清 明 节
The Qingming Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It is believed to
have a history of about 2,500 years. Over the centuries, Chinese people
have developed colorful traditions, like flying kites, eating cold food and
going on spring outings. The most important tradition of the festival is
sweeping tombs(扫墓).

The Qingming Festival usually falls on April 4 or 5. It fell on April 4 in
2025. On April 3, a middle school in Suzhou held a special activity for
students-a hike to Suzhou Martyrs’ Cemetery(苏州烈士陵园). At 6:30
in the morning, more than 2,000 teachers and students set off from the
starting point. They hiked for 20 kilometers until they reached Suzhou
Martyrs’ Cemetery. When they arrived there, they swept tombs and offered
flowers to pay their respects to the revolutionary martyrs(革命烈士).

Starting in 1995, the 20-kilometer hike is a traditional ideological and
political class(思政课) of the school. “We hope students can not only
learn about the revolutionary martyrs from books, but also experience and
touch history on the spot(实地),” the school’s headmaster said.
“Although it has been a difficult trip, I would like to say that what I
did is very meaningful,” said Zhao Mingyu, a student from Grade 8. “I
deeply realize that we can’t live a happy life today without the revolutionary
martyrs.”

Qingming Festival?

C (2025 苏州工业园区期中)
A few months ago, a friend noticed the state of my kitchen floor and
decided to have a hand in this. She gifted me a robotic mop. It was
programmed to move around a room and clean it up.
When the box arrived, I held back at the sight of the iRobot logo,
thinking that the robot might try to spy(秘密监视) on me by collecting my
personal information, my data along with my dog’s hair. But the
instructions were simple, and I finally decided that I didn’t really care if
someone was interested in studying the secrets of my kitchen floor.

I turned on the robot and watched it roll out of its dock to clean the
room. I kept showing my guests how it worked. “I think you care more
about the robot-mop than us,” one of my teens joked.
Then one day I returned home and found that my robot was missing.
Our terrace(露台) door was open and the robot-mop had rolled into the
backyard. It was working hard on cleaning the edge of the flower beds.
Even as its brushes became stuck with leaves and mud, its little wheels kept
on turning round quickly.

It brought home to me the bad points of AI. The robot-mop was acting
as it was designed to clean “dirty” things. But the whole point about dirt,
as the anthropologist(人类学家) Mary Douglas once noted, is that it is
best described as “matter out of place”. In a kitchen, dirt might come in
the form of leaves and mud. In a garden, the dirt is “in place”.

It is certain that robots have ever more powerful intelligence(智力).
“This AI tech is powerful and is going to be transformative(具有变革性
的), so we need to get ahead,” said Eric Schmidt, who was once the
head of Google. He also says that soon we will not only see AI-enabled
robots designed to figure problems out according to instructions; but those
with “general intelligence” too. They might have the ability to deal with
new problems they are not asked to solve by learning from each other.
People like Schmidt think that AI will completely change health care,
education and much else.
As for me, I’ll just keep my terrace door shut.

( C )18. How did the author feel at the first sight of the robotic mop?
A. Curious. B. Pleasant.
C. Worried. D. Uninterested.
( A )19. What does the phrase “brought home to me” in Paragraph
5 mean?
A. Let me understand. B. Made me feel relaxed.
C. Took me back home. D. Helped itself know me.
C
A

( D )20. In Eric Schmidt’s opinion, what might future AI be able to
do?
A. It can spy on people by collecting information and data.
B. It can easily roll into the backyard and mop up flower beds.
C. It can work out problems better and faster than human beings.
D. It can solve unexpected problems by learning from each other.
D

( C )21. Which of the following might the writer agree with?
A. AI-enabled robots will have the ability to do all the cleaning up in the
future.
B. We must pay more attention to preventing AI from spying on human
beings.
C. AI has some weaknesses and it is not sure whether it can be improved
soon.
D. AI should be used across industries, including health care, education
and more.

