They bonded over their love of art and their future ambitions: Roux wanted to be an architect;Faith, an animator (动 画 片 制 作 者 ). But Faith’s school had no electricity, let alone the technology to teachcomputer animation.Roux, who grew up spending her summers in Africa, had raised funds for computers, water wells, andpersonal care supplies to make STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) moreaccessible to girls. The lack of electricity at Faith’s school presented another barrier. So in her backyard inVancouver, British Columbia, Roux spent her time designing and building a computer lab inside an up-cycledshipping container. She named the creation a BloomBox, hoping it would be a space where students would feelinspired to create something. Roux filled the lab with computing equipment and then topped it with a solar roof forreliable power. In the summer of 2021, she took it to Faith’s high school in Blantyre, Malawi. Once installed (安装), theBloomBox caught the attention of the Malawi Ministry of Education. “They want everyone to be verytechnologically literate by 2063, and that starts with making sure young people have contact with technology andcreative maker spaces,” Roux says. The ministry approved a plan to install 70 more labs across the country. To expand, however, Roux and a team of 30 professionals needed to address issues of efficiency, security, andtransportation to remote communities. BloomBox Design Labs was formed in 2023 as a public benefit companyafter moving all production to Malawi and South Africa to bring down costs, reduce transport time, and employlocal workers.Today, Roux’s friend Faith studies art and design at the University of Malawi. At present, the BloomBox hasfour functioning labs in the country. When Roux finishes the 70 planned labs, they will reach 200,000 studentswhose love of learning can bloom.24. What made Roux and Faith bond immediately A. Their similar educational background.B. Their plan to improve their school’s facilities.C. Their common experience of living in Africa.D. Their shared interest in art and future dreams.25. What can we know about Roux’s BloomBox A. It is a small charity center.B. It is a mobile power station.C. It is a self-powered computer lab.D. It is a fully equipped school playground.26. What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on A. Benefits the project brings to local people.B. Financial support from the local community.C. Measures taken to expand the project efficiently.D. Technical challenges during the installation process.27. Which of the following words can best describe Roux A. Humorous and kind. B. Ambitious and creative.C. Sympathetic yet cautious. D. Adaptable but conservative.CReunions offer a chance to reflect on how much has changed. One happened in Hollywood when Herepremiered (首映), bringing together the actors, director and writer behind Forrest Gump 30 years later for a newfilm. The stars were “de-aged” using new AI tools, making them more youthful in some scenes and enabling thefilm-makers to see the transformation in real time while shooting. With the use of generative AI in film-making come things worth watching. The first is how AI will be used totell new types of stories, as storytelling becomes more personalized and interactive. No one is quite sure how thenature of storytelling will change, but it is sure to. David Thomson, a film historian, compares generative AI to thecoming of sound. When movies were no longer silent, it changed the way plot points were made and how deeplyviewers could connect with characters. Cristobal Valenzuela, who runs a company providing AI-enhanced software, says AI is like a “new kind of camera”, offering a fresh “opportunity to re-imagine what stories are like”. Both areright.Another big development to watch is how AI will be used as a time-saving tool. Generative AI will automateand simplify complex tasks like film-editing and special effects. For a glimpse of the future, watch EverythingEverywhere All at Once, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2023. It featured a scene that used a“rotoscoping” tool to edit out the green-screen background and make a talking rock more believable. It shortenedinto hours what might have otherwise taken days of video-editing.What is also noticeable is more dramatic conflicts between creators and those running AI platforms. This yearis likely to bring floods of lawsuits from authors, musicians and actors about how their works have been used totrain AI systems without permission or payment. Perhaps they can agree on some sort of licensing arrangement, inwhich AI companies start paying copyright-holders.It will probably be a few years before a full-length film is produced entirely by AI, but it is just a matter oftime.28. What can we learn about the film Here A. It relates a story about youth. B. The theme of the film is reunion.C. AI tools are employed in the film. D. It is adapted from Forrest Gump.29. What does David think of AI’s application in film-making A. Transformative. B. Destructive. C. Representative. D. Relative.30. Why does the author mention the film Everything Everywhere All at Once A. To show the high efficiency of AI tools. B. To demonstrate the influence of the film.C. To analyze a novel way of video-editing. D. To praise the hard work behind the scenes.31. What is the article mainly about A. Conflicts between man and machine. B. AI’s huge effects on film production.C. Disadvantages of dependence on AI tools. D. Hot debate on the use of technology.DCompanion (陪 伴 )animals, particularly dogs, have been valuable throughout human history, helping inhunting and guarding. In modern times, as social connections weaken, people turn to animals for emotional support. However, the environmental impact of pets can be significant. Dogs and cats in the US alone are found to eat asmuch food as about 62 million Americans. Having a cat is like driving 5 minutes to a shop in a fuel-hungry SUV.The solution comes with the development of intelligent robot animals powered by machine learning. It is wellknown that humans are able to bond with machines. While we know robots aren’t alive, we tend to see human-likequalities in them. We often form emotional connections when they respond to us. New tech takes this to the nextlevel. In the early 2020s, Amazon introduced a home robot based on its Alexa voice-operated interface. But peopleworried it was recording information about their activities and sending it back to Amazon. To allay these fears, a tech company from Bangalore in India created “dumb” (笨) robots, which were builtwithout Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and with no internet connection. Their neural (神经的) networks aren’t outsourced tothe cloud, but they are self-contained, just like the brain of a biological dog. The technology, known as edge AI,had been developed a decade earlier, but the company improved it for its robot pets. People bonded rapidly withsuch devices, and reported deep trust in them. While these robots don’t physically grow, they learn and develop cognitively (认知地) over time, just likelittle dogs or cats. They can walk, run, jump, play, and also interact with humans. Their personalities are partlypre-programmed, but they are also shaped by interactions with their owners. Some features are unpredictable, muchlike the way a real pet’s personality develops. The robots, originally modeled after cats and dogs, are made withsoft materials and artificial fur. Later models include designs like dragons and Ewoks from Star Wars.Robot pets are sometimes hardwired to be devoted to their primary owner. They can be forced to love us. Andmany people find themselves loving their artificial pets. Their love feels real, and it doesn’t matter that they aren’treal.32. What phenomenon is described in paragraph 1 A. Companion animals contribute much to environmental problems.B. People rely on animals too much for emotional support.C. People no longer care about social connections.D. Food crisis poses a threat to our life.33. What does the underlined word “allay” in paragraph 4 mean A. Relieve. B. Express. C. Confirm. D. Understand.34. What can we know about the “dumb” robots A. Their appearance changes over time.B. They require human training for basic actions.C. They are limited to conventional animal designs.D. Their personality is partly shaped by experiences.35. What can be the best title for the text A. How pets win the heart of humansB. The rise and fall of Amazon’s home robotsC. Why people can bond with non-living thingsD. Robot pets: a greener way to enjoy company第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。How to Overcome Gym AnxietyHere are some practical tips to help you overcome anxiety in the gym and create a positive, empoweringexperience for yourself.Set realistic expectations. The first step in overcoming gym anxiety is to set realistic expectations.
