The last kind of friend, the best friend, is the one you know the deepest. You’re like family, and know everything about each other. You have no problem staying at each other’s houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct you when you’re wrong. Are you an “I” person or an “E” person People often talk about it online. The ideas come from a popular personality test called MBTI. It tests the personality in four ways. Each way uses a letter to show the meaning. For example, the letter “I” means you are shy and the letter “E” means you are outgoing. After the test each person will get a four-letter result to show the personality. In all, there are sixteen kinds of personalities in the test.

“People want to learn about themselves and others,” Guo Yongyuan, an expert said. “When they know themselves and others better, they can learn to be with others. That helps them feel more relaxed.”
Gao Yanyi, a middle school student from Shanxi, thinks that the MBTI test can help her find friends with similar MBTI results to her quickly. “But that should not be the only way to find friends. Sometimes it could make me lose possible good friends with different kinds of MBTI,” she adds.
Ma Ruina, from Beijing No.4 Middle School, took the test once. It made him feel like it’s limiting (限制) how people can be, as if there were only 16 kinds of people in the world. “Everyone is unique, and it’s not right to put people into simple groups.”

It’s late autumn in the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋). Ice starts to grow on the water’s top. This makes it hard for white whales to find open places to come up for air. “They have to come up to breathe (呼吸) air,” says Donna Hauser, a scientist who studies the sea.
The white whales know it’s time to leave for warmer waters. So a group of about 100 white whales swims south to the Bering Sea (白令海). The Bering Sea is between the United States and Russia.
When they are halfway on their journey, the white whales find themselves swimming between two large ice pieces. Suddenly, they meet a large dangerous sea animal—an orca (虎鲸). Luckily, orcas are not better at swimming through ice pieces than white whales. So the white whales can swim faster and get away.
The white whales are safe for now. “But before they get to their destination—the warm Bering Sea, they must go through the Bering Strait (白令海峡). It connects (连接) the Arctic Ocean and the Bering Sea. They need to get there before this waterway turns into ice,” Hauser says.
At last, the white whales get to the Bering Strait, and it hasn’t become ice yet. After swimming for a few more days, they arrive at the Bering Sea. The white whales will rest, look for food and play here until April. Then they will swim back north.

Giraffes are my favourite animals in the world. I love them because they are special and beautiful.
Giraffes are truly amazing animals. They live on the grasslands (草原) of Africa. They have long and strong legs. An adult (成年的) giraffe can grow to be about 4.5 to 6 meters tall. Even a baby giraffe is around 1.8 meters tall! Their long legs help them run very fast—up to 50 kilometers an hour—when they need to escape from danger. An adult giraffe’s neck is also long, about 2 to 2.4 meters. With such long necks, they can easily reach and eat leaves from tall trees. Every day, an adult giraffe can eat as much as 30 kilograms of leaves!
Besides being special, giraffes are really beautiful. Their bodies are covered with lovely brown spots (斑点). Mother giraffes have big, dark spots, while (然而) baby giraffes have small, light ones. The most interesting thing is that no two giraffes have the same spots! When they walk slowly on Africa’s grasslands, they look so beautiful, just like dancing in the wind.
What’s more, giraffes are usually quiet and kind animals. Some of them live in groups like a big family, and they help each other. Every time I watch giraffes eat or walk around in the zoo, I feel so happy and relaxed. Giraffes are such special animals that they make our world a more wonderful place to live in.

In early September, a debate about pre-prepared food (预制菜) started in China. Luo Yonghao, a well-known businessman, posted on social media Weibo that he felt “uncomfortable” after dining at Xibei, a famous restaurant brand in China. He said almost all dishes there were pre-prepared but overpriced, and called on the government to make laws forcing restaurants to tell people clearly if they use such food.
Xibei quickly fought back. Its founder Jia Guolong said none of Xibei’s dishes were pre-prepared and later opened its kitchens to the public to show that its dishes were fresh. This event pushed pre-prepared food into the spotlight and caused wide discussion.
On the positive side, pre-prepared food saves time for both restaurants and customers. Restaurants can make more dishes in less time with pre-prepared ingredients (食材), which makes the waiting time for customers shorter. For busy people at home, pre-prepared food also makes cooking easier—they just need to reheat it before eating. Besides, pre-prepared food can cut food waste. Factories that make it usually control ingredient amounts strictly, so fewer ingredients are thrown away.
However, pre-prepared food has its problems. Many people worry about its taste. Reheating may make the food less delicious, and some nutrients (营养) might be lost during processing. There are also worries about food safety. If the pre-prepared food is not stored or transported properly, it could go bad and harm people’s health. What’s more, some restaurants use pre-prepared food but don’t tell customers, which takes away people’s right to choose.
Now, more and more people hope there will be clearer standards (标准) for pre-prepared food, so that everyone can make informed choices.

B.It is terrible and people had better not eat it.

60.Why do people worry about the pre-prepared food
A.It is always too expensive to afford.
B.It may lose nutrients during reheating and processing.
C.It makes the waiting time for customers longer.

When I was young, after church on Sundays, we would always have a delicious Italian dinner at my grandmother’s house. My grandmother’s slow-cooked sauce was the key. After mum and grandmother passed away, my dad would still make the sauce from time to time and invite me and my brother over to his little house for a dinner full of fine food and happy memories.
When my dad died, he passed the family recipe on to me and my daughter. We often made the sauce for dinner, but for some reason it never tasted quite right. At first, I thought we had gotten the recipe wrong, but one day I realized what was missing. On that day, right before dinner, I closed my eyes and imagined my dad, mum and grandmother all sitting at the table around me. New Year, New Me
Hi, I’m your friend Candy. As the year draws to a close, it is the perfect time to think about the changes we want to make in the coming new year. We can improve our lives by learning something new, forming good habits, working harder at something, or even improving our relationships with others. I hope to make next year better than this one, so I am going to make three resolutions.
The first one is about taking up a new hobby. I am going to join the school music club to improve my singing! I think singing is a great activity. And my friends and family all love my singing.
I am also going to get fitter. Besides jogging (慢跑锻炼), I am going to do push-ups and sit-ups. I feel energetic (充满活力) after I exercise. I’m sure I’m going to be a healthier and happier person. Last but not least, my English isn’t good enough, so I am going to study for two more hours each weekend. It might be hard, but I am going to get a lot better at English!
