Couchsurfing (沙发客) is a service that connects members to a global community of travelers. Use Couchsurfing to find a place to stay or share your home and hometown with travelers. The following is how it works.
Create a profile
Completely fill out your Couchsurfing profile! This will be your home base and is a reflection of you: your lifestyle and what’s important to you. Here you can tell people if you’re traveling or would like to host. Be sure to include photos. Don’t have a profile yet Please click Sign Up Now.
Explore your city
Getting in touch with experienced Couchsurfers in your area is the best way to get a feel for how Couchsurfing works. Just head to your city’s Place Page and look at the weekly events happening near you. Click “Join”, show up and you’re on your way!
Surf the world
If you’re ready for an adventure, search for the city you plan to visit and look for locals with couches available. Look through profiles to find people you might want to stay with. When you find a few interesting potential hosts, carefully review their profile and send a Couchrequest for the dates you’ll be there. We usually recommend sending about five Couchrequests.
List your couch
Once you’ve explored the site and have been to an event or two, consider making your couch, spare room or air bed available to travelers. Set your couch status under Couch Information. You can set it to “Not Right Now” if you want to be available as a city resource for travelers but are unable to host. You can set it to “No” if you’re not available or don’t have any extra space, or “Maybe/Yes” to show up in search results for travelers who are planning a trip to your area.
21. What should you do with your profile
A. Post it online. B. Submit it to your hosts.
C. Carry it to weekly events. D. Keep it at home.
22. What is the purpose of the step “Explore your city”
A. To find potential couch providers.
B. To know more about one’s own city.
C. To communicate with other couchsurfers.
D. To join a tour group to the same destination.
23. What does setting your couch status to “Maybe/Yes” mean
A. You are planning to take a trip.
B. You are ready to host travelers.
C. Your couchsurfing request is confirmed.
D. Your profile can appear in search results.

From the “Sultan of Swat” to the “Colossus of Clout,” no baseball player has been given more eye-catching names than Babe Ruth. But there’s one name for the legendary Babe you might not know: cancer (癌症) pioneer.
Ruth, born in February 1895, was the widely known king of baseball by his 30th birthday. By 1925, he had won four World Series and established himself as the sport’s most fearsome hitter.
But he was also famous as a heavy eater when he wasn’t on the field. On April 7, 1925, on the way to a game, Ruth told teammates he felt unwell and passed out. Later he had operations to remove one part of his intestine (肠道).
Less than a decade later, Ruth found himself back at the hospital in an even more terrible situation and was told he had cancer. Later that year, doctors suggested that Ruth take part in a medical test for an experimental drug (药物), which had only been tested on mice. Ruth, who didn’t want to know what drug he was receiving or why, agreed, making him one of the first patients anywhere to receive the special treatment.
Even though Ruth only lived another year, the method did lengthen his life, which was regarded a milestone in medicine. By 1998, 40 percent of patients with the same kind of cancer that Ruth developed, had a survival rate of five or more years.
Thanks to Ruth and other patients in the study, treatments are much more effective and specific today. “I realized that if anything was learned about that type of treatment, whether good or bad,” Ruth wrote in his book, “it would be of use in the future to the medical profession and maybe to a lot of people with my same trouble.”
24. What do Ruth’s many titles show
A. His professional struggles. B. His personal experience.
C. His widespread popularity. D. His medical contributions.
25. What does the author suggest about Ruth’s health problem in 1925
A. It led to his cancer battle. B. It was related to his eating habits.
C. It was solved by an operation. D. It resulted from the game stress.
26. What can be inferred about the cancer treatment Ruth got
A. It was widely used on humans.
B. It was forced upon him against his will.
C. It lengthened his life by over five years.
D. It made a difference to later cancer patients.
27. Which of the following can best describe Babe Ruth
A. Selfless and brave. B. Patient and helpful.
C. Gifted and determined. D. Hopeful and confident.

