Body language is a way of communication without using words. Much body language is subconscious (潜意识的). This means that people using body language don’t know they’re using it. Body language is very useful. Some scientists even say that it actually communicates more information than using words.
Being able to “read” body language means understanding what a person really thinks through his or her body language. People can understand other people through their body language even when they speak a different verbal (口头的) language.
Body language can show different feelings. For example, when a listener crosses his or her arms, it means he or she doesn’t agree with the speaker. Sitting straight shows that a listener is taking the speaker’s words seriously. When a person is lying, he or she likes to touch his or her face during the conversation.
