Learning to Make Dough Figurines
Last week, our art teacher took us to visit a craft shop to learn about dough figurines, a traditional art form in our textbook. The shop owner, Mr. Li, is a 60-year-old 1 of this craft. He welcomed us warmly and showed us many 2 dough figurines of cartoon characters and traditional heroes like the Monkey King.
At first, I thought it was easy to make one, but I was wrong. Mr. Li gave each of us a small piece of coloured dough and some 3 tools, like a small knife and a rolling pin(擀面杖). He taught us to make a little rabbit first. I tried to shape the dough into a rabbit’s body, but it was too soft and kept 4 flat. I felt a little 5 and wanted to give up.
Mr. Li saw that and came to help me. He taught me to press the dough 6 and told me to be patient. “Dough figurine making is not about speed,” he said. “It’s about care and love.” I followed his words and tried again. This time, I moved my hands slowly and 7 every step carefully. After 20 minutes, my little rabbit was finally done. It was not as perfect as Mr. Li’s, but it was my first work. I felt so 8 of it.
All of us made our own small dough figurines that day. We 9 our works with each other and took photos with Mr. Li. Before leaving, he told us that traditional crafts need young people to pass them on. This trip let me know that every traditional art is a treasure. It also made me want to learn more about Chinese crafts and 10 them to more people around me.

When was the last time you used cash For many of us, it feels like ages. Have you ever looked carefully at RMB notes
Today, we pay for bubble tea or meals with just a QR code or a tap of the phone. Notes seem to have disappeared (消失). But they are a lot more than just money. Instead, they offer important windows into Chinese culture. Take the 100 note, for example. Its background pattern (图案) looks very similar to a phoenix (凤凰) design on a piece of Warring States Period lacquer ware (漆器)!
In fact, China was one of the first countries in the world to use paper money. During the Song Dynasty, people began to use notes such as jiaozi. They had detailed designs. Besides being beautiful, this made it hard to make fake money. Later, another note—baochao, appeared in the Ming Dynasty.
Today, each RMB note features a flower that plays an important role in Chinese culture. For instance, the 50 note bears the chrysanthemum (菊花). This flower is often considered as a symbol of a person who lives alone in nature and far away from others. The most famous one is Tao Yuanming, the poet who wrote the famous line “Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence.”
Another great example is the plum blossom (梅花) on the 100 note. This flower blooms in the cold of winter, so it often stands for strength, hope, and courage. It’s probably the most celebrated flower in our culture and has appeared in more poems than one can count since ancient times.
RMB notes carry a cultural weight far heavier than the numbers printed on them!

A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby after work. In fact, dancing has been seen as one of the best exercises to fight bad feelings in recent years.
Why is dancing so helpful Dancing, moving the body to different kinds of music, helps the body produce more endorphin (内啡肽), a chemical (化学物质) that makes people feel relaxed and happy.
While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together has a stronger effect. In a study, German scientists tested some patients under three conditions: dancing to music, only listening to music, and riding bikes without music. The results showed that the dancing group felt the least sad. This tells us that dancing is more than just moving around—it truly lifts our spirits.
Dancing can also bring people closer. Social dances like tango and Latin need us to move with others, which improves our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific organization. Through eye contact, people feel more trust and closeness.
▲ Studies show that depression (抑郁症) often has to do with sadness about the past or worries about the future. Dancing helps people focus on the present, connect with their bodies, and free their minds for a while, as reported by Psych Central, a mental health news website. When we dance, we stop overthinking and start feeling. This makes it an excellent way to enjoy the present moment without even trying.
Lauren Helper, an American social worker, says dancing is a helpful way to reduce stress. It can be any form—whether it’s moving alone around the house to a song or going out dancing with friends. “The most important thing is that the movement is fun. You don’t need to be a perfect dancer. Just turn on some music, move your body, and enjoy the moment. That’s the real magic of dance,” she told Psych Central.
21.What can help you the most when you are sad, according to the study
A.Attending a concert. B.Talking to a friend.

Dear teachers and classmates,
Good morning! Today I’d like to talk about body language, a special way we communicate with each other. It’s a silent language that we use every day, and it can show our real thoughts and feelings without saying any words. Every small action like our facial expressions, hand gestures and body postures (姿势), can send messages to people around us.
When we are happy, we will smile naturally. When we are listening carefully, we often nod our heads. We can even feel others’ moods just by watching their body language, even if they don’t say a word. What’s interesting is that body language is part of all cultures, but the same action can mean different things in different countries.
Body language is a kind of common language among people, and it makes our daily life more lively and interesting. A soft hug can show our care for others. A warm pat (轻拍) on the shoulder can express our encouragement to others. It’s a wonderful thing that such silent actions can connect people’s hearts. Body language is truly an important part of our life that we can’t live without.
Thanks for your listening!

71. Hi, friends! Let me share a Chinese story about the New Year monster—Nian.
Long ago, the monster Nian would come down from the mountains to hurt people at the end of every year. Later, people discovered Nian feared loud noises and the color red. So they lit firecrackers and put up red couplets to drive it away. That’s how our Spring Festival traditions began. Today, the festival still keeps these customs. Families get together for a big dinner, kids receive red packets with good wishes, and we watch fireworks at night. These activities bring us closer and fill the air with joy.
More than just a holiday, Spring Festival is a time to celebrate new beginnings. It carries our wishes for a safe, happy year ahead and keeps our cultural traditions alive.
