Born in Zambia and raised in Portland, 25-year-old Asùkùlù Songolo is the son of Congolese refugees — a
background that, as he says, has deeply shaped his life choices. In the beginning, Songolo planned to study
international relations at Stanford University with a focus on Africa, followed by law school and a potential career
as a professor of African history. However, his career path took an unexpected turn after spending the summer of
2023 as an intern (实习生) at Marché Noir Lomé-Paris, a French fashion boutique (时装店) in Paris during the
Haute Couture Week.
“I’ve always been interested in clothes. I admired how my parents, aunts, and uncles dressed, and I observed
how people combined and matched different pieces,” Songolo explains. “But I never really saw fashion as a
possible career. During Haute Couture Week, though, seeing people from diverse backgrounds all drawn to the
same brand and viewing fashion as a unifying force made me reconsider.”
Fast-forward three years, Songolo, who has launched his own brand, Luùndo, has fully committed to his
fashion career. The brand combines traditional cultural clothing with modern designs, ranging from casual wear to
tailored suits and dresses. Many of his creations are inspired by Congolese aesthetics (美学), and he aims to create
more opportunities for people to engage with African culture through fashion, describing Luùndo not just as a
brand but as a celebration where people can express their identity and heritage with love.
“My dream is to develop creative industries, starting in Congo and then expanding across Africa. By 2050,
Africa is expected to have the largest youth population in the world, but I don’t think enough is being done to
create jobs for them.” His vision is to establish manufacturing in Congo and generate employment opportunities.
4. What initially influenced Asùkùlù Songolo’s career planning
A. His Congolese refugee family background.
B. His experience at Paris Haute Couture Week.
C. His research on immigrant youth engagement.
D. His interest in clothes and fashion from a young age.
第 4页/共 16页
5. What made Songolo consider fashion as a career during his Paris internship
A. The chance to attend Haute Couture Week.
B. Observing how his family members dressed.
C. The opportunity to work at a fashion boutique.
D. Seeing fashion bond people from diverse backgrounds.
6. What is the main goal of Songolo’s brand, Luùndo
A. To focus only on traditional Congolese clothing.
B. To become the most popular fashion brand globally.
C. To involve people in African culture through fashion.
D. To compete with major international fashion brands.
7. Which of the following can best describe Songolo
A. Still waters run deep. B. Honesty is the best policy.
C. One good turn deserves another. D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.

Classics are the gems (宝石) of the literary world. For years, people have read them to gain knowledge. But
now, an increasing number of people instead enjoy these classics in online video series.
According to a 2023 report by the Chinese short-video platform Douyin, the views for book-related videos
jumped by 65.17 percent year-on-year. As people become busier in competitive social environments, the brief
literary explanations provided in short videos enable some to experience stories from a fresh perspective in fleeting
moments. “I watch them on the subway, in a queue or before bed. Short videos combine text, images and
expressions, providing a better experience than just reading text alone,” a man surnamed Zhang told Xinhua.
The fearsome length and complexity (复杂性 ) of classics are also reasons why some people, especially
teenagers, are turning to literature vloggers (video bloggers) for help. A Dream of Red Mansions is well-known for
its detailed description of Chinese society, colorful characters and poetic language. It explores themes like family,
society and human nature. However, these very qualities make the novel challenging for some students, who find it
boring or even sleep-inducing (困倦的) . “There are so many characters in the novel, which confused me a lot,”
said 12-year-old ShaoXinyan from Hubei. “Some vloggers use a mind map to clearly show their relationship.”
While reading with videos helps many people, some express different opinions and concerns. For Zhang
Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing, reading is a journey in which people form a personal connection with the text,
not just absorbing facts. “Books that inspire my imagination, like fantasy adventures and historical stories, demand
第 5页/共 16页
a deeper connection. Videos, although convenient, can’t fully present the small details of a well-written story,” said
Zhang. Eighteen-year-old Wang Hongjie from Sichuan agreed, saying, “It may decrease readers’ ability to read
independently and think deeply.”
8. Why do more people turn to short videos for classic literature
A. Short videos save time and offer vivid experiences.
B. Classic books are often too out-of-date to be popular.
C. They’re lacking in the motivation of reading completely.
D. Video platforms provide more and more book-related content.
9. What makes A Dream of Red Mansions challenging for some students
A. Its unfamiliar themes and brief description. B. Its focus on ancient social culture in China.
C. Its poetic language and various characters. D. Its unique writing features and target readers.
10. What is Zhang Boren’s opinion on enjoying classics via videos
A. Videos contribute more to inspiring imagination. B. Reading books increases readers’ independence.
C. Reading books for readers is only to absorb facts. D. Videos are unlikely to contain all original details.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. “Watch” the Classics B. “Update” the Videos
C. “Approach” Literature D. “Play” with Vloggers
D
When you picture a farm, do you think of green fields and a big red barn The farms of the future may look
very different from that. That’s because farms do not have to be outside anymore. They also won’t have to be
above ground. In London, 100 feet below the streets there was a huge empty abandoned space. It was unused for
almost 70 years before it was turned into the world’s first underground farm.
Richard Ballard and Steven Dring, founders of the company Growing Underground, thought it would be an
ideal spot to build a hydroponic (水栽的) farm. After all, these types of farms are doing well in other indoor spaces.
Founded in 2015, Growing Underground’s farm grows microgreens and salad leaves using hydroponic
technology that grows plants in water but not soil. In fact, the company said that its hydroponic technology allows
for the perfect pest-free (无害虫的) growing environment.
These methods save 70 percent less water than traditional field agriculture and all the nutrients are kept within
a closed circle system. They can grow the greens all year round because they are not affected by weather or
growing seasons.
第 6页/共 16页
But it is the LED lighting system that is the key to growing food underground. Ballard said, “Already, LEDs
allow the growers to change the flavor of the greens, as their sugars and starches develop differently under different
light spectrums (光谱).”
Right now, the company only sells greens with a lot of leaves because they are the only crops that grow fast
enough to be economically (经济地) feasible but Ballard believes that will change. “As technologies improve, you’
ll see soft fruits, cucumbers, peppers,” he said.
The company’s goal is to keep food local. They say that all of the greens can be in your kitchen within four
hours of being picked. They currently sell to local restaurants and people who live in London, but they hope to be
entering the local retail markets soon.
12. What makes the underground farm possible
A. The perfect environment. B. The great demand for fruits.
C. The hydroponic technology. D. The good weather condition.
13. What is the function of the LED lighting system
A. To get rid of pests. B. To make use of solar energy.
C. To allow greens to grow rapidly. D. To provide various light spectrums.
14. What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 6 probably mean
A. Difficult. B. Common. C. Impossible. D. Achievable.
15. What does the company expect of the underground farm
A. It’ll benefit more customers. B. It’ll be environment-friendly.
C. It’ll keep food fresher for longer. D. It’ll introduce more advanced technologies.

