One day, when he was cutting wood beside a lake, he lost his axe in the water. The water was deep, and he could not get his axe back. He had only one axe, and he needed it to make a living. He sat down and began to cry. As he cried, a fairy appeared. She asked the man what was wrong.
She listened to the woodcutter and felt sorry for him. But what could she do to help Suddenly, she came up with a great idea. The fairy jumped into the lake and brought back a golden axe.

“Is this the axe you lost ” asked the good fairy. The man looked at the golden axe and shook his head. He told the fairy it wasn’t his. The fairy jumped into the water again and brought back a silver axe. Once again, the man said that it wasn’t his.
The fairy went down a third time and returned with the woodcutter’s old axe. “That’s the right one!” said the woodcutter.

make a living 表示“谋生;维持生计”,后接by + 动名词(表方式) 、as + 职业(表身份) 或in + 地点(表环境) 。

3. She asked the man what was wrong.
主句主语是She,谓语是asked,the man 是间接宾语,what was wrong 是一个宾语从句,作直接宾语。
4. Suddenly, she came up with a great idea.
e.g. Suddenly/All of a sudden, I realized that I left my schoolbag at home.
The screen went off suddenly in the middle of the movie.

come up with 和think of 的区别
come up with侧重强调“通过思考产生并提出”,主语多为人;

Can you think of a way to solve this problem

5. The man looked at the golden axe and shook his head.
e.g. The child shook her head to say no.
6. The fairy jumped into the water again and brought back a silver axe.

7. Once again, the man said that it wasn’t his.
(2) over again 重新;再一次,侧重“从头开始重复”,常与“do/make/start”等动词搭配。

8. The fairy was so happy with the woodcutter’s honesty that she gave him the other two axes as a present.
主句主语是The fairy,系动词是was,表语是happy,说明主语状态;with the woodcutter’s honesty 是介词短语作状语,表“因樵夫的诚实而……”。
such + (a/an) + 形容词+ 名词+ that 从句,表示“如此……
so... that... 与such... that...
too... to...(太……
e.g. The book was so interesting that I read it twice.