A study conducted by Cornell University examined how the use of AI in conversations impacts the way people express themselves and view each other.
The researchers have found people have more efficient conversations, use more positive language and perceive each other more positively when using an AI-enabled chat tool.
However, the group also found that when participants think their partner is using more AI-suggested responses, they consider that partner as less cooperative.
“I was surprised to find people tend to evaluate you more negatively simply because they suspect you’re using AI to help compose text, regardless of whether you actually are,” said Jess Hohenstein, the lead researcher. “This illustrates the continuous overall doubt that people seem to have around AI.”
For their first experiment, participants were asked to talk about a policy issue and assigned to one of three conditions: both participants can use smart replies; only one participant can use smart replies; or neither participant can use smart replies. Researchers found that using smart replies increased communication efficiency, positive emotional language and positive evaluations by communication partners. On average, smart replies accounted for 14.3% of sent messages.
But participants whose partners suspected of responding with smart replies were evaluated more negatively than those who were thought to have typed their own responses, consistent with common assumptions about the negative implications of AI.
“While AI might be able to help you write,” Hohenstein said, “it’s altering your language in ways you might not expect, especially by making you sound more positive. This suggests that by using text-generating AI, you’re giving up some of your own personal voice.”
Malte Jung, an associate professor, said, “What we observe in this study is the impact that AI has on social dynamics and some of the unintended consequences that could result from integrating AI in social contexts. This suggests that whoever controls the algorithm (算法) may have influence on people’s interactions, language and insights into each other.”
28. How do the researchers draw their conclusion
A. By analyzing figures. B. By making use of AI.
C. By conducting experiments. D. By completing questionnaires.
29. Which statement does Hohenstein agree with
A. AI always expresses in ways you expect.
B. Algorithm will never influence people’s insights.
C. Trust can be affected by using AI in conversation.
D. You will regain your voice by using AI in conversation.
30. How will a person feel about suspecting his partner’s using smart replies
A. Nervous. B. Uncomfortable. C. Excited. D. Puzzled.
31. What is the text mainly about
A. Methods of using AI in conversations. B. Efficiency of using AI in conversations.
C. Convenience of using AI in conversations. D. Impacts of using AI in conversations.
D
Animals and plants also live and thrive on public squares. This creates opportunities for greater biodiversity and well-being for the human population. Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have studied at 103 locations in Munich how various factors affect flora and fauna (动植物). They advocate a close examination of local conditions and a more nature-focused approach to the design of public spaces.
Together with his team, Wolfgang Weisser, Professor of Terrestrial Ecology at TUM, looked at such factors as size, the occurrence of lawn, plant and tree growth, artificial light sources and green in the surroundings of the 103 public squares in Munich. The squares varied from almost entirely sealed (封闭的) to park-like squares.
Their results show, with Munich as an example, how greatly the different spaces can differ in the animals and other organisms that can live there. At the heavily sealed Marienplatz, the researchers counted only 20 species, with just one bird and moss species as well as insects and bat species. Meanwhile, at Pfrontener Platz, a space with lawns, bushes and trees, they found 156 taxa, including 21 different kinds of birds. At Johannisplatz, 118 species are present, as it has trees, hedges and some grassy areas despite being sealed to a relatively large extent.
Unsurprisingly, more plants are beneficial to many animal species. This is a factor that urban planning models already take into account. However, the study also shows that lawns, trees and bushes vary widely in terms of the diversity and numbers of the species they attract. So far, public spaces are designed with humans in mind, with little consideration to animals and other species.
The researchers concluded that the chances for greater biodiversity are increased if, instead of applying the same patterns to every location, planners take into account the local conditions and the needs of different species. To encourage more bee species, for example, they should not only plant nectar-bearing flowers, but also provide open space as habitat for bees and a source of nest-building material.
32. What does the study at TUM focus on
A. The best locations for flora and fauna.
B. Factors to be considered in square design.
C. The impact of local conditions on biodiversity.
D. The best way for humans and flora and fauna to get along.
33. What can we know from paragraph 3
A. Animals expand in sealed parks. B. Open parks support more biodiversity.
C. Open parks are not fit for birds to stay. D. Closed parks are as good as open ones.
34. What does the study say about urban greenery
A. It varies in attracting species. B. It will replace artificial lights.
C. It has nothing to do with species. D. It is well planned in urban buildings.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. Enhancing Urban Development: Considering Local Species’ Needs
B. Human-animal Coexistence: Integrating Nature into City Designing
C. Urban Ecosystems: Challenges for Plants and Animals in Urban Spaces
D. Biodiversity in the City: Designing Urban Spaces for Humans and Animals

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a rainy afternoon in April. I was looking through the attic (阁楼) for Grandma’ s old albums when my hand touched a dusty violin box hidden behind winter jackets. When I opened it, the violin brought back memories of nights when Dad used to play soft songs for me after work. Now, the violin’s strings hung loose, and its once-shiny wood looked old after years of being unused.
Downstairs, Dad’s key turned in the lock right at 6:15 pm. His work boots left dirty marks on the doormat. I saw him rubbing (揉) his right hand — he’ d hurt it last winter when he was at work. He looked up at the attic stairs. “Did you find anything cool up there ” he asked, his rough fingers tapping out a tune (旋律) on the kitchen table. “Dad, it’s nothing important really, just some old stuff up there!” I said.
Dad stopped going for his music scholarship when Mom got really sick. He went from playing in concerts to working in a factory. Every birthday, he’d say, “Maybe next year,” but then he’d quietly add, “after we pay the hospital bills.” It hit me that his dream wasn’t gone, but just silenced.
My mind raced with a flood of thoughts. Here was this violin, once a symbol of Dad’s passion and talent, now gathering dust in the attic. And here was Dad, his own dream of music buried beneath the weight of family responsibilities, his hand still aching from the injury that had kept him away from his true passion.
A wave of determination washed over me. I couldn’t change the past, but I could do something about the present. I could fix up this violin, not just as a physical restoration (修复), but as a symbol of hope and a bridge to reconnect Dad with his forgotten dreams.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: By summer, I decided to work as an apprentice (学徒) at Mr. Kowalski’s music store.
