It means good luck. Ma Li thought her day was full of bad luck, but in the end, the teacher canceled the test, and the day ended with a lucky surprise.
Surprised and relieved: I was so worried about the test, but now I don’t have to take it!

What a day!
One Possible Version:
Last Friday, I had a really bad day.
While I was having breakfast with my younger sister, the sky was growing darker and darker. I heard thunder and saw lightning. When I left the house, it started to pour heavily. I forgot my umbrella and got wet right away. Then, I ran to the bus stop, but the bus was late. By the time the bus arrived, I was cold and wet all over. As a result, I was late for class. But luckily, the teacher didn’t blame me.
I felt relieved but still a little upset about my bad day.
