At the recent Tech Innovators Challenge, several student teams showed their creative projects. Team EduAI, which developed an AI-powered education software that personalizes learning, secured the first position. They received 500,000 in prize money. Speaking for the team, Adekun le shared their inspiration: “We couldn’t find satisfactory answers from other apps during an exam, so we created our own software. It uses AI to help users understand topics better. For example, if someone struggles with a topic, the software adapts to make learning easier.”
In second place, Team Brainstorm earned 350,000 for designing AI-integrated sensor glasses for those with low vision. Third place went to Team ConnectEdu, who created a student communication app with embedded (嵌入的) security features, receiving 150, 000. Whether you’re happy with your size or not, the basic fact of life is that we all have to eat. How you choose to raise yourself can make a big difference in how you feel, not only in your body, but about yourself and the world around you.
“I had this babysitter who was a dieter,” said Dr Linda Shiue, an internal medicine physician and trained chef. “She would eat colourless, smell-less food and she was sad all the time.” That isn’t Shiue’s style. She is the first director of culinary (烹饪的) medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco, where she founded Thrive Kitchen, a teaching kitchen inspired by the babysitter. Her classes show people how to use spices (香料) and herbs to flavour seasonal cuisine while following an eating pattern that supports health.
“As a physician who has seen the negative effects of long-term dieting, I encourage people to reconsider their relationship to food as a source of pleasure. This can be a very arduous task considering the diet-supporting messaging that surrounds us,” Shiue said in an email.
What can you do to enjoy your food ” Many of us have experienced shame or guilt around food, and a lot of that is a product of our culture and what the fashion and whole dieting industries have created,” Shiue said. “I think that most people at some point feel like, ‘Oh, I shouldn’t eat that. That’s bad for me.’ Actually, there’s no need to feel bad about food choices. Everything has to be in moderation, and that means there’s room for the occasional indulgence (放纵).”
Restrictive (限制的) diets are having the opposite effect. “Research shows that the best eating plan is the one any given individual can stick with — a sustainable (可持续的) lifestyle change,” Shiue said.
In Shiue’s opinion, food is more than a way to simply stay alive. “Nutrition is only one small part of food,” she said. “Food is also an expression of love and care. So enjoy your food!”
28. What inspired Dr Linda Shiue to found Thrive Kitchen
A. Her training as a chef.
B. Her own eating habits and lifestyle.
C. Her work as an internal medicine physician.
D. Her experience with a babysitter who was a dieter.
29. What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Meaningful. B. Difficult. C. Abstract. D. Promising.
30. According to Shiue, what should people do to enjoy their food
A. Always eat what you like.
B. Follow fashion and dieting trends.
C. Stop judging food as good or bad.
D. Completely avoid restrictive diets.
31 What is the main idea of the passage
A. People should eat healthy food to stay alive.
B. People should reconsider the role of nutrition.
C. How and what people eat affects their well-being.
D Long-term dieting has negative effects on people’s health.

