Germany may be famous for its wealth of history and culture, but it also houses some of Europe’s most wild
and wonderful landscapes.
Jasmund National Park
It lies on the west coast of the offshore island of Rugen. This UNESCO-protected site is the smallest of
Germany’s national parks. It was here that painter Caspar David Friedrich found himself inspired to create one of
his masterpieces, Chalk Cliffs on Rugen, in 1818. Here long trails can take you all the way to the Rugen coastline,
where white-sand beaches and blue waters wait.
Berchtesgaden National Park
Berchtesgaden is one of Germany’s oldest and most beautiful conservation areas. Trails go in and out of the
forest leading you along the banks of glassy lakes. The more adventurous visitors may choose paragliding (滑翔伞
运动) from Mount Jenner and they can fly over 1,800 meters. Back on the ground a network of more than 150
miles of walking trails twist through the forest.
Southern Black Forest Nature Park
The highland areas, with views over Switzerland and France, are a good place for food-lovers. Activities in the
park range from hiking and fishing to mountain biking, while the slower traveller will enjoy the trails for an escape
from everyday life.
The Bliesgau Biosphere
This place is home to almost half of all German orchid (兰 花 ) species. The grasslands spread for miles,
drawing in different butterflies. Thanks to its comfortable climate, this is a regions of sustainable development. In
fact, this park is an example of farming done right and offers agricultural tricks to anyone eager to learn.

Way back in the early 1940s-long before smartphones, voice assistants and semi-autonomous weapons-the late
great sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov drew up a set of principles for the development of advanced robotic systems.
Asimov was essentially an optimist, and his famous Three Laws of Robotics have influence in science and
technology circles to this day.
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm 2. A
robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law 3.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Now, almost 80 years later, legal academic and artificial intelligence expert Frank Pasquale has added four
additional principles. Professor Pasquale says while Asimov’s ideas were well founded, they assumed a certain
technological trajectory (轨迹) that no longer holds-innovations are not always for the good of humanity.
“Whereas Asimov is talking about how we have robots help people and not harm them, I’m talking about how
we guide the direction of technology,” he says. And he draws an important distinction between AI and what he
terms IA-intelligence augmentation (增强).
“The artificial intelligence goal is often to replace human beings, to create, for example, a robot doctor or a
robot teacher. The intelligence augmentation goal is to help human beings.”
“If we go for an artificial intelligence vision of replacement, that’s going to create a jobless future in many
areas,” he says. “Whereas if we emphasise intelligence augmentation, that should actually increase both
productivity and the value of labour.”
“We’ve seen so many fields where technological advances have led to very troubling and harmful
consequences like global warming. We’ve got to get ahead of these things.” he says. “We can’t just look at
something like global warming and say, well, we’ll just get a technological fix out of it. We have to think very
deeply about directing innovation.”
24. What do we learn about Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics
A. They ignore robots’ interests. B. They focus on humans’ interests.
C. They predict the development of AI. D. They have a history of nearly 70 years.
25. Which of the following beliefs did Isaac Asimov agree with
A. IA is more important than AI. B. Innovations do good to people.
C. Robots will replace human beings. D. Technology can be harmful to people.
26. What is the core of intelligence augmentation
A. The development of robots. B. Humans’ depending on robots.
C. The improvement of humans. D. Robots’ replacing human beings.
27. What attitude does Frank Pasquale take to technological advances
A. Critical. B. Confused. C. Optimistic. D. Cautious.

In 1924, the world-famous sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his thirteen-year-old son took a trip together out west.
They left their home in Connecticut and, days later, got off a train in Rapid City, South Dakota. Only about six
thousand people lived in Rapid City, South Dakota had been a state for only thirty-five years. The Borglums
actually were just in the center of the United States.
Gutzon had come to South Dakota to see if he could find a mountain to carve into the biggest sculpture in the
country. He was a patriotic man, and his idea was to give America a sculpture to glorify it. Perhaps it could be huge
carvings of great Americans with heads as high as the tallest buildings. What an amazing idea! But many people
thought it was crazy. And no one, not even Borglum himself, realized how hard it would be to do.
Gutzon and his son, Lincoln, traveled into the wild country of the Black Hills. The Black Hills is an area 120
miles long and sixty miles wide. It rises up four thousand feet and more. The Borglum party climbed to the top of
the tallest mountain, Harney Peak. Far away, Gutzon could see a granite (花岗石) mountain. It stood higher than
the surrounding peaks. That would be the place for his giant sculpture!
The name of the mountain was Mount Rushmore. Today, huge six-story-high carved heads of presidents
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln gaze out from high on the
granite face of Mount Rushmore. Borglum overcame an incredible number of obstacles to create this great national
monument. He said it was like waging a one-man war.
Mount Rushmore has become a symbol of patriotism and pride for many Americans. But people from all over
the world travel to marvel at it. Even so, there are people who think it should not ever have been made.
28. What do we learn about South Dakota
A. It was a little wild. B. It had a long history.
C. It had a large population. D. It was in the south of America.
29. Why did Gutzon Borglum leave his home
A. To explore nature. B. To seek his fortune.
C. To complete a project. D. To take an adventure trip.
30. What is special about Mount Rushmore
A. Its economic status. B. Its political significance.
C. Its cultural advantage. D. Its geographical position.
31. Which of the following words can best describe Gutzon Borglum
A. Curious and smart. B. Kind and generous.
C. Hardworking and practical. D. Ambitious and determined.

