Topic: What are the best internet radio stations for Chinese pop music (C-Pop)
Rhys 27 July
Answers (6)
If you do not read Chinese characters, your best choice is M Radio. All track and artist names are available in either English or pinyin. That way when you hear something you like, you’ll know what it is. The M Radio website has artist news, reviews and music videos, but no ads. Except for songs in putonghua, a small number of the songs are in Cantonese. If it’s good and on the C-Pop charts (排行榜), they’ll play it.
Also, I recently stumbled on (偶然遇见) P820. The music is a little out-dated (过时的), but there are no ads.
Another Chinese station I listen to is FYM987. This one has some ads and talk shows; however, the music is pretty much what’s the latest in the C-Pop industry. You can download its app on your phone.

Halli lived alone on Iceland’s rocky coast. He raised sheep, caught fish, and collected seabird eggs. His small house, made of earth and wood, kept him safe from the strong winds blowing from the North Sea. Sometimes the town’s fish buyer would ask him about the old kings and lands under the sea.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, a storm blew as he walked along the shore, his boots stepping on frozen stones. Near a cave beaten by the waves, he heard it—music louder than before, plus the soft sound of dancing feet. Walking into the water, which filled his boots, he looked behind a rock and saw the Sea People: beautiful, in dresses the color of seaweed, dancing with claps like seals, singing like whales and the wind. He stood still, watching their lovely movements as they put strings of pearls in their hair and drew shining shapes in the air with their webbed fingers. After school every day, she worked hard on her machine. But on competition night, disaster struck. When Edith turned the handle, the music played slowly and the lights only flickered (闪烁). A nearby laugh made her face burn—she felt like a failure. Jenny Rocket comforted her, “All great inventors face mistakes. Don’t give up. ”
Just as judging was ending, the hall went dark. The lights broke, and the competition was going to be canceled. All the kids sighed with disappointment. Suddenly, Edith spotted Jenny’s bike with a glowing helmet. An idea sparked: she connected the bike to her music box and started pedaling fast.
The machine roared (咆哮) to life! Bright lights filled the hall, and cheerful music played. Everyone cheered and danced. Orpheus was an extraordinary person who played the lyre (a small harp) like no one else. His music was so beautiful that birds would gather to listen, and even the wind seemed to pause. He fell deeply in love with Eurydice, a classmate who adored (爱慕) his songs. They spent happy afternoons together, with Orpheus playing melodies just for her.
Tragedy struck when Eurydice was bitten by a poisonous snake in the woods near their school. Orpheus was heartbroken. He stopped playing music entirely. His lyre grew dusty, and his days felt empty without her. He knew he had to try to bring her back, so he decided to go to the Underworld (the land of the dead) with his lyre.
When Orpheus reached the Underworld, he played his most heartfelt song for Hades, the ruler. Hades was moved by the music’s power and agreed to let Eurydice follow him back. “But you must not look back at her until you both see sunlight,” Hades warned. “If you do, she will stay here forever.”
Orpheus nodded and led Eurydice toward the exit. He walked carefully, fighting the urge to check if she was there. As soon as he saw daylight ahead, he couldn’t wait—he glanced back. Donal was the cheeriest boy in his Irish village. Wherever he went, he hummed lively tunes and made everyone smile. He loved village dances most—he knew all the jigs and always led others to the dance floor. But Donal had a secret sorrow: he dreamed of playing the violin, but it was too expensive for him to buy.
One moonlit night after a dance, Donal heard soft violin music from the forest. Curious, he followed it and found a glade where elves danced clumsily to an elf’s playing. Donal laughed out loud, making the elves angry. The Fairy Queen appeared and asked why he laughed. “Your music is lovely, but their dancing is odd,” he said politely.
“Then teach us your dances,” the queen said. Donal taught them jigs and reels patiently. The elves had great fun, and the queen was grateful. “Take this,” she said, handing him the violin. Donal thanked her and practiced every spare moment, even though he played poorly at first.
A grumpy man named Conal heard Donal play and learned that the violin came from fairies. He rushed to the forest, taught the elves dances roughly, and demanded gold instead of a violin. The queen gave him a bag of “treasure”. But when Conal showed it off the next day, the gold turned to pebbles! Donal played his violin happily, and Conal stormed away. I skated to the center of the ice, pushed my toe pick into the surface, and struck my starting pose—hands on my hips, looking up at the old hockey banners hanging above. This time, my smile was real. A strong, sure feeling filled my chest. It wasn’t about my friends cheering, my dad whistling (one joking about my “sparkly dress”), or last year’s judges who didn’t like my Annie song. I was focused on skating my best—and landing my axel jump, the one that would decide if my Olympic dream could come true.
“You can do it, Harper!” my friend Caleb shouted. As my music grew louder (even from the shaky sound system), I began my steps and spins—clean, fast, and steady—keeping the audience watching closely. Then came my biggest challenge: the axel, a jump I’d only landed perfectly 14 times in all my years of practice.
Suddenly, I felt dizzy; I tripped, my skate scraping the ice, and the crowd went quiet. I could feel everyone watching me, but I listened to the beat of the music. I did a simple waltz jump to get back into rhythm, got ready, and then—with my dad’s “Focus!” echoing in my mind—I leaped into the air, spun, and landed as solid as stone.
Perfection—for now. More challenges awaited, but today, music and resolve carried me. As I bowed, the head judge signaled me over.
Task 1:Answer the questions.

