no longer = not ... any longer 不再……
no longer通常位于实义动词之前,系动词be、助动词或情态动词之后
not ... any longer中的any longer常放在句末
e.g. Rose no longer lives here.
= Rose doesn’t live here any longer.
Rose不再居住在这里了。
I will no longer play computer games.
= I will not play computer games any longer.
我再也不玩电脑游戏了。
The old man can no longer care for himself.
= The old man can’t care for himself any longer.
那个老人不能自理了。
【语境应用】根据所讲内容用no longer和not ... any longer两种形式将下列汉语句子翻译成英语。
1. 她不再在这儿工作了。
2. 我姐姐不再是护士了。
She no longer works here.
She doesn’t work here any longer.
My sister is no longer a nurse.
My sister is not a nurse any longer.
5. Scientists used to believe that ants came from the northern half of the earth.

e.g. I used to play the piano when I was younger.

used to结构的否定形式有两种:didn’t use to或usedn’t to (只用于英式英语)
used to结构在构成疑问句时,可借助助动词did,也可将used提到主语前(只用于英式英语)
e.g. The Whites didn’t use to live here. / The Whites usedn’t to live here.