Jo was the first to wake. She remembered her mother’s promise,
putting her hand under her pillow(枕头), and drew out a little red-
covered book. She woke Meg up and asked her to see what was under her
pillow. A green-covered book appeared. Then Beth and Amy woke to find
their little books.

“Girls,” said Meg seriously, “Mom wants us to read and love
these books, and we must begin at once.” And then they opened the new
books and read quietly as the winter sunshine shone in to touch the serious
faces with a Christmas greeting.
“Where is Mother?” asked Meg, as she ran down to thank her for
their gifts, half an hour later. “Some poor people came for help before
you woke up, and Mrs. March went to see what was needed,” replied
their servant, Hannah.

“She will be back soon, so we must get everything ready,” said
Meg, looking over the presents for their mother in a basket. “Where is
Amy’s bottle of perfume(香水)?” she wondered. “She took it out a
minute ago,” replied Jo. “There’s Mother. Hide the basket,
quickly!” cried Jo, as the door opened and steps sounded in the hall.

Amy hurried in, ashamed(羞愧的) when she saw her sisters all
waiting for her. “Where have you been, and what’s that behind you?”
asked Meg in surprise. “I felt ashamed of my gift, so I ran to the shop and
changed the little bottle for a big one with all my money, and I’m not going
to be selfish anymore.”

Another bang of the street door sent the girls to the table, ready for
their breakfast. After saying Merry Christmas to each other, their mom
said, “Not far from here lies a poor woman with a little newborn baby.
They were really hungry and cold, having waited for nearly an hour. My
girls, will you give them your breakfast as a Christmas present?”
For a minute no one spoke, then Jo said, “Mom, I’m so glad you
came before we began!” And the girls quickly began to put their breakfast
in the basket.

六、 阅读表达。(共3小题;54题2分,55题2分,56题3分,满分7分)
请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题。
When I was a little kid, I thought my dad knew everything. I would
ask him all kinds of questions, like how the moon worked or how to play a
model plane. He always had the answer. During my teenage years, he
taught me useful skills, like how to drive a car and simple car care, such
as checking the tire(轮胎).

As I got older, I moved out on my own, I often called him when
something in my flat went wrong, like the toilet, the light and the air-
conditioner(空调). However, after getting married, my husband knew
a great deal about fixing household problems. At other times, the Internet
became a quick helper. So, I called my dad less and our calls were really
short. I don’t know when it happened, but our phone calls became just six
words. Me: “Hi, Dad.” Him: “Hi, sweet. Here’s Mom.”
Because I still needed Mum for help, like asking advice about looking after
my sick children or cooking tastier chicken soup.

Last summer, when our house was being redecorated, we lived with
my parents for a while. Dad asked me to help him in rebuilding the ceiling of
the attic(阁楼). As we worked, I was amazed by his skills. How could
he be so skillful at this job? When I asked him, he said he’d done this
during a college summer. I’d thought I knew all about him, but I was
wrong. I suddenly understood that I used to keep asking Mum and Dad
wrong questions all along. Now, I talk to them because I truly want to,
not just out of need.

54. During the teenage years, what did the writer’s father teach her?

55. Why did the writer call her father less and less?

Some useful skills, like how to drive a car and simple car care, such
as checking the tire.
Because her husband knew a great deal about household problems and
the Internet could also give help.
56. Please make up a question that the writer truly wants to ask. Give your
reasons.

