不完全爆破是指爆破音（/p, b, t, d, k, g/）在特定情况下不完整释放气流，仅作出发音姿势而不完全爆破的现象。
(1) 爆破音 + 爆破音
当一个爆破音后面紧跟另一个爆破音时，第一个爆破音失去爆破（仅作口型停顿，不释放气流）。
爆破音（6个）： /p, b, t, d, k, g/
示例：
/t/ + /k/: act kind [ k (短暂停顿) ka nd]
/d/ + /g/: bad girl [b (短暂停顿) g l]
/p/ + /t/: stop talking [st (短暂停顿) t k ]
(2) 爆破音 + 摩擦音/破擦音
爆破音后接摩擦音（如 /f, v, s, z/）或破擦音（如 /t , d /）时，爆破音不完全释放。
摩擦音（9个）：/f, v, θ, , s, z, , , h/
破擦音（2个）：/t , d /
示例：
/t/ + / /: white shoes /wa (短暂停顿) u z/
/d/ + / /: and that [ n(短暂停顿) t]
/k/ + /s/: taxi ['t (短暂停顿)si]
(3) 爆破音 + 鼻音/边音
爆破音后接鼻音（/m, n, /）或边音（/l/）时，爆破音通过鼻腔或舌侧释放，而非口腔爆破。
