Lin Mo is an obscure film darkroom printer who runs a cramped, sunless studio tucked
away from the bustling urban commercial district, a solitary figure clinging to a fading niche craft in the digital age. As digital imaging technology and AI-powered retouching tools have
monopolized the global photographic industry, manual analog film developing has become a nearly obsolete skill, abandoned by most young practitioners in pursuit of fast efficiency.
In his sparse spare time, he never browses trendy photography blogs or viral short videos, but immerses himself in professional periodicals like Traditional Photographic Conservation
Quarterly and authoritative academic reports issued by the International Archive Imaging
Research Institute. These rigorous research documents conclude that chemically processed film
prints possess unparalleled tonal layers and physical preservation stability, with a service life 30 times longer than ordinary digital printed works, a conclusion that has long solidified his stubborn adherence to pure traditional techniques.
One drizzly afternoon, a young documentary photographer brought several rolls of
field-shot rural film to him. After carefully appreciating the finished prints, the young man spoke earnestly: “Your meticulous manual craftsmanship endows photos with irreplaceable human
warmth, yet proper digital tone calibration can retain that warmth while restoring subtle, obscured details in the shadow areas.”
At first, Lin Mo rejected the proposal disdainfully, deeming any digital integration a
betrayal of traditional craftsmanship integrity. But after repeated cautious trials, he was stunned by the perfect blend of soft film grain and vivid, complete details.
This sudden epiphany made him completely abandon his long-held rigid mindset. He
finally comprehended that genuine craft inheritance is never blind conservatism or total rejection

of novelty. Instead, it means holding fast to the core sincerity of manual creation while embracing moderate, rational innovation. It is this delicate balance that endows ancient traditional crafts with lasting vitality amid the rapid progress of the times.
24 .Why does Lin Mo stick to manual film developing at first
A .To cater to young practitioners’ needs. B .To preserve traditional craft’s authenticity.
C .To pursue fast work efficiency. D .To gain popularity in the industry.
25 .What does the young photographer mean by his words
A .Digital tools will replace film craft entirely.
B .Manual work fails to restore photo details.
C .Film prints lack warmth compared with digital ones.
D .Moderate digital adjustment can complement traditional film work.
26 .In paragraph 5, the word “epiphany” is closest in meaning to .
A .a sudden and powerful realization B .a gradual and careful plan
C .a deep sense of regret D .a brief moment of doubt
27 .How can Lin Mo be best described
A .Persistent and open-minded. B .Stubborn and reckless.
C .Rigid and indifferent. D .Ambitious and humorous.

Can music help you concentrate at work Researchers from the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff conducted a new study, and it has some interesting results.
The research examined the ability of 25 people, aged 18 to 30, to remember information while listening to various sounds. In one task they had to remember a list of eight consonant (辅音) letters, which were dictated to them.
Participants in the study were tested under three different conditions: in a quiet
environment, while listening to music they liked, and while listening to music they didn’t like. The participants generally did better when they were working in silence. The background music
seemed to make memorization and recall more difficult. However, scientists also found that listening to music before doing the tests seemed to help concentration.
“Despite describing their self-selected music as more pleasant, their performance was poor,
just as it was when they listened to music they disliked,” explained one of the researchers. So, even if you’re listening to music you like, it’ll still interfere with your work.
This would appear to contradict the findings of scientists who have researched what is
popularly known as the “Mozart Effect”. This concept was invented by French scientist Dr. Alfred A. Tomatitis in 1991. Tomatitis published a book, Why Mozart , which described what he
believed were the healing powers of listening to Mozart’s music.
He also suggested that Mozart’s music could aid brain development. Later studies indicated it might enhance children’s spatial intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could boost a child’s IQ. The governor of the state of Georgia even once advocated allocating over $100,000 annually to supply classical CDs to every newborn in the state.
Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music could help with
concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that lyrics are distracting.
So, if you’re studying for an exam, turn off your music!
28 .Under which condition did participants perform best in the University of Wales study
A .Prior exposure to music. B .Listening to disliked music.
C .Working in silence. D .Listening to favorite music.
29 .What is suggested about the impact of the “Mozart Effect”
A .It has led to some real-world practices.
B .It has been proven to enhance adult intelligence.
C .It mainly promotes the enjoyment of classical music.
D .It originates from governmental educational policies.
30 .What is paragraph 7 mainly about
A .Lyrics distract more than tunes. B .Instrumental music aids concentration.
C .Students’ music tastes vary widely. D .Quiet is often preferred for study.
31 .What can be inferred about background music
A .It best aids creative work.
B .Its effects are inconsistent across studies.
C .It improves performance in concentration tasks.
D .It affects people differently based on preference.