Egypt is home to more than 100 pyramids, including the landmark Giza pyramid which is the last-standing
ancient wonder of the world. It is an example of the wisdom and skills of ancient development. The Great Pyramid
of Giza has stood tall since the 26th Century BC, and took 27 years to build, with around 2.3 million blocks of
stone weighing 6 million tons.
Giza is actually made up of three pyramids, Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure each one is named after a pharaoh
(法 老 ). Now, scientists are using High Energy Physics to scan (扫 描 ) the Khufu structure at Giza. The new
technology scans deeper into the pyramid than before, and then maps its inside structure.
What we see now is only the central structure of the Great Pyramid. Although the pyramid has been studied
closely for centuries, there are two mysterious holes that have kept archaeologists puzzled.
One is around 98 feet long and 20 feet high and could be one large space or several rooms, according to scans
of the pyramid, while the other is much smaller, just beyond the north face of the pyramid. Archaeologists are not
sure what either space functioned as; the most exciting possibility is that the larger space is the hidden room to keep
Khufu, who governed from around 2551 BC to 2528 BC.
Finding holes in pyramids isn’t unusual, though. Nowadays, though, we have the technology to find out,
compared to days gone by when examinations would have to blow up the pyramids to explore.
“Since the instruments that are used are very large, they cannot be placed inside the pyramid, and therefore our
approach is to put them outside and meticulously move them along the base. In this way, we can build up the
required data set,” the team wrote in the paper. The technology is so precise that scientists may be able to even tell
objects within the hole.
32. What can be learned about the Great Pyramid of Giza
A. It is named after a pharaoh. B. It is the largest ancient wonder of the world.
C. It was built with around 6 million stones. D. It has a history of more than 4,000 years.
33. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The owner of the pyramid. B. The two mysterious holes.
C. The advanced research technology. D. The central structure of the Giza pyramid.
34. What does the author think of the examinations in the days gone by
A. They caused damage. B. They took long to carry out.
C. They used no equipment. D. They explained almost all puzzles.
35. What does the underlined word “meticulously” in Paragraph 6 mean
A. Carefully. B. Quickly. C. Formally. D. Secretly.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
AI refers to the ability of machines to interpret data and act intelligently, meaning they can make decisions and
carry out tasks based on the data at hand. 36 And it will dramatically change our lives in very real ways.
Here are four reasons why AI is going to change the world.
AI is everywhere. Have you ever asked AI for the morning weather report, passed through a public space that
uses facial recognition technology, or bought a product recommended to you by AI Of course you have. 37
So obviously, people’s everyday life has been already surrounded by AI.
38 The impact of AI is already being felt in a wide range of industries, such as banking, farming and
manufacturing. In health care, AI is being used to identify diseases and even predict diseases in some cases in order
to help doctors and their patients make better treatments and lifestyle decisions.
AI will make our working lives better. Journalism is one industry that’s undergoing an AI revolution. And
many AI tools help journalists identify and write stories. At a company, for example, an AI-driven content
management system called Bertie is used to identify real-time trending topics, suggest improvements to headlines
and identify relevant images. 39
AI is becoming more affordable for the masses. In the past, to work with AI, you would need expensive
technology and many scientists. 40 Like many technology solutions, with a rapidly growing range of
ready-made service solutions aimed business of all sizes, AI is now readily available on an as-a-service basis.
A. That’s no longer the case now.
B. It is truly a transformative technology.
C. AI will offer us better medical treatment.
D. AI is going to transform entire industries.
E. Most of us have done one or all of these things.
F. This gives journalists effort to focus on telling the story.
G. Facial recognition technology brought convenience to life.

I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings (兄弟姐妹). We weren’t poor by most standards, but things were
definitely hard for us. My parents never shared their financial worries, choosing instead to let us have a carefree
childhood. But I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that certain things my
friends had wouldn’t be available to me.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the
students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: thick slices of homemade
bread, three cookies and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their
steaming plates of fried chicken cold milk, peaches and a slice of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the desire in my eyes. One day
she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I hurried home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your
hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken across the
cafeteria and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn’t as at as I had imagined, but I was
pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
One rainy day, Mrs. Caruso asked me to stay after school. My stomach instantly dropped to the floor. Did she
know I hadn't finished my math sheet After the other students had left, Mrs. Caruso said she was going to finish
her work and then drive me home. It was raining, and she knew I had a long walk. We pulled up to my house and
she got out, putting a few bags on the porch. “Tell your mom I had a few extra things she might want,” she said.
Then she drove away, Inside the bags were clothes, toys, and books.

第二节
That summer day,Mrs. Caruso invited me and my siblings to
her home. We were a bit nervous, as we had never been to a
teacher's house before. However,when we arrived,we were
pleasantly surprised. Her home wasn't as Iuxurious as we had
imagined, but it was filled with warmth and love. She prepared a
hearty lunch for us, and took us on a tour of her garden, which was
filled with a variety of plants and flowers. She also showed us her
study, which was filled with all sorts of books. We spent a delightful
afternoon at her house, deeply moved by her kindness and
hospitality.
The experiences made a great difference in my life. Mrs.
Caruso's kindness and generosity taught me the importance of
caring and helping each other. It was a lesson that I carried with me
throughout my life, shaping my values and actions. I learned to
appreciate what I had and to give back whenever I could.I also
learned that kindness can come from unexpected places and that
it's the small acts of kindness that can make a big difference.
