2.What do you think is special about it
3.What other natural wonders do you know
Look and share
Yes, I do. The waterfall in the photo is Victoria Falls.
I think it's special because it's very big. A large amount of water falls down from a high place, making a great sound and creating a lot of spray.
Angel Falls, Mount Qomolangma, Sahara Desert…
Highest place on Earth
Largest hot desert
Deepest part of the ocean
What is amazing about nature
Warming-up
Qomolangma is 8,848.86 metres high. Its weather is very cold. In January, the temperature can drop to -60 degrees Celsius.
Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world. It stands in the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and China’s Tibet.
The Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world. It is in North Africa. It is very big—about 9 million square kilometres. That’s almost as large as the United States!
The Sahara is very dry and hot. In summer, the daytime temperature can be over 50 degrees Celsius. But at night, it gets much cooler. There are few plants here—mostly small bushes and cacti. Some animals, like camels, live here too. Camels can go without water for a long time.
The Mariana Trench is the deepest place in the world’s oceans. It lies in the western Pacific Ocean, near the Mariana Islands. Its deepest part is called Challenger Deep. It’s about 11,000 meters deep—that’s so deep you could put Mount Everest (the world’s highest mountain) into it, and there would still be more than 2,000 meters of water above!
The Mariana Trench is very dark and cold. No sunlight can reach its bottom. The water pressure there is super high—much higher than on land. But some special animals live here, like small fish that can glow (make their own light) in the dark.
Match the places with the pictures.
