At a resort(度假胜地) on the outskirts of Urumqi, capital of Northwest China'sXinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 19-year-old ski coach Huoran Tanaidong often has little time to rest between day and night skiing sessions. On busy days, he rushes into the lodge(小屋), grabs a quick plate of noodles, and checks his phone for reminders, with extra time spent filming students on the slopes.
One afternoon, he guided a girl from Harbin down the challenging 36-degree AsianAvenue slope, a symbol of honor among experienced skiers. Despite initial hesitation, she skied down safely with his encouragement. Huoran adjusted his distance to ease her nerves, helping her carve clear turns until she got the perfect shot.
Filming has become part of Huoran's job. He records nearly every student, and a growing number of clients hire him for videos shared on social media. This season, he has taught over 500 students, sometimes five or six a day on busy weekends.
Huoran started snowboarding at six and worked at a ski resort at 15. Self-taught at first,he later joined his school's skiing team, training before dawn and after dark. As skiing took off in China, Xinjiang turned into a top winter destination with expanded resorts. Huoran then realized skiing could be more than a hobby and pursued it as a career.
Supported by local authorities and his village, Huoran took professional training, passed exams, and got his ski instructor certification.“Hard work meant being under the sun and wind all day; often alone,” Huoran says, reflecting on his journey from hard labor to coach.“Now I'm doing what I truly love.”
On his social media account, Huoran shares skiing tips, behind-the-scenes filming experiences, and the snowy landscapes of his hometown. He hopes not only to teach more people to ski, but also to help others like him discover new career paths on the slopes. Nearby villagers have opened guesthouses and restaurants, as well as strawberry-picking gardens that stay open late for skiers. Tourism, once busy only in summer, now grows rapidly year-round.
24. What do we know about Huoran's present job
A. He teaches skiing without any professional certification.
B. He only teaches basic skiing techniques in his spare time.
C. He combines ski teaching with video filming for students.
D. He works full-time as a social media influencer.
25. Why did Huoran keep a proper distance when guiding the girl from Harbin
A. To avoid being filmed in her video. B. To help her stay calm and confident.
C. To teach her to ski independently. D. To protect himself from danger.
26. What contributed greatly to Huoran's turning his skiing hobby into a career
A. The popularity of local tourism.
B. His professional training in filming.
C. His early experience of working on a farm.
D. Support from local authorities and his village.
27. Which of the following can best describe Huoran
A. Hard-working and ambitious. B. Caring and outgoing.
C. Independent and devoted. D. Generous and humorous.
C.
What does it take to become the best at something According to recent research published in Science, the answer may not lie in early excellence or lifelong highly focused dedication. Instead, the path to exceptional skill might be more winding.
The study found that individuals who showed the greatest promise in a discipline during childhood rarely went on to reach the peak of their field as adults. These findings blow up the famous“10,000-hour rule”, the idea that deliberate(刻意地) practice for 10,000 hours leads to mastery. That rule was based on a 1993 study of violin students who had accumulated(积累) 10,000 hours of practice by age 20,
yet they were not world-class performers.
“Compared with national-class performers, world-class performers often started their
discipline
later.” psychologist. Brooke Macnamara explains. They tend to engage in multiple activities early
on and don't shine in one particular area at a young age.“They accumulate less practice in their
discipline and more in others, then rise to the top relatively late,” she says.
This pattern doesn't follow deliberate practice theory. However, researchers emphasize.this
doesn't
mean practice and effort are unnecessary. Instead, it shows that top adult performers tend to be
late developers. In sports, for instance, world-class athletes peak later than national-class athletes.
Those who peak early reach a level that is best for their age, but not as high as what the other group
will eventually achieve.
The findings are noteworthy, says psychologist Edson Filho. He notes that athletes in certain sports like
gymnastics hit peak performance far earlier. He adds that this analysis doesn't address other factors such as
money and coaching that influence who becomes the cream of the crop.
