Here several special solar terms are listed.Rain WaterRain Water signals the increase in rainfall and rise in temperature. With its arrival, theriver water defreezes, wild geese move from south to north, and trees and grass turn greenagain. Extra care is needed to cope with a returning cold spell in this period. The fast increasein air humidity due to rainfall can result in lower temperature and wet weather. It is stronglyadvised not to take off the thick coats too early, especially the elderly and children. The wet anddamp weather during Rain Water period is considered harmful to people’s spleen (脾 ) andstomach according to Chinese medical practice. Therefore, a bowl of nutritious porridge is thebest choice to nourish the body.Awakening of InsectsAs the third solar term in the lunar year, its name implies that animals sleeping in winterare awakened by spring thunder and that the earth begins to come back to life. It is the key timefor spring agricultural activities. Modern meteorological (气象) science shows that around thisperiod, the earth becomes wet, and the hot humid air from the north is strong and createsfrequent winds. For this reason, thunder often occurs.Spring EquinoxSpring Equinox signals the equal length of the day and night time. On the day of theSpring Equinox, the sun is directly above the equator. After the equinox, the sun movesnorthwards, resulting in gradually longer day time in the Northern Hemisphere. Standing anegg upright is a popular game during this period. It is believed that if someone can make the高二英语 第 3 页 共 11 页egg stand, he will have good luck in the future.Grain RainGrain Rain originates from the old saying, “Rain brings up the growth of hundreds ofgrains”, which shows that this period of rainfall is extremely important for the growth of cropsand people are busy working on the land. Grain Rain falls between the end of spring and thebeginning of summer, with infrequent cold air moving to the south and lingering cold air in thenorth. With dry soil, an unsteady atmosphere and heavy winds and sandstorms become morefrequent.21. What do Awakening of Insects and Grain Rain have in common A. Higher air temperature. B. More animal activities.C. More farming activities. D. Less frequent thundering.22. What can we learn about the day of the Spring Equinox A. The sun starts moving towards the south.B. The duration of day and night is exactly the same.C. The Southern Hemisphere sees a gradual increase in daylight.D. Standing an egg upright will make people wealthy.23. In which solar term would people most probably put on masks A. Rain Water. B. Awakening of Insects.C. Spring Equinox. D. Grain Rain.BI woke at 4 am to a pitch-black hostel room, my eight roommates all still sound asleep atthe early hour. I tiptoed out to change, stuffed a cheese roll in my mouth, and dragged thesuitcase holding a year of my life to the Kaikoura dolphin-watching tour office. With just a fewhours of sleep and more adrenaline (肾 上 腺 素 ) than I had jumping out of a plane, Idouble-checked my diving equipment in a rush. The moment we dove off the water, I was shocked awake. No amount of coffee, tea, orsugar has ever given me such an intense wake-up. It turns out, the ocean is freezing at 5 am,before the sun has risen and in early-spring. Don’t be scared off by the temperature, though, because 5 am is when the dolphins are most playful! For five seconds, I struggled to breathethrough the cold. Then, the wetsuit flooded with water and I was warm.A moment later, I was face to face with a wild dusky dolphin, one of the smallest speciesof dolphin in the world! As I swam alongside it awkwardly, the dolphin gracefully spun on thesurface while creating elegant spirals beneath me. I made strange Dory-esque whale noises todraw the attention of more members, including a tiny baby dolphin no bigger than my calf. Heseemed most interested in the strange-looking thing that kept getting trapped in her own“flippers (鳍) ”.The sun rose, warming my back as I continued to struggle among the most elegant高二英语 第 4 页 共 11 页animals in the ocean. The practice of swimming with wild dolphins is banned in the NorthIsland, where the species of Hector’s dolphins are in decline. But in Kaikoura, the practice isthriving and actually helping to restore the dolphin populations. By supporting this adventurousexperience, you’re supporting dolphin conservation.24. How did the author feel when she headed for the tour office A. Cautious. B. Excited. C. Anxious. D. Hesitant.25. Why did the author become wide awake suddenly A. Because the diving was scary.B. Because the water was bitterly cold.C. Because the dolphins were most playful.D. Because the coffee and tea were strong enough.26. What do we know about the wild dusky dolphin A. They are strange-looking. B. They are difficult to approach.C. They are the