Global climate labs have heavily invested in trillion-parameter AI models, aiming to refine long-term climate projections and extreme weather warnings by analyzing massive historical data (temperature profiles, ocean currents, and atmospheric humidity gradients). Traditional wisdom assumes larger models guarantee higher accuracy, but recent research from the World Climate
Research Programme (WCRP) challenges this assumption, focusing on how model scale impacts real-world prediction reliability.
The study sampled 12 leading climate AI projects, comparing regional-scale models (e.g., European medium-range forecast systems) with global-scale giants (e.g., CMIP6 series models) across 10-year trend fitting and extreme event prediction. It measured how each system interprets the chaotic nature of Earth’s climate system, a critical variable often overlooked in oversized
models trained on raw data rather than physical constraints.
Findings reveal a stark trade-off: hyper-scaled models outperform smaller ones in
short-term (1–3 months) warnings, with tropical cyclone path prediction errors reduced by 22%,
but they struggle with long-term (6–12 months) projections. Overfitting becomes rampant, as large models mistake historical climate anomalies (e.g., extreme heatwaves, heavy droughts) for fixed
trends, widening prediction biases by 34% compared to physics-constrained small models, which maintain 18% higher accuracy in regional anomaly detection at 1/5 the computational cost.
Beyond precision issues, over-reliance on large AI models creates a skills gap in climate research. Young researchers trained on automated tools often lose the ability to manually adjust key parameters (e.g., boundary layer settings, cloud droplet concentrations), weakening their
capacity to fine-tune models for regional needs. Policymakers, meanwhile, are misled by large models’ “global optimality” claims, ignoring local climate disparities and undermining the
effectiveness of adaptation plans.
The WCRP study concludes that climate AI progress hinges on balance, not scale. Future models should adopt a hybrid architecture: small models capture regional climate nuances, while large models handle global trends — both anchored to Earth’s physical constraints. True
predictive power lies not in bigger data, but in smarter integration of global and regional realities.
32 .What do traditional researchers assume of hyper-scaled AI vs small models
A .Cut costs with precise long-term forecasts.
B .Outperform small models in all forecasts.
C .Fail long-term trends via data overfitting.
D .Stick to physical laws not raw data.
33 .What does the 2026 WCRP study find about the two AI models
A .Lower long-term error margins by 34%.
B .Mix random shifts with fixed climate trends.
C .Boost short-term warning accuracy by 22%.
D .Produce more false climate signals overall.
34 .What harm comes from over-reliance on large AI models
A .Reduce global climate research funding greatly.
B .Weaken researchers’manual parameter skills.
C .Mislead policymakers on local climate gaps.
D .Stop automated data analysis tool development.
35 .Which is the best title for the text
A .Balance scale and bigger AI models fully
B .Balance trends with small physics-based models
C .Balance model scale and physical constraints
D .Balance big data and climate AI applications

People favor humor, as it lights up daily moments, eases awkwardness and makes every
interaction warm and enjoyable. This magic of humor doesn’t just work in daily life; it also shines in the field of science, especially online. 36
Firstly, humor simplifies tough scientific knowledge. 37 For example, explaining AI in self-driving cars with a funny analogy about “machines learning like clumsy toddlers”
makes abstract ideas easy for non-professional groups to understand. 38 Scientists
sharing clever and humorous stories about laboratory experiments on social media often attract
more interactions than dry academic posts. Additionally, humor humanizes scientists, as seen in popular science lectures where light-hearted jokes help audiences feel closer to researchers.
39 The hidden risks deserve our attention. If the content itself is untrue, humor can even replace facts, leading the audience to form wrong opinions about scientific knowledge just based on the amusing posts they see. Overusing sarcasm or negative humor also has the
opposite effect, as it will quickly make scientists lose the public’s trust and damage their credibility.
Proper humor use requires a balance between vivid expression and professional precision. It should neither overshadow the core scientific information nor be so shallow that it loses
seriousness. 40 Scientists who master this balance can effectively narrow the divide with the public, making science more welcoming and popular.
A .Overuse harms professionalism.
B .It also boosts audience engagement effectively.
C .It helps break the impression of scientists being cold and distant.
D .A little humor can greatly enhance scientists’ communication effect.
E .Humor in scientific communication is a double-edged sword, though.
F .It’s a helper in making complex concepts understandable to ordinary people.
G .It is believed humor needs to be used with great care in such communication.

My name is Shaquille O’Neal, but no, I am not the legendary basketball star everyone
knows. My parents are big basketball fans, so they named me after him, sparking my love-hate relationship with the name. We share only our passion for basketball; he’s a tall, famous
icon, while I'm a short boy who can barely dribble (运球) the ball without dropping it.
Every Saturday, the Central District’s Boys and Girls Club sponsors league-play for all age groups. My age group, 9 to 11, is the biggest. For years, I was always the last picked. “He’s too
small!” Louis, a team captain, would say coldly while my teammates laughed. I’d sit on the hard bench the whole game, then lie to my dad about having fun, my heart aching to do my part for the team instead of just watching from the sidelines.
Last November, I got to play, thanks to Thanksgiving trips and flu season. I tried to make up for my poor skills by being really aggressive. I would always defend the biggest kid on the
other team, and ended up with a bloody nose.
The Boys and Girls Club has a great nurse’s room. I know because I spent more time in
there than on the court. The nurse was a Vietnamese lady, and because none of the kids could
pronounce her name, they called her Skimmy. Skimmy didn’t know anything about basketball or any other American sports, but she was nice and had a pretty smile.
By my twelfth nosebleed, Skimmy was my friend. It was she who finally helped me
become a better player. “Mr. Shaq,” she said one Saturday, “I watch you play. You always get

