China has successfully got back the stolen and lost Western Zhou bronze vessel(青铜器) known as Feng Xing Shu Gui from the US.
The bronze vessel was discovered in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province in 1978, but was stolen in November 1984 and disappeared. On January 28, 2024, it safely arrived in Beijing, which marked the end of its journey abroad and its return to its homeland. The collector of the artwork, Raymond Kim and his mother, returned it to the Chinese government without any conditions after learning its background.
Some experts examined it carefully and compared it with historical photographs. They were sure that it was the original(真迹的) Feng Xing Shu Gui and it was listed as a first-class cultural relic(文物).
In 2009, the governments of China and the US signed a memorandum of understanding(谅解备忘录) to prevent the illegal(非法的)entry of Chinese cultural relics into the US. Since then, many American people, like Raymond Kim and his mother, have played a great role in the return of lost Chinese cultural relics.
Zhang Jianmin, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, presented Raymond Kim and his mother a donation certificate(证书) and said that the event not only improves China-US friendship, but serves as a positive model for the world to work together in the protection of cultural relics.