Amazon has let out plans for a grocery shop without a checkout process, where customers will instead pay for the goods they have selected via an app.
The Just Walk Out shopping experience uses the same types of technologies found in self-driving cars. The system detects when items are taken or returned to shelves and tracks them in a virtual shopping trolley (手推车). Once the shopper leaves the store, their Amazon account will be charged and receipt sent to them.
“Grocery retail (零售) is a crowded business, and customers have incredibly high expectations of the Amazon brand,” said Natalie Berg, an analyst at Planet Retail. “If Amazon is going to differentiate, they’ll need to translate the fantastic customer experience that they have created online into a physical store setting. This is no easy task. Removing the traditional checkout process does exactly that.”
Amazon has spent four years developing the shop. Customers will walk into the store using the Go app. It will use computer vision sensors and deep learning algorithms (算法) to keep track of what customers are picking up off the shelves. “Despite significant investment (投资) in store technology, the checkout experience has been largely ignored,” said Ms Berg. “Retailers have made a lot of progress on mobile payments as a stand-alone option; however, very few have been successful in moving towards an entire mobile wallet and therefore solving the problem of long queues. This is where Amazon comes in.”
The shop will offer ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by on-site chefs or by local kitchens and bakeries. Grocery necessities such as bread and milk will also be on sale alongside Amazon Meal Kits, with all the materials needed to make a meal for two in about 30 minutes.
32. How will customers pay for the goods in Amazon’s new grocery shop
A. By using a credit card at the exit. B. By using an app after leaving the store.
C By paying in cash at the checkout counter. D. By paying in advance before entering the store.
33. Which of the following shows how the plan works
A. Goods taken→shopping trolley→account charged.
B. Account charged→shopping trolley→Goods taken.
C. Shopping trolley→Goods taken→account charged.
D. Goods taken→account charged→shopping trolley.
34. Why is removing the traditional checkout process important, according to Natalie Berg
A. It reduces operational costs for Amazon.
B. It enables Amazon to defeat other retailers.
C. It makes shopping faster and more convenient.
D. It increases the variety of products offered in the store.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. Amazon’s Expansion into the Food Delivery Market
B. The Future of Retail: Self-Driving Technology in Stores
C. Mobile Payments: The Key to Solving Long Queues in Retail
D. Amazon’s New Checkout-Free Grocery Shopping Experience

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One winter day when I was six years old, my dad was outside cutting wood when he suddenly came inside looking quite ill. Our normally easygoing father was sweating terribly, said he didn’t feel well, and went to rest on the sofa.
Within a matter of minutes, my mother and some neighbours were surrounding him as something was obviously wrong. Even though he insisted he just needed to rest for a few minutes, they wisely drove him to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. As they hurriedly drove away, my sisters and I looked out of the window, with great concern. We wondered if we would ever see our dad again.
Later, we learned that at the young age of thirty-eight, our dad had suffered a heart attack. He would eventually recover, but needed to first stay in the hospital for two weeks.
Doctors said the heart attack was stress-related. To make ends meet, as the only income earner for our family, my dad had taken on a second full-time job at a store, something he had been doing since a few months after my birth. Working two jobs had clearly damaged his body, and he would need to rest for several weeks after he was home from hospital, which meant he wouldn’t be able to work either of his jobs.
When Christmas was approaching, our parents hinted (暗示) they wouldn’t give us any Christmas gift. But we didn’t feel that upset; what we mainly wished was that our dad would recover. However, we could see our parents were upset that they wouldn’t be able to send us gifts.
One day, when our dad was home from hospital, two of his colleagues in the store where he worked visited us. Our dad and all his colleagues there were friendly to each other. That day, when chatting with our dad, his two colleagues suddenly smiled at us kids and asked whether Santa (圣诞老人) would visit us that year to bring us gifts and tell us holiday stories.

【答案】
My sisters and I took a look at each other and stayed quiet. Our parents looked embarrassed. My eight-year-old sister hurriedly replied, “I guess Santa will be too busy to visit us this year. Well, we don’t mind.” One of the colleagues laughed and said, “Oh, I bet Santa won’t be that busy. He will visit you.” However, we kids thought he was just joking. We didn’t know that after they left, they communicated with other colleagues and decided to donate money to buy us gifts and visit us. One night, our doorbell rang.
My sisters and I answered the door, surprised to see Santa accompanied by two helpers. They were standing there with many gifts. As we watched in awe, they handed us the presents. There were gifts for our whole family and even money to help cover daily expenses. After Santa had unloaded the gifts, he sat with us kids, telling us holiday stories. We had the most cheerful day ever. Before long, our dad recovered, and I eventually found out who Santa and his helpers were. I felt so thankful and touched that even in the hardest of times, kindness and generosity could find their way to us.

Later, we will invite you to our WeChat group to facilitate timely communication with you. In the group, you can sign up to join in various activities initiated by us. You can also invite others to join the group if they are willing to join in voluntary activities. After each volunteer activity, you will have the volunteer service hours and relevant certificates. If you have some special skills, such as photography, dancing and hosting, you can chat with us privately, so that we can better arrange your work in the future. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call our phone number 625-5498. And if you haven’t added our WeChat official account, please add to get more information about us.
