In most languages, people often start small talk after a greeting. Small talk means the little things we talk about at the start of a conversation. In English-speaking countries people often make small talk about the weather: “Nice day, isn’t it ” “Terrible weather, isn’t it ” But there is something special about small talk. It must be about something that both people have the same opinion about. The purpose (目的 ) of small talk is to let both people agree on something. This makes meeting people easier and more comfortable. People usually agree about the weather, so it is a safe topic for small talk. But people often disagree about religion (宗教) or politics (政治) , so these are not suitable topics for small talk. The topics for small talk also depend on where the conversation is taking place. At football matches, people make small talk about the game they are watching: “Great game, isn’t it ” At bus stops, people may comment about the transport system: “The bus service is terrible, isn’t it ”
Small talk is an important part of conversation in any language. People in different countries start small talk in different ways. This shows that when we learn a language, we should learn the vocabulary and the grammar as well as the social behavior of the people who speak it.

Do you often laugh with friends Do you giggle (咯咯地笑) at jokes If you do, that is great, because just as the saying goes: Laughter is the best medicine!
People start laughing from a young age. At around three months old, babies learn to laugh. Even babies that cannot see or hear can laugh. Laughter is a natural part of life! But why is it so important
First of all, laughter is good for our body. When we laugh, our body takes in more oxygen (氧气). Every part of our body needs oxygen to work well. Laughter also makes our body work out. Our heart, stomach, and even our shoulders work hard when we laugh! But after we laugh, our muscles (肌肉) feel more relaxed. A good laugh can help you feel relaxed for up to 45 minutes. Over time, laughter helps our body to get stronger, fight off more diseases, and even create special chemicals (化学物质) to help us feel less pain!
Laughter also has many benefits for our mood. When we laugh, it makes us feel less stressed or anxious, and things will not seem so bad. Laughing also causes our brain to release (释放) chemicals that make us feel calm and happy. Scientists even think that smiling often is enough to increase (增加) these chemicals in our brain.
But it is not always easy to laugh on our own. We are 30 times more likely to laugh when we are around others. According to some scientists, laughter can show others that we want to be close to them. Some people even join laughing groups. Although they force themselves to laugh at first, after hearing other people laugh, their laughter becomes real! Before long, the whole group of people is laughing hard.
The next time you feel unhappy, try thinking about something funny. Although you might not want to laugh when you are sad, doing so can make you feel better!

When a theatre puts on a show, someone has to make the stage look like a castle, or a forest, or a school. That person is the set designer. But before building the real set, they create a small model.
Lizzie Bracken designed the set for a play called “You Think It’s Easy Being The Tooth Fairy (牙仙子)” at Lifeline Theater in Chicago.
Ophelia: __▲__
Lizzie: I think almost every set designer in the world starts with a model. It’s a fast way to see what the set will look like. You can take apart (拆解) a model and put it back together and play with it and make sure everything works before you build the real one. I start with a lot of drawings. Once I can see what it looks like, I make a white model, no color, so we can see if all the pieces work. Then I add colors and decoration.
Ophelia: What’s the model made of
Lizzie: Mainly foamcore (泡沫板). If I’m working on a set with lots of furniture, I’ll just buy models online from a dollhouse or model train company. I love model train stores. You can find some really great things there: trees, furniture and cool lighting. Then I slightly change them the way I want.
Ophelia: The play is about a three-inch-tall tooth fairy. How did you make a grown-up actor look that tiny
Lizzie: Oh, we have lots of tricks! For example, the prop (道具) designer, Jenny Pinson, made some huge coins for the tooth fairy to collect. That made her look small. We also made a giant kid’s hand, about four feet long and a giant cat. Then the rest is left to audience’s (观众的) imaginations.
Ophelia: What would you like to do next
Lizzie: Maybe Frankenstein…that would be so fun to work on.
Ophelia: Thanks for talking with me!

What makes a great team Different people may have different answers, but there are some common secrets.
First, good communication is the bridge of a great team. Team members need to talk openly and listen to each other carefully. When someone has a problem, others should offer help instead of criticizing. For example, in our class basketball team, we have a rule: before each game, we have a 10-minute meeting to discuss strategies. This helps us work better together.
Second, a shared goal is the direction of a great team. All members should work towards the same goal. If everyone has different ideas, the team can't move forward. Once, our science team decided to build a small robot. At first, some members wanted to focus on appearance, while others cared more about function. We had a long discussion and finally agreed on a shared goal—to make a useful and attractive robot.
Third, respect is the foundation of a great team. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. We should respect each other's differences. For example, in our group project, Tom is good at designing, and I am good at writing reports. We respect each other's skills and work together smoothly.
In fact, a great team is not about having the best members, but about working together in the right way. When team members communicate well, share the same goal and respect each other, they can overcome any difficulty.
26.What is the bridge of a great team according to the passage
A.Good communication. B.A shared goal.
C.Respect. D.Leadership.
27.Why does the basketball team have a meeting before each game
A.To criticize team members. B.To discuss strategies.
C.To show their skills. D.To relax before the game.
28.What happened to the science team at first
A.They had different ideas about the robot.
B.They agreed on the robot’s design immediately.
C.They finished the robot very quickly.
D.They gave up building the robot.
29.What does the writer think is the most important for a great team
A.Having the best members.
B.Working together in the right way.
C.Knowing each other well.
D.Making strict rules.
30.What is the main idea of the passage
A.The secrets of a great team.
B.The importance of communication.
C.How to build a robot with a team.
D.The role of leadership in a team.

Do you laugh every day Most people do. Scientists say that people laugh about 17 times a day on average. That is lots of laughter (笑).
In India, there are hundreds of laughter clubs. They aren’t a place for people to watch interesting shows. They’re a place for people to practice laughing. People get together every morning. First, they put their hands on their heads. Then they pretend (假装) to laugh. But after a short time, everyone is laughing naturally. They say they feel good after laughing together.
Scientists believe that laughter is good for us. Why do they think so For one thing, laughter is good exercise. When we laugh, we exercise many muscles (肌肉) in our body. Scientists say that one hundred laughs is the same as ten minutes of running. For another, when we laugh, we also breathe deeply. This helps us relax. That’s good for us, too.
Why do we laugh That’s a hard question to answer. We know that people laugh more often in a group. They don’t laugh very often when there is no one with them. Many scientists believe that we use laughter to connect with other people. Laughter helps us feel part of a group.
Some people even say that laughter is the best medicine. If a man is ill, laughter can help him get well. What do you think