interest. It’s actually right here. Please say hello to one of Scotland’s most famous dogs,
Greyfriars Bobby! As you can see, this is just a statue of Bobby. The real dog died years ago. It
was January 14th, 1872, to be exact. When he was very young, his owner, John Gray, sadly died. Bobby spent the next fourteen years guarding John’s grave (坟墓)! He loved his owner so much
that he never wanted to be parted! Every day, people would see him sitting there. He became quite the celebrity! He was so popular that the leader of Edinburgh city at the time, Sir William
Chambers, paid for Bobby’s dog license in 1867. Bobby eventually died and was buried not far
from his beloved owner, which means that even today, he remains by his owner’s side! Over the
years, people have told many versions of this story. Countless books have been written, and films made! Greyfriars Bobby is a symbol of love and devotion (忠诚) to this day! In my opinion, this is the most touching part.

service life 30 times longer than ordinary digital printed works, a conclusion that has long
solidified his stubborn adherence to pure traditional techniques.(这些严谨的研究文件得出结论:化学处理的胶片打印品拥有无可比拟的色调层次和物理保存稳定性,使用寿命是普通数字打印作品的 30 倍,这一结论长期以来坚定了他对纯传统工艺的执着坚守。)” 以及第四段中“At first, Lin Mo rejected the proposal disdainfully, deeming any digital integration a betrayal of
After carefully appreciating the finished prints, the young man spoke earnestly: “Your meticulous manual craftsmanship endows photos with irreplaceable
human warmth, yet proper digital tone calibration can retain that warmth while restoring subtle,
根据第五段“This sudden epiphany made him completely abandon his long-held rigid mindset. He finally comprehended that genuine craft inheritance is never blind conservatism or total rejection of novelty.(这种突然的 使他完全摒弃了长期以来僵化的思维模式。他最终领悟到,真正的工艺传承绝不是盲目保守或完全排斥新奇事物。) ” 可知,他最终领悟到,真正的工艺传承绝不是盲目保守或完全排斥新奇事物。所以“epiphany” 指的是突然的领悟。故选 A。
These rigorous research documents conclude that
chemically processed film prints possess unparalleled tonal layers and physical preservation
stability, with a service life 30 times longer than ordinary digital printed works, a conclusion that has long solidified his stubborn adherence to pure traditional techniques.(这些严谨的研究文件得出结论:经化学工艺处理的胶片印品拥有无可比拟的色调层次与实物保存稳定性,使用寿命是普通数码打印作品的 30 倍,这一结论长期以来坚定了他对纯粹传统工艺的执着坚守。)”和第五段中“This sudden epiphany made him completely abandon his long-held rigid mindset. He finally comprehended that genuine craft inheritance is never blind conservatism or total rejection of novelty.(这番突如其来的顿悟让他彻底摒弃了长期固守的刻板观念。 故选 A。

根据第三段“The participants generally did better when they were working in silence.(参与者们在安静的环境中工作时表现通常会更好)”可知,参与者在完全安静的环境下表现最佳。故选 C。
He also suggested that Mozart’s music could aid brain
development. Later studies indicated it might enhance children’s spatial intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could boost a child’s IQ. The governor of the state of
Georgia even once advocated allocating over $100,000 annually to supply classical CDs to every newborn in the state.(他还指出,莫扎特的音乐有助于大脑发育。 故选A。
Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music
could help with concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly
preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that

根据第三段中“hyper-scaled models outperform smaller ones in short-term (1– 3 months) warnings, with tropical cyclone path prediction errors reduced by 22%(超大型模型在短期(1-3个月)预警中表现优于小型模型,热带气旋路径预测误差降低了 22%)”可知,2026年 WCRP 研究发现超大型模型将短期预警准确率提高了 22% 。故选 C。
Policymakers, meanwhile, are misled by large models ’ “global optimality” claims, ignoring local climate disparities and undermining the effectiveness of

What Skimmy had said made a lot of sense: I had been so busy trying to act tough and
guard the tallest players that I completely ignored my own strength — speed. For the first time, I stopped focusing on my height and poor dribbling. Instead, I started practicing running every day after school, racing along the street and practicing quick turns. I no longer tried to fight with big guys but learned to use my speed to move freely on the court. Skimmy’s words lit up a path for
me, and I was determined to show my value in my own way.
The next Saturday, I stepped onto the court with a different plan. When the game began, I ran quickly across the court, stealing the ball from opponents before they could react. My speed
surprised everyone, including Louis. I passed the ball accurately to teammates and helped score
several times. I didn’t get hurt or sit on the bench anymore. At the end of the game, my teammates
