Lu Ban was a master carpenter in ancient China. Once, a man came to the place where Lu Ban worked. He thought he was good at using an axe and started showing off his axe-wielding skills. But he didn’t know that he was in front of the greatest expert.

He also helped build many bridges and palaces in the State of Lu and other states. He made a big difference in China.

The Four Great Inventions in ancient China greatly promoted the development of China and the world. Can you tell more about them Then discuss with your classmates.
Printing was invented by Bi Sheng in the Song Dynasty. He made movable clay characters. These characters could be put together to print different texts. Printing became much faster this way.
Gunpowder was invented by Chinese people during the Tang Dynasty. They mixed saltpeter, sulfur and charcoal (硝石、硫磺和木炭)by accident. At first, it was used for fireworks. Later, it was used in weapons and changed the world.
Look and say
Paper-making was invented by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Before that, people wrote on bamboo or silk. Cai Lun thought of using tree bark, rags and fishing nets. He made them into pulp(纸浆), dried it, and invented paper. It made writing much easier.
Compass was invented in ancient China. Ancient Chinese people made the first compass by shaping lodestone into spoons and placing them on smooth plates. It greatly helped with navigation.
There are many creative inventors in the world. Work in groups and introduce one of them.