37.What was the most important jump for her dream

Music is an important part of our lives. It can bring people together and express emotions that words sometimes can’t. Different people have different preferences when it comes to music. Some like pop music because it’s catchy and easy to sing along with. Others prefer classical music for its elegance and depth.
In a school, students from different backgrounds share their love for music. Tom, who is from a family of musicians, has been learning to play the piano since he was five. He thinks classical music is like a beautiful story that unfolds with every note. Lily, on the other hand, loves pop music. She often listens to it when she’s doing her homework because it makes her feel energetic.
Music also plays a role in cultural communication. For example, folk music can tell the stories of a particular culture. When students from different countries exchange music, they are also sharing their cultures. At a school music festival, students from various countries perform their traditional music. This not only shows their unique cultures but also helps students understand and respect each other better.
However, there are some challenges in the world of music. Some people think that modern music lacks the depth of traditional music. Others worry that with the development of digital music, the value of real musical instruments and live performances is being lost. But despite these challenges, music continues to be a powerful form of expression and connection.

49.What does Lily like to do while listening to pop music
50.How does folk music contribute to cultural communication

Thousands of years ago, Tegumai and his daughter Taffy lived in a cave. One day, they went fishing by the river, but Tegumai’s spear (矛) broke. Taffy wanted to get her father’s spare spear from home but was too young to go alone. “If we could send a message...” she sighed, since no one knew how to write.
Just then, a stranger from another tribe passed by. Taffy got an idea: she drew a picture on the birch bark (白桦树皮), showing the cave, the broken spear, and the spare one. She handed it to the stranger, hoping he would give it to her mom. The stranger didn’t understand her words but nodded and left.
When Taffy’s mom saw the picture, she panicked (恐慌). The messy drawing looked like the stranger was attacking Tegumai with spears! She called the tribe, who grabbed the stranger and marched to the river to take revenge (复仇). They were shocked to find Tegumai fixing his spear and Taffy playing safely.

Saying “sorry” is a powerful part of communication. Sometimes we hurt others by accident—maybe we ignore their words or act thoughtlessly. Admitting our mistakes and apologizing can fix misunderstandings, but finding the right words isn’t always easy. It takes courage to say we’re wrong! There are many heartfelt ways to apologize. You can write a sincere note, give a small meaningful gift, or simply speak from your heart. Phrases like “I’m sorry if I upset you” or “Thank you for listening—I didn’t mean to be rude” show you care. A genuine apology isn’t just words; it’s showing you understand how the other person feels.
Why is apologizing so important for good communication It helps heal hurt feelings and strengthens relationships. When we say sorry honestly, we tell others we value them more than being “right”. Even if it’s hard to speak up, apologizing makes both people feel better in the end. It’s a key skill for getting along with friends and family.
Last week, Mia argued with her best friend Lila because she wasn’t listening during their chat. Lila felt sad and stopped talking to her. After thinking for a day, Mia decided to apologize. In the late 1990s, I met Katherine, a smart five-year-old deaf student with long shiny brown hair and bright dark eyes. Her old teacher thought she wouldn’t do well in school, but I found she was strong-minded and very clever. Though good at many subjects, writing was our hardest task—she would completely stop trying whenever she saw pencils.
The big change happened by accident one day when Katherine forgot her backpack on the bus. Not able to use sign language with the office workers, she slowly wrote “PAC BAK” on some paper. That small act showed her how useful writing could be and changed how she felt about it completely.
After that day, Katherine started to love writing. She grew into a wonderful writer, good public speaker, and class leader. She was named Douglas County Rodeo Queen and competed as Miss Deaf Colorado before going to the University of Northern Colorado, where she plans to become a teacher.
Katherine’s story shows how one important moment can open up a person’s hidden abilities. Her experience still gives hope to my deaf students today.

He lives in a homeless shelter in Minnesota. At a party in March, he and other kids played games and ate cakes. They also opened gifts. “It was very fun,” he said.

High above the city stood the Happy Prince’s statue (雕像), covered in gold leaves, with sapphire eyes and a ruby on his sword. He was admired by all, but once night fell, he wept at the misery (苦难) he saw below. A little swallow, on its way to Egypt, decided to rest at his feet.
The Prince begged the swallow to help a poor woman whose sick son cried for oranges. Though eager to leave for warm Egypt, the swallow took the ruby from the Prince’s sword to the woman. Feeling warm after the good deed, he stayed. Next, he gave one of the Prince’s sapphire eyes to a hungry young writer, then the other to a freezing match girl.

He refused to leave the Prince, who had become dull and grey without his gold. Finally, the swallow died at the Prince’s feet, and the Prince’s leaden heart broke in two.

The sun went down over the ocean slowly, and the waves seemed to swallow it whole. Cadence shaded her eyes from the bright light and lifted her beach bag over her shoulder—until a soft “Help me!” rang out along the shore.
She shouted back, but only the wide, empty beach and moving waves answered. The faint voice led her to run to Rocky Cove, her bare feet hitting the wet sand. She bent under a mossy rock ledge and caught her breath: a girl in a dress made of seaweed (decorated with pearls and shells) was sitting on a rocky island, her silver hair messy, her eyes the deepest blue.
“I’m Cadence. Are you okay ” The girl, named Sorcha, said she was stuck—she had lost her home. “Maybe I can help,” Cadence said, her throat stinging from the salty sea spray.
Sorcha told her about a magical underwater kingdom (where merpeople lived) that had been lost in a wild storm. For weeks, they searched the shore for clues, facing challenges and meeting ocean animals. Led by Sorcha’s strong inner feeling, they discovered an old cave that was a hidden door.
