第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分 50 分)
第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Best Inventions of the Past Year
Every year, our magazine releases a list of the year’s best inventions. Which one will be your top choice
Weather intelligence
Weather forecasting systems can serve people well, but they are not perfect. Atlas, a network of durable (耐用
的) weather balloons developed by a climate technology company, was made to solve this problem. The balloons
measure temperature, wind speed and other factors. Then Atlas uses an AI model to make more accurate forecasts,
giving people more time to prepare for severe weather.
Beat the bite
Are you easily bitten by mosquitoes Studies show heat can ease the pain and itching (发痒) from mosquito
bites. Heat It is a chemical-free device for treating bites. It can be attached to a key chain and connected to a
smartphone. Users place it on the bite to heat the skin gently. A phone app helps control temperature and treatment
time for the best result.
Robot roommate
Do you want a robot to do housework Figure 03, a humanoid robot, is designed for factories, businesses and
homes. By October, it could finish some household tasks, such as folding clothes and loading a dishwasher (though
a human needs to start the machine and help if it drops items). The company hopes to put an upgraded version into
some homes in 2026.
Non-browning bananas
A brown, mushy (糊状的) banana is really unpleasant. To extend its shelf life and cut down food waste, a UK
company created the non-browning banana. This kind of banana stays fresh for at least 12 hours after being peeled
(去皮). The company is now developing bananas that stay green longer and can resist a disease harming banana
crops in many countries.
21. What is the main function of Atlas
A. To carry plenty of weather balloons. B. To deliver sharper weather forecast.
C. To record daily highest wind speeds. D. To adjust the heat in weather balloons.
22. How does Heat It help people deal with mosquito bites
A. By using chemicals to stop itching. B. By cooling the skin around the bite.
C. By applying heat to the affected area. D. By sending warnings through a smartphone.
23. Which of the following is independent of AI assistance
A. Heat It. B. Atlas. C. Figure 03. D. The non-browning banana.
B
I thought I grew up as the world’s shyest child... literally. At my 9th grade graduation party from my little
rural school, I was invited to give a speech to my 25 or so classmates. Though I had heard numerous speeches
before, I had no idea how to deliver one myself. From the time of the invitation to speak up until that moment on
the stage, I was, in fact, horrified to the point of being almost physically ill.
I wrote out about 13 lines of stuff on an index card and memorized it. When I got to about the second line, I
totally forgot the remainder. I sat down, utterly humiliated (丢脸的). I promised to myself that I would never feel
that way again. When I reached high school, I noticed speech classes were offered. I would have dropped out of
school rather than have had to take one of those classes.
Things changed when I was called in as a last-minute replacement for the scheduled wedding host, Tommy,
who was suffering a severe cold. Of course, I had to stand before sizeable audience to speak, but I was still the
same shy guy. When I tried to figure out whether Tommy had ever felt nervous. The spontaneous (自发的) reply
that came from his mouth amazed me: “Not really. It’s not about me. What I have to say is more important than my
feelings.” Miracles did happen to me, and the potential for humiliation was no longer central in my mind. My
delivery and fear-level have improved since then.
I always appreciate the truth of Tommy’s words: when you changed what you told yourself about public
speaking, your feelings about it changed as well and that weight inside you just lifts. Today, although basically still
shy, I can stand with ease before any size crowd and boldly, effectively, articulately, and convincingly pronounce
what I have to say.
24. Why did the author feel horrified before giving the speech
A. He was forced to speak by his teacher. B. He had been weak in memorizing lines.
C. He was too frightened to speak in public. D. He had been physically ill for a long time.
25. How did the author react to the speech class offered in high school
A. He considered taking it as a challenge. B. He was extremely unwilling to take it.
C. He decided to drop out of school to avoid it. D. He felt it would help him overcome shyness.
26. What made the author change his attitude towards public speaking
A. Tommy’s training of him in public speaking. B. His successful experience as a wedding host.
C. His determination never to feel shamed again. D. Tommy’s words about the purpose of speaking.
27. What message does the author mainly convey in the text
A. Look outward, not inward. B. Once bitten, twice shy.
C. Well begun is half done. D. Practice makes perfect.
C
Climate-driving migration (迁徙) is often viewed as a modern crisis, but history tells a different story. An
interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Basel has shown that large-scale environmental
instability shaped societies more than a thousand years ago.
