At first, they stood near the top of the thirty-metre-high Second Step, and Liu Lianman tried four times to climb it but failed because the thin air took his strength away.

③ They made every effort together despite the difficult conditions.
6.Did they succeed in the end
Yes, they did. They reached the top of Mount Qomolangma at 4:20 am on 25 May 1960. They were the first Chinese to climb the mountain and the first people to climb the difficult North Ridge without using oxygen.
