Claude and Louise are “giraffes”, so are police officers Hankins and Pearson. These men and women don’t look like giraffes. They look like you and me. Then why do people call them “giraffes”
A giraffe is an animal that sticks (伸出) its long neck out, can see places far away and has a large heart. In the same way, a “giraffe” can be a person who likes to “stick his or her neck out” for other people, always watches for future happenings and has a warm heart for people around. “The Giraffe Project” is a 10-year-old group which finds and honors (表彰) “giraffes” in the US and in the world. The group wants to teach people to do something to build a better world. The group members try to tell people to “stick their necks out” and help others.
Claude and Louise were getting old and they left their work with some money that they saved for future use. One day, however, they saw a homeless man looking for a place to keep warm and they decided that they should “stick their necks out” and give him some help. Today, they live in Friends’ House, where they invite twelve homeless people to stay every night.
Police officers Hankins and Pearson work in a large city. They see crimes every day and their work is sometimes dangerous. They work hard for their money. However, these two men put their savings together and even borrowed money to start an education center to teach young people in a poor part of the city. Hankins and Pearson are certainly “giraffes”.
31.What is a “giraffe” according to Paragraph 2
A. A person with a long neck. B. A person with much money.
C. A person with a warm heart. D. A person with great interest in giraffes.
32.What does “The Giraffe Project” do
A. Help poor people. B. Protect giraffes in danger.
C. Honor “giraffes” around the world. D. Teach people to feed giraffes.
33.What can we know about Claude and Louise from Paragraph 3
A. They were too rich to work. B. They looked for a place to live.
C. They supported people without homes. D. They bought a very large house.
34.Why do people call Hankins and Pearson “giraffes”
A. Because they carry out some dangerous work.
B. Because they work hard and save a lot of money.
C. Because they found a home for some homeless people.
D. Because they set up a learning center for youth.
35.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage
D
Have you noticed such a scene: Fish often travel in schools(成群结队). With perfect timing, they bend and break together. Scientists have long wondered why schooling is so common.
A new study has compared the energy a fish uses as it swims. “Moving in a school reduced the energy a fish used by more than half,” says George Lauder.
Lauder and schoolmate Yangfan Zhang worked with giant danio(大鲷). These small fish love to swim in schools.
Sometimes the team put eight at a time into a water tank shaped like a racetrack(跑道). Other times, they just put in a single fish. The danio didn’t loop around (循环) the tank like race cars. Instead, the danio swam in one spot, like a runner on a treadmill(跑步机), When they “ran” together, a motor pushed the tank’s water around. This created a current(水流)
As the fish swam, a special device measured how much oxygen(氧气)they used. As we all know, people who run a short distance very fast use a lot of oxygen. They usually need some time to recover. Here, the researchers used oxygen as a standard of how much energy the fish used to swim.
To make them swim fast, the researchers increased the speed of the water current. When they slowed the water down, the fish slowed down, too.
Schooling fish used less oxygen than when they swam alone. And, they took less time to recover. In other words, they had an easier time “catching their breath” after schooling.
By schooling, fish can save their energy for other important things, says Frank, who works at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. For example, if fish are young, they can put that energy into growth. As adults, they can use it to produce young or to avoid being caught by their enemies.
36.How does the writer organize the text
A. By telling a story and explaining a rule.
B. By introducing a tool and describing its use.
C. By describing a scene and presenting a study.
D. By finding the similarity between two objects.
37.Why do fish travel in schools according to George’s research
A. Because it is perfect timing. B. Because it reduces energy.
C. Because schooling is common. D. Because it’s easy for them to bend and break.
38.How did the researchers control the speed of fish
A. They increased the water current. B. They controlled the oxygen.
C. They controlled the speed of water. D. They slowed water down.
pared with schooling fish, a single fish__________.
A. may use less oxygen B. may take less time to recover
C. may have an easier time to catch the breath D. may use more oxygen

Protecting the environment is everyone’s duty. With the development of society, environmental problems are becoming more and more serious, such as air pollution, water pollution and waste pollution. 41 It’s time for us to take action to protect our home.
There are many simple ways we can do in our daily life to protect the environment. 42 For example, we can bring our own shopping bags when going shopping instead of using plastic bags. This can reduce the amount of white pollution.
Saving water is another important way to protect the environment. We often waste water without noticing it. 43 We can also reuse water, like using the water from washing vegetables to water flowers.
Besides, saving energy is necessary for environmental protection. 44 Turning off the lights when we leave a room and using energy-saving bulbs can help save a lot of electricity. Walking or riding a bike instead of driving a car is also a good choice.

Stay Positive and Be a Sunny Teenager
As a teenager, I have met some problems in my life. The biggest one is academic pressure. I often feel stressed before exams and worry about my grades.
To deal with it, I make a clear study plan every day and review lessons on time. When I feel tired, I listen to music or do sports to relax. Talking with my parents and teachers also helps a lot.
I think we should face problems bravely instead of being afraid. Keeping a positive attitude and finding proper ways will make us better and sunnier teenagers.