smallest dolphins on earth. D. They are keen on the whale noises.27. What’s the text mainly about A. A dolphin-watching tour in North Island.B. A tough decision on dolphin conservation.C. An adventurous encounter with wild dolphins.D. A wild dolphin species threatened by humans.CSummer tomatoes are so filled with promise: the red color; the grassy tomato-leaf smell;the expectation of a mouthful of sweet-salty tomato dishes. But supermarket tomato aftersupermarket tomato does little more than disappointment. How can a fruit with so muchpotential constantly taste slightly juicy at best and a globe of cardboard at worst We know that modern tomatoes sold at the supermarket are picked green and grown forpest resistance, shipping, and shelf life — and that the agriculture industry creates producedesigned for profit, not flavor. Are these the factors to blame for the tomato’s poor taste But even when allowed to ripen before they are harvested and shipped with great care, modern tomatoes are still tasteless. When researchers looked into this tomato matter, theyuncovered a fascinating genetic cause for the fruit’s dullness. What to blame is a gene mutation(基因突变) discovered accidentally around 70 years ago, onto which tomato growers quicklyrelied. In fact, now the mutation has been deliberately grown into nearly all modern tomatoes. Why It makes them a uniform and attractively red when ripe. Unfortunately for tomatolovers far and wide, the red-making mutation stops the activeness of an important generesponsible for producing the sugar and smell that are essential for a good smelling andflavorful tomato, as reported in the paper, which was published in the journal Science. Whenthe researchers “turned on” the gene that had stopped working, the fruit had 20% more sugar高二英语 第 5 页 共 11 页and 20-30% more carotenoids (胡萝卜素) when ripe. Yet the fruit’s non-uniform greenish colorsuggest that mainstream growers will not be following suit anytime soon. However, for anyone with a nearby farmer’s market, a supermarket that offers traditionalproduce, or a garden in the back, there is another choice instead of cardboard-flavored tomatoes.Traditional tomatoes and wild species have not had the essence of tomatoes sucked out of themby selective growing — so shop for those or grow them yourself. They may not look like theDisney version of a perfect fruit, but they actually taste like tomatoes.28. Why is a question raised at the end of paragraph 1 A. To encourage readers to take action.B. To draw a conclusion from comparison.C. To introduce the topic.D. To express disappointment at supermarket tomatoes.29. Why are modern tomatoes tasteless A. They have ripened when picked.B. They are treated with chemicals for shipping.C. They are kept on the shelf for too long.D. They are affected by gene mutation.30. What’s a disadvantage of the tomatoes the researchers grew according to paragraph 4 A. Taste. B. Color. C. Size. D. Production.31. What’s the author’s attitude towards traditional tomatoes A. Favorable. B. Unconcerned. C. Curious. D. Critical.DOne of the most famous experiments in social psychology is the “marshmallow (棉花糖)test,” in which a child is presented with a marshmallow and promised a second if they canresist eating the first for fifteen minutes. The ability to delay satisfaction has long been linkedto future success. However, in his deeply reflective new book The Long View, social scientistRichard Fisher argues that modern society has failed this test on a global scale, becomingdangerously trapped in “living for the moment.”Fisher’s central claim is that our ancestors possessed a “cathedral thinking” mindset — theability to plan for a future they would never personally see, much like the medieval builderswho started grand structures knowing they would take centuries to complete. Today, however, the pressures of the 24-hour news cycle, quarterly financial reports, and the instant pleasure ofsocial media have shortened our mental horizons. We are, as Fisher puts it, “time-limitedimmigrants” who are consuming the resources of the future to satisfy the temporary desires ofthe present. The book is not merely a critical report; it is a fascinating exploration of how we mightretrain our brains to think in longer periods. Fisher introduces readers to “The Long Now高二英语 第 6 页 共 11 页Foundation,” which is building a clock designed to tick for 10,000 years, and explores the legalconcepts of “intergenerational justice.” He suggests that we should treat future generations as“unborn citizens” with their own rights, rather than just abstract concepts. While Fisher’s writing is elegant and his research is thorough, some readers might find hisoptimism slightly disconnected from the harsh realities of modern politics. It is one thing toappreciate the beauty of a 10,000-year clock; it is quite another to