Li Min, a top finance (金融 ) student who graduated from Peking University, made an
unusual career choice that surpassed expectations. Instead of seeking a finance career, she
exchanged her business suit for the clothing of a farmer and went back to her hometown.
Her decision was met with doubt, especially from her family who questioned why she would
leave the promise of a high-paid career for the uncertainties of farming. In fact, Li Min desired to
make agricultural practices modern as she saw the backwardness of traditional farming during the
visits to her hometown.
Upon returning to her village, Li Min also encountered disbelief from classmates and
villagers alike. However, her promise to combine modern technology and new practices with
agriculture soon proved transformative, allowing farmers to monitor crop growth through field
sensors and smartphones, and make data-based decisions to improve productions and quality.
She started with on-site sales of fruits and vegetables. Recognizing the instability (不稳定性)
in the supply chain and the need for a more dependable system, Li Min developed the “Lai Cun
Wang” rural (乡村的) e-business platform in 2015 to increase sales.
By 2023, Li Min’s efforts had reached more areas, establishing over 200 rural service stations
and creating jobs for thousands of families. Her contribution to rural development and poverty
fighting earned her several awards, including the Henan Innovation Award.
Li Min’s story is a powerful reminder that professional success is defined by the strong love
for work and devotion one brings to it. Her journey from a finance scholar to an agricultural leader
shows how her efforts can bring change, inspire communities and contribute to sustainable
development in agriculture. It encourages more students to seek their dreams with strong belief.
3
24. What made Li Min choose to return to her hometown after graduation
A. Her determination to make a difference to it.
B. Her unsuccessful job-hunting experiences.
C. A sudden change in her financial conditions.
D. Pressure from her family to continue farming.
25. How did Li Min solve the problem in the supply chain
A. Through government funds. B. Through mass production.
C. Through experienced farmers. D. Through Internet technology.
26. Which of the following can best describe Li Min
A. Generous but hesitant. B. Big-headed and energetic.
C. Far-sighted and creative. D. Traditional but independent.
27. What can we learn from the text
A. Passion counts in our professions.
B. Success comes from full preparations.
C. Taking others’ advice is key for job choices.
D. Career achievements depend on family support.
C
Frightening as monsters (怪 兽 ) are, they have always attracted us. From strange
combinations of animals to magical beings, creatures have emerged from our imaginations
throughout history. Today, they still frequent our cinema screens. Considering how scared we can
be of monsters, it seems paradoxical that we keep making them. In fact, there is science behind
our love of monsters.
Monsters are imaginary creatures that come from our long history of living with predators
(捕食者 ). Snakes, for example, were among our ancestors’ (祖先 ) first deadly threats, causing
them to develop snake-responsive neurons in their brains. This adaptation allowed them to
recognize snakes with just a quick look. That is why we get a thrill seeing snake-like monsters on
the screen.
Similarly, our ancestors’ minds were shaped by the need to spot bears, lions and other larger
predators in tough environments. With their long teeth and giant claws, these animals have seized
our imaginations, appearing in cave paintings over thousands of years, and then on modern
screens.
There are psychological benefits to being frightened by monsters. Scary stories with
terrifying creatures activate the amygdala, the brain’s fear center, which releases adrenaline (肾上
腺素 ). With the story ending in safety, adrenaline levels drop, bringing chemicals that fuel the
feeling of relaxation. Such controlled fear experience might help us to manage long-term stress or
increase our pain tolerance. As a result, some people with anxiety enjoy watching horror films
before bed.
The monsters we create today for films and books reflect our deepest fears — whether it’s
Godzilla threatening civilization, or aliens growing within us. By understanding our monsters and
why we make them, we can learn a great deal about what is going on under the surface of our
minds.
28. Which word can replace the underlined word “paradoxical” in paragraph 1
A. Unnecessary. B. Frightening. C. Predictable. D. Unreasonable.
4
29. What is the purpose of paragraphs 2 and 3
A. To show the origin of monsters. B. To compare different deadly creatures.
C. To honour the wisdom of our ancestors. D. To introduce dangerous animals on screens.
30. How does watching a horror film benefit people with anxiety
A. It helps people to fight against fear.
B. It helps people forget anxious experiences.
C. It helps people feel relaxed with its safe ending.
D. It helps people learn how to escape from dangers.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards our love of monsters
A. Critical. B. Uncertain. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
D
If the Amazon forest is to disappear, Altamira in Brazil is the town where that end could be
foreseen. During the region’s development, a road was cut through the heart of the forest, marking
an era of widespread destruction that remade the Amazon. Altamira thus became known in local
media as the “champion of deforestation.”
Now Brazilian officials think this expansive town can also be the site of the forest’s rebirth.
This year, the government set out to test a question that until now has largely been left to
researchers: If left alone, can the Amazon forest restore itself To test this assumption, officials
closed off a degraded parcel of land and leased (租赁 ) it to a private carbon credit company to
safeguard and restore. “Some of the tasks will be done by planting trees. But most of the
restoration job will be left to Mother Nature. It’s called passive restoration. This is opening a new
model that may be applied across the state,” said Governor Barbalho.
