — like it's crossing into human land. Of course, AI doesn't actually have
human qualities. A chatbot might create an empathetic (共情的 ) response, but it doesn't feel
empathy (共鸣 ). People with more technical knowledge about AI understand this, making the
technology less mysterious. On the other hand, those with less understanding may see AI as magical.
We suggest this sense of magic makes them more open to using AI tools.
The lower literacy-higher receptivity link is strongest for using AI tools in areas where people
are more likely to ask for emotional support or consulting. When it comes to tasks that don't need
human-like qualities, such as analyzing test results, the pattern changes. To make the most of AI,
businesses, educators and policymakers need to make this balance. And ideally, this will happen
with respect that inspires many people to use this new technology.
