Not long ago, a rock band called the Backstreet Boys made a big splash on the music scene. Young people everywhere loved their songs. One of the band’s biggest fans was a young boy named Aaron Carter. Aaron had a special reason for taking such an interest in the band. Nick Carter, one of the Backstreet Boys, was Aaron’s big brother.
Even before Nick joined the band in 1996, Aaron loved music. From the age of two, Aaron spent most of his time listening to the radio. He sang along with his favorite songs. Aaron got off to a fast start. At the age of seven, he joined a band in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. But after two years, Aaron didn’t want to be part of a band anymore. He wanted to sing alone. Soon, Brother Nick gave Aaron a helping hand. During a Backstreet Boys show in Germany, Aaron sang a song. He did an amazing job! After the show, someone from a record company asked Aaron to make an album. Of course, Aaron said yes!
Since that day, Aaron has made lots of songs that sell well. His songs include “Crush on You” and “I’m Gonna Miss You Forever”.

What is language for Some people seem to think it’s for practicing grammar rules and learning lists of words — the longer the lists, the better. That’s wrong. Language is for the exchange (交流) of ideas and information. It’s meaningless knowing all about a language if you can’t use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can’t speak correctly or fluently. They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too. Bernard once wrote, “Foreigners often speak English too correctly.” But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They’re English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right. People not only make history, they also make language. But a people can only make its own language. It can’t make another people’s language. So Chinese students of English should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldn’t overdo (做过头) it. They should put communication first.
12.Language is used to ________.
A.practice grammar rules B.express oneself
C.talk with foreigners only D.learn lists of words
13.Generally, when an American or an Englishman speaks English, he ________.
A.can’t avoid making mistakes B.often makes mistakes
C.never makes mistakes D.always makes mistakes
14.If too many native speakers break a rule, ________.
A.they will become heroes B.they are against the law
C.they should say sorry to others D.what they use will become right
15.When we speak a foreign language, we should ________.
A.speak in Chinese way B.speak by the rules
C.speak to native speakers D.not be afraid of making mistakes
Rules on how to be a fit kid
Being fit is a way of saying a person; a person eats well, gets a lot of physical exercise, and has a healthy weight. 16 . If you’re a kid who wants to be fit, here are three rules to live by.
● Eat a variety of foods.
You may have a favorite food, but the best choice is to eat a variety. 17 . Taste new foods and old ones you haven’t tried for a while. Some foods, such as green vegetables, are more pleasing the older you get. Shoot for at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day — two fruits and three vegetables.
● 18
What does it feel like to be full When you’re eating, notice how your body feels and when your stomach feels comfortably full. Sometimes, people eat too much because they don’t notice when they need to stop eating. 19 . And over a period of time, overeating can lead to unhealthy weight gain.
● Limit screen time
What’s screen time It’s the amount of time you spend watching TV or DVD5, playing video games, and using the computer. The more time you spend on these sittingdown activities, the less time available for active stuff, like basketball, bike riding and swimming. 20
These rules aren’t magic. However, follow them most of the time and you can become a fit kid sooner or later.
A.Drink water and milk.
B.Try to spend no more than 2 hours a day on screen time.
C.Eating too much can make you feel uncomfortable.
D.If you eat different foods, you’re more likely to get the nutrients your body needs.
E.Listen to your body.
F.Ask your parents to help you do your favorite activities regularly.
G.There’re a lot of discussions these days about fit kids.

Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways 36 (improve) our English writing ability.
Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes 37 (little) time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English. If we persist (坚持) in this practice, gradually we’ll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English, we certainly run up against many 38 (difficult). In the first place, it often happens that we have trouble 39 (find) appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind. Secondly, there 40 (be) many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is extremely hard for us to put them into English 41 (proper).
As far as I am 42 (concern), my suggestion is 43 we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We can also ask our English teacher 44 help, if necessary. In short, I believe that it is of great use to keep a diary in English for 45 development of our writing skills.

Once upon a time, there lived a poor but cheerful shoemaker. He was so happy that he sang all day long. The children loved to stand around his window to listen to him.
Next door to the shoemaker lived a rich man. He used to sit up all night to count his gold. In the morning, he went to bed, but he could not sleep because of the sound of the shoemaker’s singing. One day, he thought of a way to stop the singing. He wrote a letter to the shoemaker inviting him over for a cup of tea.
The shoemaker came at once, and to his great surprise, the rich man gave him a bag of gold as a gift. The shoemaker took the bag and thanked the rich man. When he returned home, the shoemaker couldn’t wait to open the bag. He had never seen so much gold in his life! He sat down at his bench and began, carefully, to count it. The children watched through the window.
There was so much there that the shoemaker was afraid to let it out of his sight. So he took it to bed with him. But he could not sleep for worrying about it. So he got out of bed and went to hide it in the attic (阁楼), but he was not sure if that was a good place.
Very early in the morning, he got up and brought his gold down from the attic. He had decided to hide it up the chimney (烟囱) instead. But after breakfast, he thought it would be safer in the chicken house. So he hid it there. But he was still uneasy, and in a little while he dug a hole in the garden and buried his bag of gold in it.

47.范文
He was in no mood for singing and found it difficult to focus on his work. He was too worried about the safety of his gold. When he was working, he couldn’t help running in and out again and again to see if his gold was all right. And he kept removing the bag from one place to another to keep it safe. What’s worse, he lay awake all night because he was always trying to count the gold. Worst of all, the children no longer came to see him.
At last the shoemaker felt so unhappy that he took his bag of gold and ran next door to the rich man. He handed the bag of gold to the rich man the moment he opened the door. “Please take back your gold,” he said. “The worry of it is making me upset all day and night, and I have lost all of my friends. I would rather be a poor shoemaker as I was before.” The rich man was amazed. Before he could say a word, the shoemaker had left. From then on, the shoemaker was happy again and sang all day long at his work.
