A blind Chinese climber reached the summit (顶点) of Qomolangma, known in the West as Mount Everest, on Monday morning, becoming the first blind person from Asia ever to conquer the world’s highest summit.
Zhang Hong, 46, reached the top from the Nepali side, along with three high-altitude guides.
Zhang, who was born in Chongqing, lost his sight at the age of 21. He now works at Fukang Hospital Affiliated with Tibet University in Lhasa. As Zhang began his climb of Qomolangma, which is 8,848.86 meters above sea level, his colleagues in Lhasa were excited to hear the news of his success.
“Many people may have doubted his attempt of climbing at first, but I was confident in him from the beginning,” said Kyila, the secretary of the Fukang Angel Foundation, who also is a blind person. “I knew before that he could make it, and he did make it. I am really happy for him. He is a model for blind people to encourage them to chase their dreams.”
Zhang’s passion for climbing was inspired by Lotse, a famous Tibetan climber who conquered all the world’s 14 summits above the altitude of 8,000 meters. Lotse had shared the story of the blind US mountaineer Erik Weihenmayer, who climbed Qomolangma in May 2001. Zhang was touched by the story, which ignited his dream of climbing.
As an amateur climber for years, Zhang had conquered three mountains above the altitude of 6,000 meters before climbing the world’s highest summit. He had begun preparing for the Qomolangma climb in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), all mountaineering teams on Qomolangma were canceled in Nepal and China last year, and he had to wait until recently to finally make the attempt.
24. What can we infer from what Kyila said
A. He had been inspired by Lotse.
B. He had much belief in Zhang’s success.
C. Zhang’s colleagues doubted his motivation.
D. Zhang centered on climbing in his spare time.

A. Lighted. B. Accomplished. C. Followed. D. Recalled.
26. Why did Zhang Hong fail to climb Qomolangma in 2020
A. He was too weak. B. He wasn’t well prepared.
C. A pandemic broke out. D. Extreme weather occurred.
27. What’s the best title for the text
A. Zhang Hong Sets an Example to Others
B. A Blind Climber Reaches Qomolangma Summit

