Amazing Chocolate
Do you like chocolate Most people love its sweet, creamy flavor (味道). But where did chocolate come from
About 2,600 years ago, people first made use of chocolate. These people lived in Central and South America. They used the cocoa beans to make a special drink. However, this drink was not sweet. It was very bitter (苦的). As time passed, they started putting other things into their cocoa drink. They thought this could make it taste a little better. Later, when Europeans (欧洲人) arrived in South America, they started to import (进口) this popular drink to their home countries. Milk, cream, and sugar were added, and finally chocolate was born. The first chocolate house opened in London in 1675, and chocolate milk was developed in Jamaica in 1689.
Chocolate is now one of the most popular flavors in the world. Nowadays, we enjoy the chocolate flavor (味道) in chocolate bars, ice cream, cakes, pies, and many other foods. Scientists tell us that dark chocolate is good for our health. They say small but regular amounts of dark chocolate can lower (降低) the possibility of a heart attack (心脏病). This is perhaps another reason for the popularity of chocolate.

According to the scientists, if we eat large amounts of any high calorie food, including chocolate, we’ll become very fat. However, with its delicious flavor, chocolate will remain popular. The secret of enjoying chocolate is to try not to eat too much of it.

If you walk through a park in the morning or in the evening, you might see people doing these slow and beautiful movements. In fact, they are doing Tai Chi.
Tai Chi is an ancient martial art with a history of more than 400 years. It is a common kind of exercise in China. More than 100 million people in over 150 countries practise Tai Chi at present. Recently UNESCO has added Tai Chi to its Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Many Tai Chi fans were happy to hear of it. “This will make Tai Chi more popular around the world. Hopefully, more people will become healthier by practising it.” said Chen Bin. He is a Tai Chi master from Chenjiagou, Henan Province. This village is the birthplace of Chen-style Tai Chi.
It’s true that doing Tai Chi is good for our health. It can make us walk and move more freely, and it can also make us stronger. During slow movements, we can focus on (专注) our hands and feet. We can control them better.
Tai Chi also focuses on the harmony (和谐) between yin and yang. It shows how the ancient Chinese people saw the world. The world is full of yin and yang, dark and light, soft and hard, female and male. But they don’t oppose (对立) each other completely. As we see in the picture, a white spot is in the black area and a black spot is in the white area.

Dr. Yang, a famous sleep doctor, advises people to do outdoor exercise for at least 30 minutes a day during the daytime.
Dr. Yang has been doing research (研究) on sports and sleep for years. He finds out that those who exercise in natural light for half an hour every day have better sleep and more energy. Dr. Yang himself gets up at 6:30 a.m. every day. Then he usually takes a walk outside. Sometimes he walks his two dogs in the park in the afternoon with his sunglasses left at home.
Many schools have put Dr. Yang’s findings into practice. They made it a rule that students should do outdoor exercise once or twice a day. In some schools, students even set up outdoor running clubs. Most students say that they have benefited (受益) a lot from outdoor exercise. Now they sleep better and focus more on their studies.
