In the future, transportation will change a lot. Self-driving cars are already on some roads. These cars use sensors and computers to drive themselves. They can help reduce accidents because computers don’t get tired or distracted like humans. In some cities, people can also use “flying taxis” to avoid traffic jams on the ground. These are small electric planes that can take off and land like a helicopter.
Another exciting idea is the Hyperloop. It’s a system of tubes. Special pods (舱) inside the tubes can carry people or goods at very high speeds—over 1,000 km per hour! This means a trip from Beijing to Shanghai might take only one hour. Scientists are also working on “smart roads.” These roads can collect energy from the sun and send information to cars about traffic or weather ahead.
However, these new technologies also bring problems. Self-driving cars might be very expensive. Flying taxis could be noisy. Building the Hyperloop system costs a lot of money. But most people agree that these changes will make our lives more convenient in the future.

D.Carry people at a speed of 1,000 km/h.
5.Which problem is NOT mentioned in the passage
A.High cost. B.Noise. C.Air pollution. D.Expensive price.
6.What is the author’s attitude (态度) toward future transportation

Forests are often called the “lungs of the Earth” because they absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis. However, their role in fighting climate change goes far beyond that. Trees also act as natural carbon storage units. When they grow, they lock carbon in their trunks, branches, leaves, and roots. This stored carbon remains out of the atmosphere, where it would otherwise contribute to global warming.
Deforestation, particularly in tropical regions like the Amazon, releases this stored carbon back into the air. According to a 2022 study, tropical deforestation accounts for about 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions each year. Moreover, when forests are burned or cut down, the land often loses its ability to recover, turning from a carbon sink into a carbon source.
Reforestation and afforestation—planting trees in deforested or previously treeless areas—can help reverse this trend. But experts warn that planting trees is not a simple solution. It takes decades for young forests to store the same amount of carbon as mature ones. Additionally, choosing the right tree species and locations is critical, as poorly planned planting may harm local ecosystems.
In short, protecting existing forests is just as important as planting new ones.

The Sad Peacock
A peacock with beautiful feathers was dancing happily on a rainy summer day. He enjoyed the rain so much that he couldn’t help singing. But as he tried, he found his voice didn’t sound beautiful at all. People around laughed at his rough and unpleasant singing, and he stopped dancing, feeling sad.
While the peacock lost himself in sadness, a nightingale started singing happily on a nearby branch. The sweet voice of the nightingale caught the sad peacock’s attention and further made him unhappy with his own voice. He began wondering why the nightingale was a born singer with such a sweet voice while he wasn’t.
Feeling hopeless, the peacock went to the wise old tree in the middle of the forest. He told the tree about his sadness and complained that he could never sing like the nightingale. The wise old tree listened carefully and then said in a soft voice, “My dear peacock, you don’t need to be a singer. You have the most colourful feathers in the forest, and you are a wonderful dancer. Without any doubt, your dancing with your beautiful feathers is far more amazing than any song. Everyone is born with special gifts that help them shine in their own ways. The monkey is clever and can climb trees quickly; the nightingale has a lovely voice; you have your feathers and dance. Mr Sun once shared his experience online. He met a man nearly every day on the underground. The man was always watching TV shows on his mobile phone without using headphones (耳机). So he decided to teach the man a lesson by copying him. After telling his plan to the man, he played a song over and over again till the man shouted at him and left.
This kind of thing will not happen on the underground in Shanghai because of a new rule (规定). The rule says all passengers (乘客) must not use speakers on their mobile phones. That is, if they want to watch TV shows or listen to music, they need to use headphones. If they don’t, workers at the underground station will stop them, or even hand them over to the police officer.
Many people in Shanghai say the rule protects the rights (权利) of other people on the underground and creates a better environment. “Playing music or videos through speakers can be disturbing to others,” they say. “Many people need to have some peace and quiet before or after work.”
People from other cities love the rule too. “It’s faster for me to go to work by underground, but I choose to get up early and drive the car,” a man in Hangzhou says. “I just can’t stand the man-made noise on it. I hope we can have the same rule soon.”

The Fourth English Festival of Mount International School opened last month. There were singing competitions, recitation contests and many other interesting events.
The closing ceremony was impressive. Students and teachers enjoyed delicious food, took part in games and, most of all, got to know much about foreign cultures. The theme of the closing ceremony was “A Foreign Culture Carnival”. There were eight tents set up on the playground. Each tent stands for one country, namely Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Holland, India, Egypt, Switzerland and the UK. Let’s have a look at three of them.
The Japanese tent is the most popular one. Walking near the tent, you can see a big tree decorated with many cherry blossoms (樱花), which were made of paper. The tree is about two metres high, and the hundreds of blossoms on it were painted by students one by one. A girl is showing the tea ceremony in front of the tree. The scene has a Japanese look.
Many students gather around the Australian tent. Alice from Class 6, Grade 6 is dancing near the tent. She has learned ballet, traditional Chinese dancing and Latin. She wears very little. She must feel very cold!
British tent looks very special. A boy wearing a Scottish kilt (苏格兰方格短裙) is playing the violin in front of the tent. Scottish men wear this kind of clothes. He doesn’t feel funny at all. He feels great wearing it!

One of the most important traditional festivals in China is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. This festival usually takes place between late January and early February, depending on the lunar calendar. The Spring Festival marks the beginning of a new year and is a time for families to come together and celebrate.
Before the festival begins, people clean their homes to sweep away bad luck and make space for good fortune. They also decorate their houses with red lanterns, couplets and paper-cuts, as red is considered a lucky colour. On the night before the new year, families gather for a big reunion dinner. This meal includes many traditional dishes, such as dumplings, fish and rice cakes, which symbolize wealth, prosperity and happiness.
During the Spring Festival, children receive red envelopes filled with money from their elders. These red envelopes, called “hongbao”, are given to wish the children good luck and good health in the coming year. Fireworks and firecrackers are also a big part of the celebration, as they are believed to scare away evil spirits.

The bright weather on Saturday, June 15, brought the yellow sun, blue skies and green grass. But the strawberry brought the red.
The ABPA(阿宾顿商业会)worked together for the last couple of months to bring back the strawberry festival. The members decided to hold this event with the welcoming of the Summer Solstice(夏至). The festival came alive again with the vendors(摊贩), games, and races all through the downtown.
It started with a race for the kids. Children practised running before the race began. This gave them many chances to come in first place. Dressed in a strawberry suit, Miss Strawberry greeted the kids and took pictures with them. The kids got to draw strawberries on the pavements(人行道). They also played with water balloons.
Local businesses sold their strawberry treats, including strawberries and strawberry pies. Opened two months ago, Paul and Emily Bobensky, the owners of Lacka Lemonade, sold their fresh lemonade(柠檬味汽水). They normally go to the farmers' markets. It is the first time that they appeared at the strawberry festival.
Even though it was a strawberry festival, there was a pie-eating contest including blueberry pies. People gathered around and cheered as five men raced to finish pies without using their hands.
