Second, choose cool clothing and don’t forget to drink lots of water.
Third, limit your outdoor activities at the hottest time of the day, such as lunchtime.
Finally, take breaks more often if you have to work outdoors, and stop working once you don’t feel good.

Part 2: Safety tips
Group work. Look at the pictures. Discuss how to protect yourself in a heavy thunderstorm and report it to your class.
In a heavy thunderstorm, we should protect ourselves properly. First, stay indoors and close windows, which is a safe choice. Second, don’t ride bikes outside. Also, never stand under trees because lightning often hits tall objects. And we mustn’t use mobile phones when outside in such weather. Remember these tips to stay safe.

Surviving a Rainstorm
Last week, a rainstorm hit my hometown.
I was riding home after school when the dark clouds suddenly gathered. There was a huge noise of thunder ahead and wind began to blow harder and harder. A rainstorm was coming! I remembered learning about this in Mr. Li’s geography class. I stayed away from big trees and rode along a direct passage to the nearest store. The rain started pouring down right after I got inside. After about half an hour, the rain seemed to become lighter, but it was still quite dark outside. I decided to wait. Finally, the rain stopped and the sky cleared up. When I stepped out of the store and saw a few large trees fall on the cars, my face turned pale with fear. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Surviving an Earthquake
Last year, a terrible earthquake hit my hometown.
I was doing homework when I started feeling my desk shake. At first, it was weak. I shouted to my mom,“An earthquake was coming!” and hid under my desk. The shaking quickly became much stronger. I remembered we must stay away from windows and heavy objects. My heart beat fast with fear, but I stayed still.
When it stopped, I decided to run. I told my mom to hurry downstairs before the next shake. Finally, we reached the open ground safely. Later, we learned it was a level 6.4 earthquake. Luckily, no one died and only a few were hurt. It was a dangerous experience that I hope never happens again.