The search for solutions in the Amazon couldn’t be more urgent. Rates of deforestation have
been dropping since the government made fighting environmental crime a priority, but the
destruction hasn’t stopped. Nearly 6,300 square kilometers were lost last year, bringing the
ecosystem closer to what scientists warn is a tipping point, when the Amazon is no longer able to
maintain its own rainy ecosystem. Evidence of its arrival is springing up: dried riverbeds, forest
fires, punishing droughts, and increased tree death. Scientists have predicted the forest could
experience a broad ecological collapse by 2050, when 10 — 47% of it will be exposed to various
disturbances that could activate unexpected ecosystem changes.
But other research has also provided cause for hope. Despite the delicate nature of the
Amazon’s ecosystem, the forest has also demonstrated a remarkable capacity for recovery. A
recent study showed that roughly 72,000 square kilometers of destroyed forest are already in an
advanced stage of natural recovery.
32. What do we know about Altamira from paragraph 1
A. It reshaped the Amazon area. B. It saw the rebirth of the forest.
C. It benefited from the new road. D. It headed the forest destruction.
33. What is the core belief behind passive restoration
A. Nature knows the right way. B. Companies make better guardians.
C. Tree-planting is a quicker fix. D. A hands-off government is the key.
34. What makes it critical to restore the Amazon rainforest
A. Deforestation rates are ever-rising. B. The rainy ecosystem has collapsed.
C. A point of no return is approaching. D. Spring has brought lots of disasters.

35. What is the best title for the text
A. Can Private Companies Help B. Can Passive Restoration Last
C. Can Altamira Stop Deforestation D. Can Amazon Avoid Disappearing
第二节(共 5小题:每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余
选项。
A robot is chatting to an elderly British man in his bedroom. 36 . Perhaps because
of the man’s age, the robot starts asking him about his memories of the Second World War. The
elderly man goes on to tell how his father was in the army, and he hasn’t seen him for years.
37 . The behavior is the product of the Caresses project which aims to design robots
that can take into account the cultural background of the person they’re talking to. The man is
British, so the robot thinks he will be interested in such a topic, regardless of the man’s personal
feelings.
Cultural robotics is part of a wider movement to make robotics more culturally inclusive.
38 For example, because the Internet is mainly in English, large language models are
primarily trained on English text — with the cultural biases (偏见) existing. Similarly, the move
to make robots more culturally sensitive means well, but people are worried about where it could
lead, considering the diverse cultural preferences across different social groups.
Humans from different cultures react differently to robots. For example, different cultures
have different expectations around personal space, and this affects how far they prefer robots to
stand from them. 39 People are more able to understand a robot if it uses the facial
expressions they are familiar with.
Culture is a complex concept, open to various explanations. 40 . To avoid designing
robots based on stereotypes (刻板印象), we will need to be more thoughtful.
A. It has a pleasantly bright voice.
B. Does this topic really hold a person’s interest
C. However, concerns about this have been raised.
D. This practice is widely recognized across cultures.
E. Therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach is impractical.
F. Why does a robot mention a topic that may cause pain
G. Different cultures interpret facial expressions differently too.

第二节(满分 25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Another A+, and I’ll get you that mountain bike you’ve been eyeing,” my dad said, patting
my shoulder with a warm smile. It was the perfect push I needed. I was always a diligent English
learner, but with this reward in sight, I was more motivated than ever to achieve another A+ in my
upcoming English exam. Every night, I buried myself in vocabulary lists, memorizing new words
and reviewing grammar rules repeatedly. My confidence grew and soared as I finished more and
more practice papers.
When the exam day came, I felt fully prepared. I took a deep breath before stepping into the
classroom, trying to stay calm. Yet, my strong competitive spirit made me overly anxious, and I
hesitated over every question. Halfway through the exam, I blanked out on the spelling of a key
word and got stuck on grammar problems. As time slipped away quickly, I even hesitated on the
reading comprehension questions that I was usually good at. With no time left, I had to write down
random answers and hand in the paper, crossing my fingers.
The next day, I got my paper back. A big red “A-” stared at me from the top. “No mountain
bike,” I thought, feeling down. It wasn’t a terrible grade, but it fell short of my goal. Disappointed,
I stared back at the mark, wishing it could magically become an“A+”. I could almost hear my dad’
s proud voice praising my hard work. The thought lingered until I did something I’d never
imagined — I changed the “-” into a “+”.
As soon as I got home, I handed the paper to my dad with a fake smile. He beamed with pride,
hugged me tightly and said he’d known I’d make it. Minutes later, he came out with a shiny new
mountain bike.“I bought it yesterday, sure my hardworking kid would nail the exam,” he said,
handing it to me and told me to try riding it right away. I hesitated for a moment and made an
excuse, saying I would try it another day.
注意:(1) 续写词数应为 150 左右;(2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: Later that night, I tossed and turned in bed, lost in reflection.
Paragraph 2: Having made up my mind, I knocked on my dad’s door and poured out everything.
