Yang Zhenning, one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century, passed away on 18th October, 2025, in Beijing. He developed a strong interest in science during his early years. He studied at the National Southwestern Associated University (国立西南联合大学), a famous university that nurtured (培养) many talents in difficult times. Later, he went to the University of Chicago in the United States for further study.
In 1957, Yang and his partner Li Zhengdao made history by winning the Nobel Prize in Physics. They received this honour for their groundbreaking theory of parity non-conservation (宇称不守恒理论)—a discovery that changed how scientists understood the basic rules of the universe.
Though he lived abroad for years, Yang always cared about his homeland. In 1971, he became the first Chinese scholar (学者) to visit China, helping rebuild academic (学术的) exchanges between China and the US. He also advised the Chinese government on improving basic science research and helped nearly 100 Chinese scholars study in the US. In 1999, he returned to work at Tsinghua University, spending his later years teaching young scientists and supporting the development of physics in China.

Would you like to watch a great football game On Ist November, 2025, a very exciting final match took place in Jiangsu Province. Let me tell you all about the final of the 2025 Jiangsu Football City League, which people also call the JS League. It was a very special event that many people still remember now.
The final began at the largest stadium in Nanjing—the Olympic Sports Centre. Every seat was taken as everyone waited to see who would win. On one side stood the underdog(黑马)Taizhou Team; on the other was the powerful Nantong Team. Both sides fought bravely throughout the 90-minute match, yet neither managed to score. With the result undecided, the winner had to be chosen by penalty kicks (点球). Each shot brought loud cheers from the crowd. Finally, after an intense (激烈的) battle, Taizhou won 4-3.
How did they manage this amazing feat Earlier in the season, Taizhou hadn’t performed well at all. Yet they refused to quit (停止)—practising daily and supporting each other as a true team. Through sheer (纯粹的) determination, they defeated three stronger teams in the playoffs (季后赛) to reach the final stage. Winning the championship truly turned their dream into reality.
Over 60,000 excited fans were in the stadium that night, setting a new attendance (出席) record for Chinese amateur (业余的) football match. People cheered, waved flags, and celebrated every exciting moment. The atmosphere was really fantastic, filling the whole city with joy and pride.

One of the best parts of autumn is its beautiful colours. Normally, green leaves turn into orange, yellow, red and finally brown. This is called “leaf phenology (叶片物候)”, and many people look forward to it every year. However, because of climate change, autumn is changing.
According to a study that came out earlier this year, the season length is getting longer. It is taking longer for leaves to change their colours. And this is not the only thing that climate change is ruining(破坏).
“Trees are holding onto their leaves longer,” explained Dr Diamond, a senior climate scientist. “In my own neighbourhood, I can remember that leaves would drop much sooner than they do now.”
Climate change isn’t just causing leaves to change colours later. We can also expect later frosts (霜冻) according to Dr Mann, a professor. Mann said, “That means pests (害虫) stay active for a longer time in autumn, leading to a greater health risk to human beings.”
If there is any good news at all, though, we may be able to delay (延缓) this development. Mann pointed out that if we limited the carbon emissions (限制碳排放), we could still stop the worst effects of climate change from hitting us during the autumn months. “A new study recently suggests that surface warming will possibly stop after carbon emissions reach zero,” Mann said.
Autumn-is such a wonderful season, whether it’s the golden leaves-covering the grasslands in North China or the ginkgo trees (银杏树) dropping their yellow leaves in our schoolyard. It is a gift we should keep. The beautiful autumn we protect today may be the sweet memory we will hold tomorrow.
Which is NOT the effect of climate change on autumn
A. The season length is becoming longer.
B. Leaves are changing their colours later.
C. There are many more frosts in autumn.
D. Pests keep active longer than before.
What can we infer from Dr Mann’s words in Paragraph 4
A. Pests will disappear completely if there are earlier frosts.
B. Later frosts in autumn is good for people’s health.
C. People should try to kill pests in autumn.
D. The longer pests are active, the more dangerous it is for people.
What do the underlined words “this development” refer to
A. The beautiful autumn scenery in people’s life.
