1. beauty / bju ti/ n. 美；美丽
常用短语：natural beauty (自然美)，the beauty of nature (自然之美)
形容词形式：beautiful (美丽的)
The beauty of the West Lake attracts many tourists.
She is a woman of great beauty. (她是一位大美女)

答案：beauty。解析：定冠词the后接名词形式。
2. fantastic /f n t st k/ adj. 极好的；美妙的
同义词：wonderful, great, excellent

常用结构：
prefer A to B (喜欢A胜过B)

He prefers to walk rather than take the bus.

注意：scenery是总称，不可数；view指从某处看到的景色，可数；scene指场景，可数。

2. can't stop doing sth. 忍不住做某事

3. run after 追赶；追逐
The dog is running after the cat.
He ran after the bus but didn't catch it.
4. on the way to 在去……的路上
I met an old friend on the way to school.
注意：to后面接地点名词；如果后面是home, there, here等副词，则省略to。
On the way home, I bought some fruit.
5. in the end = finally = at last 最后；终于
In the end, they found the lost child.
6. a couple of 几个；一对
I have a couple of questions to ask.
They stayed there for a couple of days.
7. be/get ready for 为……做好准备
We are ready for the final exam.
Get ready for the trip!
8. hear from = receive a letter from 收到……的来信
I heard from my penfriend yesterday.
