Europe is one of the world’s most varied continents in terms of culture, history and geographical diversity. The following are some natural wonders in Europe that can take your breath away.
Norway: Svalbard
Svalbard represents one of the farthest regions of the world, as well as one of
the most northernmost inhabited landmasses on earth. This region lies close to the
Arctic Circle and most of the region is covered with glaciers, making it largely an
untouched area. Svalbard is famous for its wildlife like polar bears, and was used as a whaling base in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Croatia: Plitvice Lakes National Park
Made up of 16 beautiful lakes, the Plitvice Lakes National Park is a standout

attraction in Croatia. It is well-known for its lakes, waterfalls and caves. The
particular geographical position of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and its climate features have contributed to the appearance of many natural phenomena and rich
biodiversity within the area.
Ireland: Cliffs (悬崖) of Moher
Located on Ireland’s coast, the amazing Cliffs of Moher are a sight to look at — the cliffs rise about 120 metres above the water and run for about 14 kilometres. With seawater continuously hitting the cliffs and heavy winds greeting you along the edge, this landscape represents the force of nature in its purest form.
Switzerland: Swiss Alps
The Swiss Alps are one of the world’s largest mountain ranges and cover about 60% of Switzerland’s surface area. The mountains were formed millions of years ago and have some of the highest peaks in Europe. Today, nature-lovers come in droves to the Swiss Alps for hiking, skiing, cycling and swimming.

Susan Mubanga grew up in Zambia, a country in Africa, where she often gazed at the night sky with wonder. Yet she noticed that very few people in her community had ever looked through a telescope. For most, the stars and planets remained a
试卷第 4 页,共 13 页
distant mystery. Susan believed that although the sky belongs to everyone, the chance to explore it does not. This inequality troubled her and sparked an idea.
In 2014, Susan and her partner, Ms. Mwabisa, started a project called the
Traveling Telescope. They used 3D modeling to design small, portable telescopes that could be easily carried to schools and villages. With the help of local volunteers, they visited underserved communities, bringing the wonders ofthe universe directly to
children who had never looked through a telescope. The children’s excitement —
seeing Saturn’s rings or the craters ofthe Moon for the first time — encouraged Susan to continue.
Susan’s experience as a volunteer had taught her how to connect with people
and share knowledge in simple, inspiring ways. She believed that astronomy should
not be limited to scientists. Through the Traveling Telescope, she hoped to spark
curiosity and open up the universe to every child, no matter where they lived. Today, the project continues to grow, reaching more schools and communities. It has become a symbol of hope, showing that with creativity and passion, we can help young people dream beyond the skies.
4 .What inspired Susan Mubanga to start the Traveling Telescope
A .She wanted to become a famous scientist.
B .She found that few people in her community could explore the sky.
C .She received a telescope as a gift from her partner.
D .She wanted to travel around the world with her telescope.
5 .What did Susan and her partner do for the Traveling Telescope
A .They built a space center in Africa.
B .They wrote books about astronomy for children.
C .They made portable telescopes and brought them to schools and villages.
D .They trained local teachers to become astronauts.
6 .What does the underlined word “underserved” in Paragraph 2 most likely mean
A .Having no interest in science. B .Lacking enough resources or services.
C .Being far away from cities. D .Having too many schools.
试卷第 5 页,共 13 页
7 .What is the main idea of the passage
A .A project that brings astronomy to more children.

