A Using question words + to-infinitives
使用疑问词加不定式
疑问词加不定式的四种结构:
(1) Adjective + question word + to-infinitive
结构说明:形容词后接 “疑问词 + 不定式”,补充说明主语的状态或感受。
例:I am not sure what to do next.
我不确定接下来该做什么。
(2) Verb + object + question word + to-infinitive
结构说明:动词后先接宾语,再接 “疑问词 + 不定式”,不定式补充说明宾语的
动作。
例:He showed us where to find the books.
他指给我们去哪里找书。
疑问词加不定式的四种结构:
(3) Verb + question word + to-infinitive
结构说明:动词后直接接 “疑问词 + 不定式”,不定式整体作动词的宾语。
例:I didn’t know what to say at that moment.
那一刻我不知道该说什么。
(4) Verb + question word + noun + to-infinitive
结构说明:动词后接 “疑问词 + 名词 + 不定式”,名词是不定式动作的对象。
例:She forgot which shelf to put the book on.
她忘了该把书放在哪个书架上。
All question words can be used with to-infinitives except why.
除了why之外,所有疑问词都可以与不定式连用。
例:
Suzy will explain why to recommend this book.(×)
Suzy will explain why she recommends this book. (√)

Read the text below and pay attention to the use of must and have to.
I am writing a book review for the school newspaper, and I have to hand it in on Friday. I have to give a short summary of the book, but I mustn't give away the ending. I don't have to love the book. I just need to give my reasons for liking it or not. I must check my spelling and grammar before I hand it in.
We use must and have to to say that it is necessary to do something.
我们使用“must”和“have to”来表示做某事是必要的。
We use must when the speaker feels that something is necessary.
当说话者认为某事是必要的时,我们使用“must”。
例:I must check my spelling and grammar before I hand in my book review.
“I must run away from them,” Gulliver thought.
We use have to when the situation makes something necessary.

例:I have to hand in the book review on Friday.

We use must not to say that something is not allowed.

We use do not have to to say that it is not necessary to do something.