When Jaron Casillas was very young, his parents discovered that he saw the world a bit differently a Texas
sunrise for example.
One morning, Jaron’s mom: was driving him to school beneath an especially spectacular Texas sunrise. She
heard his little voice from the car seat behind her say, “Look, Mommy! Look at the beautiful green sunshine!” She
turned to look at it. The rising sun was so beautiful, flooding the earth with warm and red light. However, Jaron’s
mom was about to cry. “Oh dear, my poor boy,” she thought.
Without delay, the parents rushed Jaron to the hospital for a check- up, which turned out to be color blindness.
第 10页/共 16页
On that fateful day, Jaron’s parents were shocked to learn that their son was color blind — a condition that
affects a person’s ability to see colors in the same way as others. There is no cure, but special glasses can help
individuals like Jaron distinguish between different colors. Unfortunately, these glasses are often too expensive for
most families to afford.
The parents were sad, but Jaron remained calm and even comforted his parents. He saw his condition as
something special and decided to keep it a secret. However, his silence caused him to feel left out when others
talked about colors.
One day, during a class discussion, the teacher, Christina Hayes, asked the students to share a secret about
themselves. Working up his courage, Jaron revealed his condition to his classmates, explaining that he saw gray
instead of colors like purple, green, and blue. When the teacher asked if there was anything that could help him,
Jaron mentioned the special glasses, but noted that they were too expensive for his family.
Hearing Jaron’s words, the teacher fought back tears and praised the boy for his bravery The other students

【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m so glad to hear that you want to travel in China during the winter vacation. I would like to recommend
Sanya to you. It is a beautiful city in Hainan Province, with beautiful beaches, clear blue sky and warm weather.
You can enjoy the sunshine, go swimming and try various water sports there. The Yalong Bay is a must-see place,
where you can see the beautiful sea view and take a lot of nice pictures.
Remember to bring your sunscreen and hat to protect yourself from the sun. And it’s better to book a hotel in
advance to avoid trouble. I hope you have a great time in China!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分 25 分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Paragraph 1:
After class, Jaron’s classmates privately approached Hayes. They wanted to do something to help Jaron see
the world in color. With Hayes’ guidance, they organized a fundraising campaign. They made posters, held a bake
sale, and even reached out to the community through social media. The response was overwhelming. People from
all walks of life contributed generously, touched by Jaron’s bravery and the students’ kindness. In just a few weeks,
they had raised enough money to buy the special glasses for Jaron.
Paragraph 2:
Seeing the special glasses, Jaron was puzzled. When Hayes explained the effort they had put in, tears welled
up in Jaron’s eyes. He tried on the glasses, and suddenly, the world around him transformed. Overwhelmed with
emotion, Jaron hugged Hayes and thanked his classmates. From that day on, Jaron no longer felt left out. Instead,
he felt a sense of belonging and appreciation for the warmth and support from his friends. The experience taught
them all a valuable lesson about empathy, unity, and the power of kindness.
