Zhang Guimei was born in a small village in Yunnan. She has experienced many difficulties in her life: she lost her husband and has been in poor health for years, but she never gave up her dream of helping girls go to school.
In 2008, Zhang Guimei set up China’s first free high school for girls — Huaping Girls’ High School. At that time, many poor mountain families believed girls didn’t need to study. Zhang Guimei visited every household in the mountains, communicated with parents, and tried her best to persuade them to send their daughters to school.
She worked day and night to run the school. She got up at 5 a.m. and slept late at night. She even spent her own money buying books and school things for students. Many teachers were touched by her spirit and came to teach with low pay.
In the past 15 years, over 2,000 poor girls have graduated from Huaping Girls’ High School and entered colleges. These girls have changed their own lives and their families’ lives. They have become doctors, teachers, engineers and more, and are making contributions to society.

Creative video makers are using AI technology to “bring back” famous people from history. With AI, they can make videos in which historical people speak, smile and even communicate with modern people. This new kind of content has become hot online and won millions of views.
How does this technology work First, video makers collect many pictures and videos of the historical person. Then they use AI tools to make a digital model of the person. AI can copy the person’s looks, voice and body language. Finally, they edit the video to make it seem the historical person is talking or doing things in modern times.
A popular example is a video where a maker “talks” with Du Fu, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty. In the video, Du Fu reads his poems and shares his life stories. Many viewers said it felt like talking with the poet face to face. Another example is a video communicating with Mencius, talking about study and life.
Some people think this is a great way to learn history. It makes history fun and lively, especially for teenagers who don’t like traditional history books. However, others are afraid the AI videos may not be correct. They say AI may change the words or actions of historical people, making people get wrong historical facts.
Although there are worries, this AI way is becoming more popular. It offers a new way for people to connect with history and learn the past in an interesting and interactive way.
( ) 21. What are creative video makers using AI to do
A. Make funny videos for fun.
B. Bring historical people “back to life”.
C. Teach people to use AI tools.
D. Write new historical stories.
( ) 22. What is the first step to make an AI historical video
A. Edit the video to make it lively.
B. Use AI to copy the person’s voice.
C. Collect pictures and videos of the person.
D. Talk to the digital model.
( ) 23. Why do viewers like the AI video of Du Fu
A. It shows his poems in a new way.
B. It makes him look modern.
C. It feels like really talking to him.
D. It tells new stories about him.
( ) 24. What do some people worry about
A. The videos cost too much to make.
B. The videos may show wrong history.
C. The videos are not popular with teens.
D. The videos will replace history books.
( ) 25. What is the main idea of the passage
A. AI is changing how we learn history.
B. Video makers use AI to make popular works.
C. Historical people are popular online.
D. AI has both good and bad sides.