persuade a politician toprioritize a fifty-year climate goal over next year’s pressure. Nevertheless, The Long View is anecessary wake-up call. It challenges us to look beyond our own lives and consider what kindof “good ancestor” we want to be.32. What is the main problem of modern society according to Richard Fisher A. People are highly focused on immediate interests.B. People lack the curiosity to explore the unknown.C. People have lost the ability to build grand structures.D. People are struggling with social media addiction.33. What is the characteristic of “cathedral thinking” as described in the text A. The ability to quickly adapt to the 24-hour news cycle.B. The skill of balancing quarterly reports with social media use.C. The willingness to invest in the well-being of future generations.D. The preference for building physical structures over digital ones.34. What can be inferred about the author’s attitude towards Fisher’s book A. Critical of its lack of scientific evidence and samples.B. Enthusiastic about its political influence.C. Doubtful about the author’s research methods.D. Supportive of its main message despite some concerns.35. What would be the best title for this text A. The Secret to Future Success: The Marshmallow TestB. What makes the early films of a director greatfun while the later ones a total mess ___36___ In this article, we take a look at how you canwatch films more critically.Give the film your undivided attention at least once. Filmmakers accept that they won’talways have their audience’s complete attention. Characters’ names might be repeated to make高二英语 第 7 页 共 11 页sure that you’ve heard them. Significant plot points will be highlighted with incidental musicso that you focus. But for the most part, a filmmaker will hope that you’ll be focusing on thefilm rather than having one eye on your friend’s party photos. ___37___Consider the themes the film explored. Picking out the themes and assessing how the filmtreats them is a central point of film criticism. A film’s theme could be something quiteunexpected; for instance, it might be an uncomfortable allegory (寓言). ___38___ For instance,The Lion King drew on the plot of Hamlet. Does it breathe new life into the story and take it inan interesting direction Or does it come across as an unimaginative copy of someone else’sbetter idea Analyze sound, lighting and production. There are some aspects of a film that you seldomnotice unless they go wrong. You may only notice sound if the levels are all wrong and theincidental music drowns out the dialog. Lighting, similarly, you may only notice if everythingis so bright that it looks like the action is taking place in a dentist’s office. __39__ You mightconsider how the choice of costume brightens a character, or how well-judged lightingdecisions make a scene just right.___40___ It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is something that isobjectively good or bad. But if you find yourself loving a film that other people seem to dislike, that isn’t necessarily a sign that there’s something wrong with your taste. Try to work out whyyour opinion might differ from other people’s. It could be that a film’s sense of humor agreeswith your own, or that a film reflects your life experiences.A. Don’t forget that it’s all subjective.B. Think about why you did or didn’t enjoy it.C. Try, just once, to watch the film as they intended.D. Try to train yourself to see these aspects of a film every time.E. How was the film constructed to provide a new insight into the theme F. Why do some films greatly excite people while others send people to sleep G. You can also consider if the film has drawn any inspiration from other source material.第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分 25分)第一节 完型填空(共 15小题; 每小题 1分,满分 15分)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。In 2013, Alvin Irby, a teacher, started Barbershop Books. Yet, those challenges don’t even come close to the difficulty of chasing and fighting. You have to make concerted efforts to act as if it’s effortless.W: I heard you grew up in Canada. How was that M: I have many family members there. I went to an international school, but the best thing was the fantastic countryside near my home. I spent most weekends camping in the forest, which was really great.W: So how did you get into acting M: Well, at university, I studied literature but never acted in any drama. After graduating, I worked as an assistant for a producer, working on a musical comedy. One night an actor was ill and I was asked to play his part and it just went from there.W: What would you have done if you hadn’t become an actor M: Well, both my parents devote themselves to educational careers. Even so, it hardly interested me. My older brother owns a company and he said that I could have a job in his office.