We’re all familiar with the feeling — it usually starts with a little itch (痒) deep inside the nose. Next comes the awareness that it’s going to happen. Then, achoo! Air erupts out of our nose at an astonishing 100 miles per hour, bursting out whatever was causing the itch. The high-pressure from a sneeze (喷嚏) has led some people to think that if we didn’t close our eyes, they could pop out.
For decades, countless people have tested the theory. Upon finding it almost impossible to keep their eyes open while sneezing, many have concluded that the theory must be true. If you try it yourself, the chances are that your eyes are still where they belong. That’s because they are held firmly by the muscles in the eyes. Furthermore, increased pressure from sneezing actually builds up in the blood vessels (血管), which may cause vessels to break but is less likely to cause the eyeballs to pop out.
Why did this theory start, anyway Some say that it all began in 1882, when the New York Times reported an incident of a woman who burst one of her eyeballs during a sudden sneeze. Others point at the fact that different high-pressure experiences, such as childbirth, can cause blood vessels in the eyes to pop. Still others say that closing our eyes when we sneeze shows the theory is true. Scientists, on the other hand, explain that we close our eyes for the same reason we sneeze — to prevent unwanted things from entering our bodies. Either way, as far as we know, there are no actual recorded cases of anyone losing an eyeball because of a sneeze, so don’t lose any sleep over it!
28. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 1
A. The cause of a sneeze.
B. The danger of sneezing.
C. The importance of a sneeze.
D. The experience of sneezing.
29. Why won’t eyeballs pop out while people are sneezing
A. Because they are fixed firmly in the eyes.
B. Because high pressure builds up in the eyes.
C. Because they are held strongly by blood vessels.
D. Because increased pressure prevents them from popping out.
30. What can we infer from the text
A. Sneezes usually cause an itchy nose.
B. People sneeze to burst out unwanted things.
C. The high pressure caused by a sneeze will be released through breathing.
D. People close their eyes when sneezing to stop their eyeballs from popping out.
31. Where is the text most likely from
A. A research paper. B. A biology textbook.
C. A guidebook. D. A magazine.
D
Titania Jordan, working at Bark Technologies, knows that parents today face a tough challenge: raising kids in a world filled with technology. That’s why she’s devoted to helping them navigate the digital landscape. “Parents need to be aware of what their children are exposed to online,” she stresses. “It’s not just about monitoring; it’s about understanding and leading them through this new world.”
Jordan and her team work on developing tools that allow parents to protect their children from the dangers of the Internet. “We help parents filter out things like cyberbullying, inappropriate contents, and even potential attackers,” she explains. The platform sends warnings to parents when it detects something concerning, giving them the power to take action.
Jordan believes that education is key. “We need to educate parents about the risks and how to talk to their kids about them,” she says. She often holds classes and talks, explaining why it’s important to talk openly and set good limits on how much technology we use.
One of the biggest problems Jordan addresses is the fear of missing out that children experience when they see their friends posting about fun events which they’re not part of. “It’s crucial for parents to help their children understand that social media often shows the best parts, not reality,” she says. “We need to teach them to appreciate real-life experiences rather than comparing themselves to others online.”
Jordan also stresses the importance of setting a good example. “Parents should model healthy tech habits,” she advises. “If parents are always on their phones, their kids will follow suit. But if parents show balance, it sends a strong message about the role of technology in our lives.”
“Despite the challenges,” Jordan adds, “technology is here to stay, and we just need to ensure it’s used in a way that enriches our children’s lives, not harms them.”
32. What does Jordan suggest parents do when their children use the Internet
A. Offer instruction. B. Turn a blind eye.
C. Monitor everything. D. Cut Internet access.
33. What does the underlined phrase “filter out” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Add. B. Remove. C. Keep. D. Mix.
34. How are parents advised to deal with their children’s fear of missing out
A. By asking them to post fun events.
B. By showing them social media’s best parts.
C. By setting a good example in communicating with teachers.
D. By telling them to value reality over online comparisons.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Internet Developments and Threats
B. A Parent’s Guide in Kids’ Digital World
C. Social Media and Mental Health in Teens
D. The Impact of Technology on Child Development

任务型阅读 (共两节,满分20分)
Four years ago, if you had told me that my weekends would be spent hiking through forests and up mountains, I would have laughed. My life centered on a fixed cycle: work, socialize indoors, sleep and repeat. The closest I got to nature was the view of the garden from my living room window. But all that changed when I came across hiking, quite by accident.
It started with an invitation from a friend — to join a hiking group for a day out. Hesitant (犹豫的), but curious, I agreed. The first hike was hard. I was out of breath and my muscles ached, but as I reached the trail’s (路线的) end, something within me changed.
The beautiful view of nature, the sense of achievement — it was nothing short of amazing. So I decided to hike more, and in doing so, I noticed some changes. My body grew stronger, my stamina (耐力) improved, and those once-hard trails became easier. And my mind grew more relaxed. The stress of city life melted away with each step. The endorphin (内啡肽) rush, the “hiker’s high”, became my new addiction (嗜好).
I also discovered a community of hikers. Each hike was an opportunity to meet new people, share stories and form friendships. These weren’t just people to hike with; they were fellow adventurers sharing the journey of life. What’s more, we do all this without having to connect to an electronic device (电子设备).
A few days ago, when I was preparing for another hiking adventure, my neighbor came out and greeted me. Like the old me, he always stayed at home, seemingly uninterested in the outside world. To my surprise, he smiled and said, “You’re so active recently. I wish I could be like you.”
第一节:根据文本内容从方框中选择恰当的词并用其正确形式填入文本图示中,每词限用一次,有两词为多余选项。