Their study examined how severe hydrological (水 文 学 的 ) extremes such as prolonged droughts and
destructive floods in the late Tang Dynasty influenced political stability in China. The research focused on northern
China, particularly the region surrounding the Yellow River, an area central to agriculture, transportation, and
political power.
To understand how the climate shifted during this critical period, scientists turned to natural archives (档案)
— tree rings. In wetter years, sufficient rainfall allows trees to grow more quickly, producing wider rings. In dry
years, growth slows, leaving narrower rings. The longer a tree lives, the further back this environmental record
extends, offering a detailed timeline of past climate conditions. The team relied on long-term tree ring datasets
from the Yellow River basin to reconstruct historical runoff (径流量) patterns, which directly affected farming.
Their findings revealed that a rise in severe weather events played a part in the fall of the Tang Dynasty in 907
CE. More frequent droughts and floods placed intense pressure on the soldiers responsible for defending the
frontiers, as well as on their families. Crop failures became common due to extreme weather. With shortages
mounting, supply routes collapsing, and hunger spreading, many people migrated south in search of better
conditions, leading to political destabilization and contributing to the Tang Dynasty’s fall.
However, the study’s first author Michael Kempf emphasizes,“Our results are approximations (近似值). The
actual conditions at that time cannot be reconstructed with certainty. It’s a complex interplay of many different
factors.” The study concluded that environmental phenomena and their consequences can disrupt social structures
and destabilize political systems. This is a development that could occur more frequently in view of climate change
today.
28. What is the main purpose of the study
A. To question tree rings for climate research. B. To predict the potential new climate crises.
C. To link climate change to political changes. D. To analyse the reason for ancient migration.
29. How did the researchers get climate data of the Tang Dynasty
A. By studying ancient trees’ growth patterns. B. By surveying the ancient migration routes.
C. By analyzing official historical documents. D. By examining the remains of ancient crops.
30. What did the research find about the role of climate in the late Tang Dynasty
A. It was the major reason for the dynasty’s collapse.
B. It physically destroyed most of its frontier defence.
C. It directly resulted in the weakening of the dynasty.
D. It set off a chain of events causing the dynasty’s fall.
31. What does Michael Kempf think of the findings
A. They overstate environmental roles. B. They are estimates and require care.
C. They ignore Tang’s social structures. D. They are accurate and widely applicable.
D
In an age dominated by digital media and rapidly advancing technology, online platforms now provide instant
access to vast amounts of content, making information readily available at the click of a button. Despite this digital
convenience, reading books in printed form remains fundamental and irreplaceable.
Reading printed books is far from a diminishing practice as it offers several advantages over digital formats.
Reading printed materials is associated with health benefits, including reduced eye strain and improved sleep
patterns compared to prolonged screen use. Research and experience alike show that reading from paper reduces
digital distractions such as notifications, hyperlinks, and screen glare, allowing readers to focus more deeply on the
content. This sustained attention helps readers better understand narratives and concepts and enhances long-term
memory.
It is important to acknowledge that modern technology has revolutionized how people read. E-books and
online learning platforms have made countless written works accessible to a broader audience, including those who
may not easily access physical libraries. While some readers still cherish the tangible feel of turning pages, others
appreciate the convenience of digital formats.
Nevertheless, the continued demand for printed books demonstrates that physical reading materials still hold
great value. Online vendors now make it easier than ever to purchase new or second-hand books, which can be
delivered directly to readers’ homes. Libraries also continue to play a vital role in promoting reading culture.
Although many readers physically visit libraries, online catalogues (目录) have become essential tools for locating
specific books efficiently. These digital systems help readers save time and avoid confusion when searching
through shelves, showing that technology can complement (补足) rather than replace printed books.
In today’s fast-paced world, countless distractions compete for people’s attention. Smartphones, streaming
services, podcasts, and the pressures of daily life often leave little room for sustained reading. Yet, whether bound
in paper or stored digitally, reading remains powerful, serving as gateways to knowledge, promoting education,
growth, and progress in society.
32. What does the underlined word “diminishing” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Confusing B. Fading. C. Fashionable. D. Comfortable.
