Breaking the Streak (连续打卡)
Have you ever noticed yourself stuck in a streak on a social media app Maybe you’re
practicing a language daily, or posting your 1 (late) achievements for friends to see. These little reminders are meant 2 (keep) you motivated, but after a while, keeping up with them can be tiring. No wonder people start asking: why do these habits form so easily, and can they
actually be broken
Researchers 3 (study) social media habits for decades, and it turns out they’re driven by simple psychological rewards. Apps 4 most users create profiles and interact with others provide rewards that encourage them to return. Sometimes, it’s obvious — a “like”, a comment, or a message. Other times, it’s quieter — a little moment of satisfaction or feeling 5
(connect).
Over time, these rewards link the app to certain situations. For instance, ___6___ you tend to grab your phone when you’re bored, your brain starts connecting that boredom with opening the app. It soon becomes automatic, and even a notification (通知), a free moment, or your mood can serve as a cue (暗示) for the habit without thinking.
The good news These habits 7 (not set) in stone. Since they rely on learned
connections, you can weaken them by changing your routine or limiting exposure 8 the reminders. Turning off notifications, moving apps out of easy reach, or doing something else instead can all help break the cycle.
Understanding 9 social media habits work gives you the upper hand. Once you spot

the cues and rewards 10 (drive) your behavior, you can make smarter choices about when and how to use these apps.

This London Museum Lets You Order Objects
Visitors to museums usually see only a small part of their large collections. But the Victoria and Albert Museum (V & A) in London is trying something new. Last month, the museum
introduced a(n) 11 space where visitors can enjoy more of its historically and culturally significant pieces that showcase 5,000 years of human creativity.
The museum has 12 a warehouse into a climate-controlled exhibition and research venue called the V&A East Storehouse. There, guests can get an up-close look at over 250,000 objects and 350,000 library books — without any ropes, protective glass or guards separating
them from the 13 .
Located on the site of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the building is a love letter to objects.
The items are arranged ___14___ on rows of metal shelves, without regard for their geographical origins, time period or medium. By seeing the back of an object, looking inside a dress, or
examining the bottom of a pot, visitors can make insightful observations, gaining a(n) 15 understanding of material culture. Such close and direct 16 can reveal details that are often hidden behind glass cases, turning observation into discovery.
By giving the public nearly unrestricted 17 to the objects, the manager of the
museum hoped that the space would allow visitors to form a closer bond with the collection. More broadly, the storehouse marks a new 18 in the way museums engage with their collections. An estimated 97 percent of museum artifacts (手工艺品) remain in storage at any given time, and the 19 of works on display may decline further as museums keep adding new items —
unless they build more exhibition space.

With society placing increasing pressure on achievement, it is understandable that people tend to hide their weaknesses. However, this tendency may bring consequences.
I learned this lesson during a hiking trip. As a beginner, I found the journey extremely . Even without carrying heavy equipment, I struggled to keep up with the group.
Although I was slowing everyone down, I chose to remain , hoping others would not notice my difficulty.
To my surprise, one of the more experienced hikers suggested taking a break. At that
moment, I noticed a sense of spreading among the group. It then became clear that I
was not alone in my discomfort. Many of us had been trying to present a stronger image than reality.
For many people, being authentic — showing one’s true self — is far from . As social beings, we are used to adapting to our environment, which makes it difficult to what we really think. We often assume that hiding our weaknesses will help us leave a more
impression on others. Yet both research and experience suggest otherwise. The of authenticity are becoming increasingly apparent.
In fact, studies show that authentic individuals not only feel more engaged but also help create a more supportive environment. Their behavior can gradually the attitudes of those around them. Even people who do not intend to be authentic may begin to change. In this way, authenticity does not remain a personal quality but begins to within a group,
shaping the overall work atmosphere.
One explanation for this effect is that authentic people do not place self-protection above

everything else. , they try to balance their own needs and those of others, creating a
sense of psychological safety. As a result, others feel when sharing their true feelings. Over time, such an atmosphere encourages cooperation and openness. Therefore, by focusing less on appearing hardworking and more on becoming well-rounded individuals, we can make a
lasting in our environment. At the same time, we may inspire others to follow our . In the end, authenticity proves to be not a weakness, but a powerful strategy for building better relationships.

