Alia was very sad. She was sick on the day her classmates chose their classes. She really wanted to take science, but when she finally chose, all the science classes were full. She had to take art instead. Alia loves science because it uses facts and rules to explain the world. She thought art was not scientific at all.
The first task in art class was to draw a picture of themselves. Some students used mirrors, and some used photos. Alia saw her classmates looking at their faces carefully and drawing slowly. She felt she didn't belong there.
The art teacher came to her. "Let's start with a circle for the face," he said kindly. "Then we add lines to help place the eyes, nose, and mouth." He drew a few small faces step by step to show her how. Alia noticed that the eyes, nose, and mouth on all the faces were in almost the same places.
Alia started her own drawing, feeling a little nervous. She found it interesting to measure (测量) where to put her eyes and mouth. She drew the head shape first, then used lines to add the face. She had to be very careful with every small part. One wrong line could ruin (破坏) the whole picture.
Alia was surprised. Drawing needed a lot of work. It needed measuring, noticing small things, and showing what something is really like. She began to think that art could be a little like science. Art had its own rules and steps, too. When the project was over, Alia was happy about this new experience. It helped her see art differently.

We can see circles, squares and triangles (三角形) everywhere in our daily life. Have you thought about their meanings in films Much like colors, different shapes can show different features (特征) of characters in the scenes.
Circles represent (代表) things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, raindrops and so on. We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies' round faces... All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is why so many cartoon characters' bodies—heroes, good people—are round in shape, because circles represent goodness, happiness and friendliness.
Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned. For example, in the cartoon film Up, Carl has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters' personalities. Carl is stubborn and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy.
The angriest shape is the triangle. Every kid who draws a monster with sharp teeth draws a row of triangles, don't they That's because the shape represents fear, distrust (不信任) and doubt in some way. Look at the bad guys in cartoons—they are all drawn with plenty of points and triangles, like Shengongbao in Ne Zha. And triangles are stable (稳固的) and don't easily fall down. In films, this feature makes bad people difficult to deal with.
Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. So, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like.

A. To introduce him.
B. To make kids afraid.
C. To show he was probably a bad person.
D. To show the difficulties to deal with him.
34.What can we infer from the passage
A. Round shapes suit good characters.
B. Triangles are kids' favorite.
C. Squares are better for heroes.
D. Shapes are just for fun.
35.What is the text mainly about
A. Why different shapes represent different things.
B. What makes kids fascinated by heroes in films.
C. What different shapes represent in different films.
D. How cartoons make different colors and shapes.

Do you know that there may be hundreds of magnets in your home Where are they You can't see most of them. But they're inside your telephone, hair dryer and computer. And most of the electricity that runs these things comes from magnetism.
Magnetism is a force that can't be seen. This force only pulls on some metals, such as the doors of the cars or simply the keys, but it will not pull on the paper, or on the wood, either. Magnetism flows (流动) through a magnet. It goes in one end and out the other. These two ends are the north and south poles (极). The force flows out the north pole and back in the south pole. You can use two magnets to feel magnetism. The north pole of one magnet will attract the south pole of the other one. Try to push the two north poles together, and you will find it is not easy! Two north poles will always repel each other. So will two south poles.
Magnets are used in many fields. One bank card can have millions of magnets. These magnets are tiny. Each tiny magnet points in its own direction. The different directions of the magnets make a code (代码). Computers read the code. Putting a bank card near a powerful magnet can mess up or remove the code. Magnets are used to suspend (悬浮) some high-speed trains above the tracks. Instead of having wheels like regular trains, these trains in China actually fly as they travel. They travel at a top speed of about 267 miles (430 km) per hour. This makes for a fast, smooth ride.
Doctors use a very powerful magnet to look inside a person's body. It helps doctors see the inside illness of the patients without having to cut them open.
Magnets are fun. They're also really useful. Every time you watch television or even turn on a light, you are using magnets.

It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents.
41 They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they won't give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children's trust and they always forget how they themselves felt when young. 42 It is one of their ways to show they have grown up and that they can face any difficult situations. However, adults worry more easily and most of them plan things ahead.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble. They just feel cut off from the adults world, and have not yet been accepted into their world. 43 By doing so, they will feel pleased or even proud even if their parents do not like their music, entertainment, clothes or their way of speech.
Sometimes young people are so proud of themselves that they do not want their parents to say yes to what they do. 44 It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when they were completely under their parents' control.
45 Parents should treat their children as independent individuals. And young people need to communicate with their parents from time to time to narrow the gap between them. If young people have a high sense of responsibility, their parents are certainly glad to see them do what they like to.
A. A good parent-child relationship is based on mutual (相互的) respect. B. All they want is to be left alone and do what they like. C. Parents shouldn't be too serious and strict with their children. D. For example, young people like to act without much thinking. E. That's why young people want to make a new culture of their own. F. Young people will purposely do something to make their parents angry. G. They say that their parents fail to understand them.

Dear Tom,
I'm sorry to hear that you're facing so much frustration in your studies and want to give up. But please remember: frustration is a normal part of learning, not a sign that you're not good enough. Every great achievement is built on overcoming difficulties, and these hard moments will make you stronger in the end.
Here are my suggestions for you. First, break your big goals into small, manageable tasks, so you can feel a sense of progress step by step. Second, don't be afraid to ask your teachers or classmates for help when you get stuck—they're always willing to lend a hand. Third, take regular breaks to relax, like doing sports or listening to music, to avoid burnout.
I believe you can get through this hard e on!
Yours,
Li Hua