Silk has been used to heal wounds for 1,800 years. Today, this old tradition is helping scientists make new medical implants (植入物) from the same material.
Doctors like silk for many reasons. First, silk is a natural material that breaks
down in the body slowly over time. So any implanted parts made of silk don’t need to be taken out with surgery. Second, few people are allergic to silk.
The materials used to make silk parts are proteins called silk fibroin. They are
usually dissolved (溶解) in water until needed. But like all proteins, these proteins can break down over time. Also, storing silk materials with water adds a lot of weight and makes them expensive to move from place to place.
David Kaplan from Tufts University and his team found a way to solve these
problems. First, they put silk proteins into salt water. Next, they added liquid nitrogen (液氮) to the mixture. Then, they put the icy mix into a low-pressure place. The low temperature and pressure made the water disappear. Finally, they turned the
freeze-dried material into a powder (粉末).
Powdered silk can help make strong medical implants, like tools used to hold broken bones together. This is a big breakthrough in medicine. Being biocompatible (生物相容的) is just the icing on the cake.
Powdered silk can also carry drugs (like cancer drugs) into the implants. The
implants can slowly release drugs over time, so patients don’t need to take pills or get painful injections. Powdered silk is also easy to use. It stays stable (稳定的) for up to two years on the shelf. Plus, it’s light because most of the water is gone. So it doesn’t cost much to ship.
试卷第 6 页,共 13 页
8 .Why do doctors like using silk for medical use
A .It lasts for a very long time. B .It is cheap to produce.
C .It comes in many forms. D .It has good natural properties for medicine.
9 .What is the function of liquid nitrogen in David’s research
A .To keep the pressure low. B .To make the temperature low.
C .To mix silk proteins with water. D .To take water out of the mixture.
10 .What does “the icing on the cake” mean in Paragraph 5
A .Another good thing. B .A small problem.
C .A sweet food. D .A popular trend.
11 .What is the main idea of the passage
A .A new method to process silk for medical use.
B .The history of silk in medical applications.
C .The problems of traditional silk materials.
D .How to make medical implants from silk.

In the face of AI, we should learn to coexist with it. Since cognitive (认知的), cooperative and emotional work can generally be done by humans, we should use it to our advantage, rather than feel left out. 12
Change your attitude
First and foremost, be ready for AI development that will impact your career,
and adapt to this rapidly changing environment. This is important because you don’t know what changes will happen. 13 The roads and models of cars may
change, but you’ll have the basic confidence and discipline to drive once you know it.
14 Tech evolution is an ongoing process. Today, it’s ChatGPT, and tomorrow it will be something else. You can’t be self-satisfied or take your job for

granted any longer as a career is no longer fixed and unchangeable.
Use new tech
As soon as any new tech comes in, start using it. 15 Develop a healthy enjoyment of technology instead of complaining. Integrate it into your day-to-day
work schedule and improve your productivity by using it as a tool just as you did with Google Search 20 years ago.
Upskill and reskill
If your post (职位) is likely to become redundant (多余的), upskill at the
earliest in a way that you can either monitor or handle the AI tool. You can either
acquire new skills in your area of industry or upskill to use the best AI models for
your role. 16 For example, if you know the industry is moving from A to B, jump ship to learn B while working on A because you never know when you may
need to change your career track.
A .It’s like learning to drive.
B .Then what should we do now
C .But what challenges has AI brought to us
D .There is a lot of information about AI on social media.
E .The more you use it, the better you will be able to adapt to it.

One day after school, my younger brother Alan called out to me, “David! Come here quickly! I have something to show you!” To my surprise, he had brought home an injured bird. I was immediately attracted by its bright blue feathers. For some
reason, I named the bird “Robin” in my mind, and I readily agreed with my brother’s choice.
Alan told me that Robin had fallen from a tree, hitting the ground and hurting its wings. A group of kids surrounded the injured bird, unsure of what to do. Alan
quickly stepped in and brought it home. Robin was scared and nervous, and I could feel its trembling body as I held it in my hands. We took it to the vet, where it got timely treatment.
Following the doctor’s instructions, we took great care of Robin. Gradually, it became calm and started to sense our kindness.
Since we didn’t have a birdcage, I decided to make one myself. I was fairly
good at art, so I found a cardboard box, cut out four windows, and used wooden sticks as bars. Once it was done, I carefully placed Robin inside its new shelter. It took him two days to get used to his new surroundings.
Our dog, Max, had always been a sweetheart, but he became increasingly
excited. He would circle the box and sometimes bark at it in a playful way. I realized he wasn’t trying to scare Robin; instead, he seemed interested in his new feathered
friend and eager to play with him in his own way.
About two months later, Robin made a full recovery. To provide Robin with a

After some discussions, Alan and I decided to set Robin free. We chose a sunny morning, taking the birdcage to the big oak tree where Alan first found Robin. As we approached the spot, memories of rescuing Robin flooded back, making the moment even more meaningful. I gently
opened the cage door, my heart a little sad but happy for it. Alan stroked Robin’s blue feathers

bright blue feathers shining in the sun, as if showing off its newfound freedom. Max wagged his tail and barked gently, as if saying goodbye, and we could see the connection between all living beings at that moment. Alan and I waved our hands, watching it fly farther and farther until it
disappeared into the forest. Though we felt a bit empty, we knew we did the right thing — nature