(A)
As a kid, my identity was wrapped up in sports. I spent countless hours practicing
试卷第 4 页,共 13 页
basketball in my driveway. Yet for three straight years, I got cut from the middle school basketball team.
Soccer seemed more promising. I’d played for nearly a decade, but when high school
tryouts came, I still failed to make the team. Determined not to give up on sports, I turned to
diving. At first, I was terrible. I could barely touch my toes without bending my knees, and I was afraid of heights.
Still, I kept practicing. I often stayed at the pool until dark, leaving only when my coach
forced me out. I believed that greatness was built through daily effort. Eventually, my persistence paid off. By my senior year, I had become an All-American diver and qualified for the Junior
Olympic Nationals. Diving soon became more than just an activity — it became my identity.
However, when I entered college, the sport I loved became something I started to fear. At that level, I could no longer beat more talented divers by working harder. Yet I kept pushing
myself, partly because of one troubling question: If I’m not a diver, who am I
Psychologists call this identity foreclosure — when people commit too early to a particular identity and ignore other possible selves.
After my freshman year, I began to rethink. I realized that diving was a passion rather than a life purpose. My deeper goal was to grow and contribute, and there were many ways to do that.
Retiring from diving freed me up to spend the summer doing psychology research and
working as a diving coach. It also gave me time to concentrate on my silliest hobby — performing as a magician.
Since then, I have set an annual reminder in my calendar to rethink important parts of my life. Just as we visit doctors for regular health checkups, we can also examine our goals, habits, and relationships. Sometimes the most important step forward begins with the courage to rethink who we are.