“What are you busy doing these days?”. Because it can help keep
them closer.(言之有理即可)

七、 (2025 原创)书面表达。(共1题;满分25分)
  你校English Reading Club正在组织一次英文小说读书分享会,本周
阅读内容为Little Women(阅读D篇)。请从以下两个标题中任选一个,
写一篇英文读后感。
选择一:以 Kindness is the best Christmas gift为题
  选择二:以 Selflessness makes us grow为题
  内容包括: 1. 你对这句话的理解;2. 结合实际生活举例说明;3.
你得到的启发;4. 词数100左右。

Kindness is the best Christmas gift

To me, “Kindness is the best Christmas gift” means true joy comes from helping others, not just getting presents. In the story, the March girls gave their breakfast to a poor family, which was a precious
Christmas gift.
Once, my classmate Lily felt sad because she lost her favorite notebook. I gave her mine and helped her copy notes. Seeing her smile made me happier than receiving a gift.
This teaches me kindness is priceless. We should care about people
around us. A small kind act can warm hearts and make the world better.

Selflessness makes us grow
In my opinion, “Selflessness makes us grow” means giving up
our own needs to help others helps us become better people. Amy in the story changed her small perfume bottle for a big one, showing she
learned to be unselfish.
Last term, our class had a charity sale. I gave away my favorite
storybooks instead of keeping them. Though I felt a little sad at first,
seeing the money help poor kids made me proud.
From this, I know selflessness isn’t losing something. It helps us
learn to care for others and grow into kind, responsible people.

A few months ago , a friend noticed the state of my kitchen floor and decided to have a hand in this. She gifted me a robotic mop. It was programmed to move around a room and clean it up.
When the box arrived , I held back at the sight ofthe iRobot logo,
thinking that the robot might try to spy(秘密监视) on me by collecting my personal information , my data along with my dog’s hair. But the instructions were simple , and I finally decided that I didn’t really care if someone was interested in studying the secrets of my kitchen floor.
I turned on the robot and watched it roll out of its dock to clean the room. I kept showing my guests how it worked. “I think you care more about the robot-mop than us , ” one of my teens joked.
Then one day I returned home and found that my robot was missing.
Our terrace(露台) door was open and the robot-mop had rolled into the backyard. It was working hard on cleaning the edge of the flower beds.
Even as its brushes became stuck with leaves and mud , its little wheels kept on turning round quickly.
It brought home to me the bad points of AI. The robot-mop was acting as it was designed to clean “dirty ” things. But the whole point about dirt, as the anthropologist(人类学家) Mary Douglas once noted , is that it is best described as “matter out of place ”. As I got older , I moved out on my own , I often called him when something in my flat went wrong , like the toilet , the light and the air- conditioner(空调). So , I called my dad less and our calls were really short. I don’t know when it happened , but our phone calls became just six words. Me: “Hi , Dad. ” Him: “Hi , sweet. Here’s Mom. ”
Because I still needed Mum for help , like asking advice about looking after my sick children or cooking tastier chicken soup.

你校English Reading Club正在组织一次英文小说读书分享会,本周阅读内容为Little Women(阅读D篇)。请从以下两个标题中任选一个,写一篇英文读后感。
选择一:以 Kindness is the best Christmas gift为题
选择二:以 Selflessness makes us grow为题
内容包括: 1. 你对这句话的理解;2. 结合实际生活举例说明;3.你得到的启发;4. 词数100左右。
Kindness is the best Christmas gift To me , “Kindness is the best Christmas gift ” means true joy comes from helping others , not just getting presents. In the story , the March girls gave their breakfast to a poor family , which was a precious Christmas gift.
Once , my classmate Lily felt sad because she lost her favorite notebook. I gave her mine and helped her copy notes. Seeing her smile made me happier than receiving a gift.
This teaches me kindness is priceless. We should care about people around us. A small kind act can warm hearts and make the world better.
Selflessness makes us grow In my opinion , “Selflessness makes us grow ” means giving up
our own needs to help others helps us become better people. Amy in the story changed her small perfume bottle for a big one , showing she learned to be unselfish.
Last term , our class had a charity sale. I gave away my favorite storybooks instead of keeping them. Though I felt a little sad at first , seeing the money help poor kids made me proud.
From this , I know selflessness isn’t losing something. It helps us learn to care for others and grow into kind , responsible people.

Kindness is the best Christmas gift为题
