Old Chinese people divided(划分) a year into 24 parts. They are“solar terms(节气)”. They tell people when the weather changes and when to farm.
Lichun(Beginning of Spring)
It is the first solar term. It is in February.
Jingzhe(惊蛰)
As the spring comes, the weather warms up. The rain falls and the thunder roars(雷声轰隆隆). Chinese people call this time of the year Jingzhe. This year, it falls on March 5th.It's time for all the animals to get up and find food! Farmers start the year's work. There is more sunshine and rain. That's good for plants to grow. What do we do around Jingzhe Eating pears. It's getting warm around Jingzhe. Pears are sweet and juicy.Eating pears can be good for us.
Some become festivals.
Qingming
People sweep tombs(扫墓), go out for picnics and fly kites.
Some solar terms are about growing grains(谷物).
Guyu
It is in April, too. During this time, it rains a lot. It's important for grains to grow.
Xiaoman
It is in May. The grains are becoming full but are not ripe(成熟的) yet.