In the middle of my 20s, there was a baldness (秃头) debate among the men: if one went
bald, did it make them all look old And if so, did the first bald man have the responsibility to take hair-growth serum (精华) It was so fierce that considerations like: “Does the serum really work And if it does, why is anybody bald ” became less important. I can’t remember how the debate
ended because, sooner or later, give or take 25 years, everyone was bald, except for the ones who most definitely were not.
Now in our 50s, the battleground is reading glasses and people handle them in small,
sometimes amusing ways. One friend hates it when you never quite take them off, and just slide
试卷第 8 页,共 13 页
them to the top of your head, because she thinks it’s beyond physical laziness: the beginning of
ruin, like eating with your hands, or putting your feet on the table. I love wearing my glasses on
my head, because then I either know where they are, or forget where they are, and am wearing a
pair on my face as well, win-win. But I hate it when people wear them round their neck on a
chain, because it symbolizes that my decoration days are over. From now on, anything I hang off myself will be useful, and soon I will get a flashlight and a big bunch of keys, and I’ll be ready for absolutely anything except the fancy life.
One of my friends can’t understand why everyone doesn’t have contact lenses (隐形眼镜). Another friend hates it when anyone’s glasses are attached to them by anything, because it means he can’t steal them, which he does constantly; often you can only find them again by following the sound of him shouting: “are these a THREE POINT FIVE ” Another friend won’t wear anything out of pride, and has the text size so large on his phone that I have accidentally read every text
he’s been sent for the past five years, one giant word at a time.
No kind of glasses can make us look younger, unless we all lose them together; then we’ll all look 25.
43 .The men debated baldness fiercely because they .
A .doubted whether hair serum really worked
B .were uncertain about when they might go bald
C .disagreed about how hair loss could be prevented
D .worried that baldness would make them look older
44 .What does the word “ruin” most nearly mean in paragraph 2
A .A decline in manners or standards. B .A loss of physical strength.
C .A failure in personal relationships. D .A problem caused by poor eyesight.
45 .By saying “then we’ll all look 25” in the last sentence, the author implies that .
A .glasses can easily make people appear older
B .losing glasses will make people look younger
C .aging signs matter less when everyone shares them
D .people should avoid wearing glasses whenever possible
46 .What is the main idea of the passage
A .People argue about whether hair growth products are effective.
试卷第 9 页,共 13 页
B .People humorously discuss signs of aging as they grow older.
C .Middle-aged people develop different habits when using reading glasses.
D .Technology has changed the way people deal with vision problems.
Section C
Directions: Complete the following passage by using the sentences given below. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences
than you need.
This Is Why Your Dog Growls (低吼) When You Pet Them
Learning dog body language can be challenging for beginners. If your dog growls when you pet
them, they’re likely saying “no”. Sometimes your dog growls to set a boundary: they don’t want to be petted right now. 47 So we should watch their body language and environmental cues to determine the cause of the growling.Warning Growls
Warning growls might sound scary, but it’s just your dog saying “no”. If your dog gives a warning growl when being petted, it doesn’t mean they’ll bite, but means they don’t want to be petted at
all. Never punish or ignore a warning growl. We want our dogs to be able to say no, and punishing communication makes them less likely to communicate with us in the future.
48 Pain-Related Growls
Your dog might not want to be touched if it is hurt or sick. They might growl when you touch a
certain part of their body because it hurts or just feels uneasy. It may also refuse to eat, play, or
move around as actively as it normally does. If growling is unusual for your dog, a trip to the
animal hospital is a must. Any behavioral change like this can indicate that something’s wrong, so a good check-up is needed to rule that out. 49 Only after a professional examination can
you be sure what is wrong.Happy Growls
Some dog types are more likely to growl even when happy! This might be super confusing for you. After all, how do you tell the difference ___50___ Are they lying on their back in your lap, relaxed and enjoying stomach rubs This is a sign of a happy puppy! Context is also
important. For instance, many dogs will growl when you’re rubbing a good spot, like their ears. They’ll continue leaning into your hand, indicating they want more!
A .However, dogs can also growl out of pain or happiness.
试卷第 10 页,共 13 页
B .The key, in this case, is to observe your dog’s body language.
C .Delaying medical attention could make its condition even worse.
D .Noticing whether your dog is comfortable with contact is important.
E .Therefore, reacting negatively to such signals may stop their expression.
F .This may cause a dog to bite directly, as it feels its signals won’t be noticed otherwise.
III. Summary Writing
51.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Stop Being a People-pleaser
Imagine this: a relative calls and says she is planning to visit you for the holidays, but you had your heart set on a quiet celebration with your family. Not wanting to disappoint her, you
agree, and suddenly your holiday plans have become hers. If this situation sounds familiar, you
may be a people pleaser. Instead of saying no to things you really don’t want to do, you say yes. While it’s reasonable to be a team player at work or be kind to family members, you have to do it at your own expense, which is unwise and unhealthy.
But where does people-pleasing come from More often than not, it’s a learned behavior from childhood. If you grew up in a family where you were not allowed to have a say, you may have learned to stay quiet to avoid unpleasant consequences. Additionally, there are several
different characteristics that may contribute to people-pleasing. Perfectionists, for example, often assume that others hold the same high standards as they do for themselves. Consequently, afraid of not living up to these imagined expectations, they tend to prioritize others’ needs.
Luckily, it’s possible to break away from the habit of pleasing others. It starts with saying no — awkward and uncomfortable though it may be, your well-being depends on it. Setting
simple boundaries to protect your time, energy, and emotions also works. For example, don’t
answer work emails after hours, stop lending money to that relative who never pays you back, or tell a friend who disrespects you, “Please don’t talk to me that way”. Finally, practice treating
yourself as well as you treat others. You may have been raised to think caring for yourself is selfish, but always putting others before yourself will only wear you out.