The research emphasizes that people change. Children can get burned out or lose interest. To become an expert, you need to consistently perform at a high level under the most challenging conditions, and that's a long journey.
28. What does the underlined phrase“blow up” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Support. B. Confirm. C. Challenge. D. Introduce.
29. What are the characteristics of most world-class performers
A. They achieved top performance relatively late.
B. They started their field at an early age.
C. They focused on only one activity early on.
D. They accumulated more practice in their field young.
30. What do researchers stress about deliberate practice
A. It is of no use for late developers.
B. It is not the only factor for success.
D. It should be replaced by a new learning theory.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Early Excellence: A Ticket to Success
B. Deliberate Practice: The Key to Mastery
C. Multiple Activities: The Secret of Talent
D. Late Developers: The Road to Excellence
D
A person visiting an eye doctor for an annual exam sits in front of a desk-top machine equipped with a bright red headset and eyepiece. The patient is told to hold still while one eye is briefly scanned by an infrared light-based method that can image the retina(视网膜) with a matchless level of detail, obtaining high-resolution images within seconds.
This painless scanning technique, known as optical coherence tomography (OCT), is used millions of times per year in the US to identify eye diseases. But research suggests it may be used to detect early brain
changes caused by Alzheimer's disease, even years before symptoms appear.
Such an application is possible because the retina is part of the central nervous system and shares many of the same cells and structures of the brain. Numerous studies have found that many of Alzheimer's indicators are visible in the eyes of people who have died with the disease. The features of Alzheimer's can be detected long before cognitive(认知) symptoms appear.
Alzheimer's disease begins slowly, with changes in the brain that can occur years, if not decades, before symptoms appear. 50 stop it in its tracks, we need early detection—— ideally before the brain's architecture is damaged. This insight has brought new urgency to the search for reliable biomarkers.
In recent years, researchers have made progress in developing blood and spinal fluid (脊髓液) tests that indicate the presence of Alzheimer's features. For example, amyloid PETimaging, the current gold standard, uses radioactive tracers to detect harmful proteins in the brain, but it is costly and technically demanding.
As promising as new blood tests are, detecting Alzheimer's in millions of at-risk ndividuals requires tools that are not only accurate but also affordable and scalable. OCT may meet these needs. As a widely available and widely applicable method of early detection, OCT could be practical for population screening in many parts of the world, including North America, Europe, Japan, China, and South Korea.
32. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph
A. By describing a common scene. B. By presenting research findings.
C. By explaining a medical term. D. By comparing different techniques.
33. What makes OCT a potential tool for detecting Alzheimer's disease
A. It can create images of the brain directly.
B. It helps discover eye problems at an early age.
C. It reveals brain-related changes in the retina.
D. It tracks the progression of cognitive decline.
34. What is the disadvantage of amyloid PET imaging
A. It cannot find early signs of Alzheimer's.
B. It is expensive and difficult to operate.
C. It produces inaccurate results easily.
D. It relies on too many blood samples.
35. What is the author's attitude toward OCT's future application
A. Neutral. B. Unclear. C. Critical. D. Optimistic

Trust is a powerful emotion that builds relationships and connections. It is a key part of good relationships and friendships, yet it doesn't come easily to everyone. 36 But real trust is far less concrete than that. Our ability to trust is influenced by our experiences, our past and our personality.
Trust is at the heart of our daily life: We show trust in people in almost every small situation. When you take a taxi, you trust the driver to keep you safe. When you turn to a doctor, you trust them to care for your health. 37
Once broken, trust can be hard to restore. 38 If you have been hurt by people you trusted, you may find it hard to believe in others again. Everything we have heard, seen and experienced in our life feeds into our ability to trust people now. A friend who tells your secrets, a boss who breaks a promise—— all these things can change the way we trust. 39 Some people can let go of past pain, while others carry it into new relationships. Our personality plays an important role.
