三、 阅读理解。
Living in China, I often see elderly people doing many fun activities. They practise tai chi, sing opera, dance, and even play with swords. These activities are usually done outside and help them stay active and social. I think this is great and wish it would happen in the UK more often.
My grandma lives in a nursing home in England. She plays bingo(宾戈游戏) and sometimes listens to music, but she rarely does much outside or with others. This situation is usual for many of the UK's elderly, as there isn't a strong community that helps them stay socially active. There's knitting(编织) and theatre, but not much dancing in the parks or opera singing. Such outdoor group activities are just not part of the culture, and I think that's a pity.
In China, elderly people stay active and social, which is good for their health. It's also very cheap. A professor(教授) from the University of Chicago said that dancing in parks became popular in China in the 1990s. It helped women stay healthy and make friends, which is important for fighting loneliness in old age.
In the UK, many elderly people feel lonely. They don't have many social activities, and this makes them feel isolated(孤独的). I hope the UK and other Western countries can learn from China. I want to see elderly people in the UK enjoying their later years, staying active, and being part of a healthy community.
1. How does the writer feel about elderly people's activities in China
A. They are boring. B. They are fun and healthy.
C. They cost too much money. D. They are only for young people.

A. ①—a, ②—b, ③—c B. ①—b, ②—a, ③—c
C. ①—c, ②—b, ③—a D. ①—b, ②—c, ③—a
3. Why does the writer talk about the professor from the University of Chicago
A. To explain dancing in parks is new in China.
B. To express elderly people in the UK hate dancing.
C. To share Western countries have better activities.
D. To help support the fact that activities help old people.
4. What's the best title for the text
A. Elderly Activities: China vs the UK
B. Outdoor Fun for the Elderly Worldwide
C. Loneliness Among the UK's Elderly People
D. How Tai Chi Helps the Elderly Stay Healthy

(2024徐州沛县五中期末改编)Hundreds of pedestrians(行人) in Tianjin have been punished so far this year for looking at their mobile phones while crossing the road. The regulation(规定) says that pedestrians who look at their mobile phones while crossing the road will first receive a warning or a fine of 50 yuan if they refuse to correct their behaviour.
“The warning is not a simple reminder. It is a legal(合法的) way in which a legal punishment notice is given to the pedestrians,” Xing Yi, an official of the government, said. “Those who refuse to cooperate(合作) with the traffic police or whose behaviour harms other people will be fined 50 yuan.”
Zhou Xin works in a busy area in Tianjin. He says that he gives such punishment three to five times each day, and that most of the time the legal warning is useful.
“More and more people look at their mobile phones while crossing roads, which raises the risk of traffic accidents,” said Yang Yingjun, another official of the government. “The regulation is trying to make people pay more attention to safety when they walk.”
Yang said that in 2019, a local university student who was looking at his mobile phone while crossing a road was hit and killed by a large truck. Similar accidents have been reported in many cities, such as Taizhou and Wenzhou, so those cities have similar regulations.
Many people have expressed their support for the regulation. “I think heavier fines should be given to people who look at their mobile phones on the road,” said a netizen(网民).

(2024宿迁泗洪期末)Try to think about this: you sit down and begin to eat a tomato. Suddenly, the tomato starts to scream! This thing would never really happen. But a new study showed that plants make sounds when they are stressed(压力大的).
Scientists in Israel did the study. They used ultrasonic microphones(超声波麦克风) to record the sounds of tomato plants in boxes.
Three groups of plants were listened to: one group wasn't watered for five days, another group had the stems(茎) cut off, and the third group was untouched. The first two groups made sounds 30 to 50 times every hour. The third group only made the sound once every hour. “When tomatoes are not stressed at all, they are very quiet,” scientists from the study team told CNN.
The researchers don't know how the sounds are made, but they believe the noise comes from the breaking of air bubbles in the plants. Scientists also believe that animals and insects may listen to the sounds. For example, the sound can tell them that the plant is stressed and not good for laying eggs on. When an animal wants to eat plants, it can also use the sound to choose which one to eat.
After the experiment, the researchers listened to other plants such as wheat, corn and trees, and found they also made more sounds when stressed. Researchers said the study can help farmers in the future, as they can better take care of the crops(庄稼) by “hearing” how plants feel.
1. What might we do to let tomatoes make sounds more often
A. Water them as needed. B. Plant them at the right time.
C. Give them enough sunlight. D. Cut off the stems of them.
2. According to scientists, by hearing the sounds, animals can ________.
A. feel as stressed as the plants
B. know when to help the plants relax
C. pick out the best plants to use or eat
D. protect themselves from dangerous plants
3. How can the study help farmers
A. It can help them grow healthy crops.

(2024扬州翠岗中学二模改编)I gave the young man I had rescued(救) bread and water. He was tired out and fell quickly asleep. I guessed his age at around twenty six. He was tall and strong and looked kind, especially when he smiled. He slept only about half an hour. Again he made gestures(手势) to show that he was grateful to me.
We communicated by gestures at first. Soon he showed himself much better at learning my language than I was at learning his. I told him I'm Robinson. I called him Friday, for it was on a Friday that I rescued him. He quickly learned “yes” and “no” and the names of many things.
At first, I didn't completely trust Friday and he was separated from me in another room. But soon I found it unnecessary. Nobody would be more loyal than Friday. He seemed to consider me almost as a father and was willing to help in any way.
For the next three years, I taught Friday to use all my tools. I took him to see everything I had made. Friday was quick to help with the work on the island. One day, I showed Friday the ruin of the wreck(沉船). I explained that I had come upon the island the same way. That was when Friday told me the most amazing thing. He saw such a wreck before, not far from his home.
“My guys and I rescued the white men from drowning,” he said.
I asked him how many men they had rescued, and he showed me on his fingers—seventeen. I was surprised at the idea of a group of Europeans so close. I took Friday to the highest point of the island where other lands could be seen. He began jumping and dancing.
