How did you spend your last holiday Did you just watch videos on your phone all day If so, you’re not alone. Many people spend too much time online.
Think about it—what do we usually do online For most of us, it’s just watching short videos. These videos may seem fun, but they don’t really help us unwind. In fact, they just make us lazy in thinking. The Oxford Word of the Year, “brain rot(腐化)”, best sums up(概括) this problem.
But how did we get here And what can we do now
Scrolling (滚动) through these kinds of short videos is like eating snacks (零食). Once we start, it’s hard to stop. It’s an easy way to kill time. Instead of going outside or trying a new hobby, many of us just stay on the sofa, staring (盯着看) at our phones.
However, this “easy fun” comes at a price. The more time we spend online, the less real-life joy we experience. While we are having a “good” time on some popular apps, we miss the wonders of the real world. Over time, we feel like our lives are getting more and more boring.
It’s time to bring back “real fun”. Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature. Breathe (呼吸) in the fresh air. Walk in the warm sunlight. Listen to birds singing to brighten your day. Just don’t let your screens control your free time and don’t leave your brain “rotting”!

C. The text leads us to breathe in the fresh air.
D. It encourages us to enjoy our holiday.

Travel is like a box of chocolates. You won’t know what you’re going to get, especially when you choose blind box (盲盒) travel.
Earlier this year, blind box travel became very popular among young people in China. What is blind box travel If you don’t like to make plans and you are interested in the unknown journeys, you may choose to buy a blind box plane ticket at a low price, usually 100 or 200 yuan. Then you will receive some places to choose. They can be busy cities, quiet beaches, or mountain villages. But these places are usually less popular ones. Once you pick a place, send your personal information to the airline. Then you can start your journey.
Mr Cheng, in his 30s, is not a big fan of making plans. He says, “I’d like to try the blind box travel. It’s really difficult to decide which place to go, and the plane tickets are too expensive. If I choose the blind box travel, I can choose from some places which are not so well-known at a low cost.”
Unlike Cheng, 22-year-old Sun is not sure of the blind box travel “I like to plan in advance. Getting everything ready makes me not worried. I really don’t like the feeling of losing control,” Mrs Sun says.
It’s like a surprise–you never know where you’ll end up with a blind box ticket. It could be the place you want to go, or it may not be. Would you like to give it a try

After college, I started working in an office and began to gain weight (增重). I would eat sweet bread and drink coffee on my way to work. I loved to eat snacks during work. I went out for lunch every day and ate a lot after work. Within two years, I gained about 34 kilograms. I was always unhappy with my body and felt uncomfortable in it.
I needed some help from my parents and my workmates, but I failed. In September 2012, I went to a work event. The host asked us to write down the 10 happiest and saddest things in our lives so far that year. I couldn’t think of anything happy, but I wrote down 15 sad things that made all friends amazed. Most of them had something to do with my weight or my lack of confidence. That day, I knew I had to make a change.
The next day, I started my weight-loss journey. I tried to change one small thing every day. For example, I added skim milk instead of creamer (咖啡伴侣) to my coffee. I started to make healthy lunches at home and bring them to work. Slowly, I adapted (适应) to a diet of mostly lean meats (瘦肉) and vegetables.
At the same time, I started exercising daily. I would, for example, take the stairs instead of the lift. I also started working out at the gym and at home.
After three years, I finally lost more than 30 kilograms of weight.
What’s my biggest piece of advice Don’t wait to feel motivated (有动力的) in order to get started. Start today and make one little change every day. Getting healthy is a lifelong journey and a lifestyle change!

Even on a normal weekday, many people crowd into Kitty Zoo, a pet cafe in Changzhou, Jiangsu. They come here to meet its biggest star, a cute capybara (水豚) named Jilizhazha.
The cafe’s 35-year-old founder (创始人) said that few people kept unusual pets like lizards (蜥蜴) and snakes before. But now, more and more people are keeping exotic pets.
“Exotic pets” are animals that are far different from traditional ones like cats and dogs. On the lifestyle-sharing platform (平台), many people shared their pets like capybaras, raccoons (浣熊) and alpacas (羊驼).
A 23-year-old exotic pet fan started raising raccoons at home in 2024. He posts videos of his raccoons on the Internet and has many followers.
Raising exotic pets can bring special experiences, but we must be careful before bringing these animals home.
The owner of the raccoons said that raccoons are shy and may hurt people when they are afraid, so they need to be socialized from a young age. Although he has raised exotic pets before, he still finds these animals take months to become comfortable with humans. “You need to be patient and work hard,” he explained.
Jilizhazha is very cute, but his fans must remember that every exotic pet needs people to work hard to give them special care.