33. What can be inferred from paragraph 4
A. Library visits have become unnecessary.
B. Book delivery services are losing popularity.
C. Digital tools may facilitate access to physical books.
D. Online catalogues have replaced traditional shelving.
34. What might the author intend to do in the last paragraph
A. Advocate reading regardless of its ways. B. Advise people to avoid daily distractions.
C. Resist digital books despite their convenience. D. Compare physical books and the digital ones.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Health Benefits of Reading Printed Books
B. How Libraries Are Adapting to New Technology
C. Digital Media: Distracting Most People from Reading
D. Printed Books: Holding Their Ground in a Digital Age

Achieving success is not merely a matter of luck or talent. 36 Here are some basic principles that
people of achievement live by and you can apply them starting today.
People of achievement create an environment that breeds (孕育) success. That means that you shouldn’t keep
company with negative people, read information made for the masses, eat unhealthy food, or the like. 37
Instead, communicate with those with similar goals, read biographies of successful people, go to places that
increase your energy, and take care of your health. All that is part of the person you’ re trying to become.
People of achievement don’t listen to naysayers (反 对 者 ). There will be at least a few people in your
surroundings that will tell you that your goal is not worth pursuing, that what you’ re doing is crazy, and that your
idea is impossible. 38 Successful people maintain an unwavering belief in their abilities and direction,
even when faced with doubt or criticism from others.
39 If you avoid learning new stuff, you’ re only getting further from success. But prosperous people,
hard-working entrepreneurs, high achievers and outstanding artists all constantly learn new things. They learn from
others, from the past, reading, and travelling and get to know themselves more. That helps them go beyond
themselves every day.
People of achievement work smarter. The average person wastes a lot of time daily doing meaningless things
like overthinking, feeling sorry for himself, being lazy and more. Highly productive individuals get better at time
management, eliminate anything that’s not productive, wake up earlier, stop multitasking, delegate (把……委托给)
and automate what they can and have more time to do what matters. 40
A. It’s rooted in intentional choices in life.
B. People of achievement don’t make excuses.
C. People of achievement are all students of life.
D. They appreciate what’s around them right now.
E. It’s about doing the right things, not just doing more.
F. Your job is to ignore that and focus on your vision instead.
G. All those affect your judgment, energy levels, health, and success.

That Saturday morning was supposed to be mine. I should have been seeing a movie with my friends or just
lying on the couch scrolling through videos on my phone. But Dad had other plans. He woke me up early and told
me to help him clip (修剪) trees and bushes on our farm land. I wasn’t happy about it at all. Such farm work
seemed so boring compared to hanging out with friends or watching funny clips at home.
My job was simple but endless: load the wheelbarrow (手推车) with clippings and throw them into the big
trash bin. I worked slowly, without enthusiasm, and kept checking my phone every few minutes, wishing the time
would pass faster. But the piles of branches never seemed to get smaller — no sooner had I cleared one pile than
another mountain of branches appeared. Every time I came back, Dad had cut more. He just kept cutting, moving
from one bush to the next, having no intention of stopping. I was sweating and tired, and my patience was running
out fast.
When the trash bin was finally full, I felt relieved. I assumed we were done for the day. But then Dad walked
over to another section and picked up his tools. That was the last straw and I threw my gloves on the ground hard
enough for him to hear. Dad stopped cutting and looked at me for a moment. He didn’t yell or get mad, but just
wiped his forehead and said quietly, “Go back home, son. I’ll finish up myself here.”
Upon hearing that, I walked away quickly, feeling free at last. As I walked down the driveway, about one mile
away, I looked back at my father, seeing he was struggling to position the ladder all by himself.

参考范文:
Looking at this scene, my feet felt heavy. I started thinking how Dad was always at work and how I was always
busy with school since I started high school. When was the last time we had actually done something together, just
the two of us My footsteps slowed, then stopped entirely. I stood there for a minute, then turned around and
walked back. When Dad saw me coming, he looked surprised. Then he smiled — a real smile that lit up his face.
“Changed your mind ” he asked. I just nodded and picked up my gloves.
We worked together in the following time. This time, I didn’t check my phone once. We talked about school,
about his job, about neighbors dogs that kept digging up our yard. Dad told me stories about when he was my age
that I’d never heard before. The work went faster with two of us, but I wasn’t in a hurry anymore. By the time we
finished, we were both covered in dirt and leaves, but I felt good. That Saturday didn’t turn out how I planned, but
it became something better — a simple afternoon with my dad that I still remember clearly.
