I’ve lived in a lorry (卡车) with my younger sister Sinita and my parents for over 200 days now! We’re travelling around Africa. The lorry is a bit like a house on wheels (轮子), but it has less space. However, we have everything we need for our journey. It’s not fast. That is OK—we’re not in a hurry.
Our schoolbooks are the same as the ones back home. My mum gives us lessons and then sends our work to teachers on the Internet. But my favourite way of learning is by going on special trips that my parents plan. We’ve seen so many wonderful places, people and animals during the trip.
In September, we went camping in the Kalahari Desert (卡拉哈里沙漠). We learnt a lot about the night sky. The Kalahari is not like other deserts because it gets such a lot of rain that some parts of it look really green. We had a guide, and he told us about all the lovely animals that lived there.
In November, we went on a whale-watching tour in South Africa and saw six whales. We said hello to them. One even swam under our boat. That was really thrilling. I knew whales were big, but I couldn’t believe they were so large.
In December, we drove to Boulders Beach in South Africa. There are thousands of African penguins on the beach. These cute black and white birds can swim, but cannot fly. Many of the visitors who went to the beach enjoyed seeing their funny walk, but I was really interested in how clever they were at keeping their babies safe.

The 2026 Government Work Report clearly says that China will support qualified (符合条件的) areas to carry out spring and autumn holidays for primary and secondary school students, while putting into practice the wrong-time paid leave system for workers. As a hot topic, the policy has been tested in provinces such as Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Sichuan with useful experience.
These short holidays bring many good points to students. They can lower study pressure after long-time learning and help students keep healthy both in body and mind. With nice and comfortable weather, students can go out of classrooms to take part in real activities, including farming experiences, nature watching and local culture learning. In this way, book knowledge is turned into real-life experience.
The holidays also bring good points to families. Wrong-time leave lets parents spend happy time with their children at lower costs, away from the large crowds of busy travel seasons. Many families choose to travel, visit relatives or go to museums together, making family ties closer. At the same time, the holidays help develop local tourism and economy, making a win-win situation for education and society.
However, difficulties still exist in the policy's carrying out (实施). The main problem is that many working parents cannot look after their children during the holidays. To solve this, many schools offer childcare services with colorful activities, and local communities offer more activities for students. The holidays can also be set freely according to local situations.
In short, spring and autumn holidays for primary and secondary school students are an important educational change. They show a turn from exam-centered education to a focus on all-round development. With joint efforts from families, schools and society, these holidays will help students grow in a healthier and more meaningful way.

When I arrived at my class one early morning, I suddenly felt upset and uncomfortable. Today was the day when our teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was very easy to talk with and to have fun with. He was cool, relaxed and was always friendly when we saw him. I couldn’t even imagine how things were going to be without him.
“Thank you everyone for my time here. I will forever keep these memories and friendships I’ve made in the past five years.” He took a deep breath and said, “As a memento of my leaving, please look under your seats.”
Confused, I slowly checked under my seat to see a yellow block of wood that read “Love” on it. I quickly got it and began to study it. After seconds of watching the block, I realized that it was a Jenga block (积木块).
Tears ran down my face and fell on the Jenga block. I heard my classmates sobbing (抽泣). That was to say, everyone in my class had a Jenga block with the word “Love”. We hadn’t found a way to express our sadness and also we couldn’t find a way to express our love to the respectable man. “This is a reminder to always love others,” Mr. Smith said slowly.
Maybe that day wasn’t the worst day, and it was just a moment of my life and I was too young to understand Mr. Smith. Spring Breaks (春假) for Students
China’s tourism (旅游业) market will grow this spring. Some provinces are giving primary and secondary school students “spring breaks”. This idea was also talked about at the Two Sessions (两会). The government supports these breaks. They want families to travel during quiet times and increase consumption (消费).
Many cities have made their plans. For example, students in Jiangyan will have a three-day spring break from April 1 to April 3. If they combine (结合) it with the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday, it can be a six-day holiday. Nanjing and Suzhou have similar plans.
Travel companies say the tourism market will see notable growth this spring. Flight (航班) searches and bookings for late March and early April have doubled. Popular family trip places include Sanya (nice beaches), Kunming (good weather), and Guangzhou (delicious food). Some families also plan to visit Hong Kong, Macao, or even Bangkok.
Experts think this policy (政策) is good for families and the economy. Mr. Qi from Tuniu says spring breaks encourage (鼓励) family outings and educational tours.
Mr. Lu, a government adviser, thinks the policy should be used all over the country. He says it helps students be less worried and gives parents a chance to travel with their kids. The team are soon faced with their first match. When they play against another team from Westmoreland High School, they just lose so quickly!

Chet nods (点头). From then on, they practise hard together every day.
Months later, they meet Westmoreland again. When the game starts, Jason exchanges an encouraging nod with Chet. This time, they play as if they were one person!