40 Start by setting your own boundaries and values. Focus on what you believe in and stay true to yourself. If your distrust comes from serious past hurt, turning to professional help is also a wise choice. With time and efforts, we can find a balance between trusting others and protecting ourselves.
A. It is more than just a simple feeling.
B. It can also influence how we trust in the future.
C. Trust is a bond that runs through all our connections.
D. Luckily, you can manage to develop a healthy level of trust.
E. Cultural and societal influences shape our ability to trust deeply.
F. The dictionary explains it as a firm belief in someone's reliability.
G. But how much past experiences affect us varies from person to person.

Our son, Matthew, and his wife Sunny had recently had a baby—— Azriel Jadyn—— inGermany, where he was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base. And we had not seen him for almost a year. He desperately wanted us to come for a visit.
I am by nature a homebody and very unwilling to fly. The thought of flying alone on such a long journey was terrifying, as my husband Len was unable to get away due to work. Finally, I gave in and made my travel plans.
About two weeks before I was due to leave, Len and I had the opportunity to visit our daughter Anne at Indiana University. Anne, our only daughter, was the last bird to leave the nest. It seemed like only yesterday that I was tucking(盖被子) her into bed with her favorite teddy bear Kiki. When she left home for college, she packed her best companion Kiki along with her.
Now she was a lovely young woman, off on her own. We had a great parents' weekend———— cheering at the football game, eating at nice restaurants, and laughing together. We met her new friends and saw how much she enjoyed her new life.
Anne is very perceptive(有洞察力的) and knew the journey to Germany was weighing heavily on my mind. Not only am I a nervous flyer, but being away from Len and home for two weeks would be a first for me.
After the weekend, it was time to drive back home. Anne handed me a gift bag and told me not to open it until she texted me in the car. After about half an hour, her text finally came:
Tuck me in your arms so tight
While you travel through the night
Across that great blue sea
To visit AJ, Matt and Sunny.
Please take me to the ones I dearly miss
And bring me back a hug and kiss:
So I'm yours to borrow
To keep you from sorrow
As you travel alone, so brave
To make the memories you will save.
Open!

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I reached into the gift bag with trembling ( 颤抖的) hands and pulled out the gift.
Kiki became my constant companion all the way to Liermany.

One possible version:
Dear Alex,
I'm more than glad to receive your letter asking about the environmental improvements in my hometown. I'd like to share some great changes with you.
My hometown was once troubled by severe air pollution from factories and heavy traffic, leading to frequent smog and rare blue skies. Fortunately, effective measures have been taken to solve the problem. Polluting factories have been closed or relocated. Meanwhile, the government has been promoting sustainable lifestyles, the use of clean energy, and eco-friendly production practices. Thanks to the joint efforts, the air quality has improved greatly, allowing us to enjoy fresh air again.
I sincerely hope you can come and see these great changes in person.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节读后续写(满分25分)
One possible version:
I reached into the gift bag with trembling hands and pulled out the gift. It was Kiki, the teddy bear that had been Anne's closest friend since childhood. Its soft fur was a little faded, and there was a small patch on its paw, all the little marks that made it unique and dear. I pressed it to my chest, and warm tears rolled down my cheeks. Anne's sweet poem and this thoughtful gift had touched my heart deeply, chasing away all the worry and fear that had clouded my mind for weeks.I quickly sent her a photo of me holding Kiki, typing that it was the best gift I'd ever received.
Kiki became my constant companion all the way to Germany. I clutched it tightly during the long flight, its soft body being a comfort through the bumpy parts and the lonely hours of the night. When I finally met baby AJ,I placed Kiki gently beside the little one, a little piece of Anne with us halfway across the world. During my stay, Kiki sat with me at the dining table, watched. AJ play and giggle, and lay by my pillow each night. On the flight back, in my arms was still Kiki, a precious reminder of the love that makes every lonely journey feel safe and bridges all the distance between us.
