The reason for my enthusiasm Just a few weeks earlier, I stood frozen in that same spot before taking my own leap. I know how amazed he’ll feel afterward, so we take baby steps. Finally, he does it all on his own. As he makes it, his smile lights up the entire skatepark. There’s something magical about skateboarding: In a flash, fright turns into delight. My husband and I began skating even when we are in our 40s, so that we could learn alongside our son. As a “later skater”, I’ve come to realize that everything seems impossible until you try it. At the time, I had no idea how much I would gain from the not-so-simple art of standing sideways.First, skateboarding teaches determination because progress comes from efforts. No matter how skilled the crowd or how gravity-defying (反重力的) the moves, you’ll see just as many tricks going wrong as right. Irish writer Samuel Beckett could have been speaking for skaters when he wrote: “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”There are also plenty of sensible benefits, such as mindfulness. When you’re skateboarding, it’s almost impossible to think of anything else. What magic it is to step on a piece of wood with four little wheels and be transported to a place where your head is emptied and the outside world can’t touch you.The best part, though The community. My husband, son and I are part of an informal group of parents and children who skate together. We love it, from the clear ringing sound beneath our wheels to the way the sun makes the graffiti-covered buildings pop with color. We make friends and learn from one another. We face our fears side by side, cheer for the highs, and share the falls.24.Why did the author urge her son to try A.She was troubled by his falling behind.B.She wanted him to defeat fear quickly.C.She worried about his lack of enthusiasm.D.She wished him to enjoy the delight after fear.25.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Samuel Beckett A.To explain how to avoid failures.B.To prove skateboarding needs talent.C.To stress the value of consistent efforts.D.To show sports’ influence on literature.26.What is the benefit of skateboarding according to Paragraph 4 A.It makes people think more clearly.B.It helps keep the distractions away.C.It encourages skaters to build connections.D.It speeds skaters to escape from chasers.27.What message does the author convey in the text A.Any risky sport is worth trying.B.Courageous attempts lead to growth.C.Parents should push children to take risks.D.Constant failure ensures ultimate success.CIn the past decade Google searches for “solo travel” have more than doubled. In Britain the share of travellers going on holiday by themselves has nearly tripled, says the Association of British Travel Agents, from 6% in 2011 to 17% in 2024. Why are so many people travelling alone Just as Grand Tours became a ceremony for young noblemen, solo travel today is less about finding distant places than finding yourself. Hilton, a hospitality company, calls the trend “me-mooning” which is opposed to “honeymooning”. Meanwhile, those not searching for themselves are looking for an adventure. People “travel not to go anywhere, but to go”, as Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island, put it. Solo travellers describe the thrill of doing whatever they want, whenever they want. Research has shown that self-driven solitude can boost creativity and well-being.And, rather than hanging out with the mates they have, many travel alone in order to meet new friends and lovers. The isolation of the pandemic made people “more open” to wandering with strangers, says Lee Thompson of Flash Pack, a tour operator. The firm, which uses the slogan “arrive solo, leave as friends”, now takes twice as many bookings as it did before Covid-19. Millennials and Gen Z are particularly keen on travelling: they spend a larger share of their income on trips than their older peers do. Many are postponing getting married and having children, so have the flexibility to head off on trip when they please. On TikTok influencers advocate the virtues of independent travelling: “Stop waiting for someone to join you.” Women, in particular, are welcoming that trend. By one estimate, 84% of solo travellers are female. A century ago women were warned not to travel without a male companion; today many say they are not afraid to travel unaccompanied. Women today have the competence, and the time, to follow their feet.28.What does “me-mooning” refer to A.Remote destination exploration. B.Group-focused adventures.C.Solo travel for self-discovery. D.Honeymoon for couples.29.Why do some people travel alone according to Flash Pack A.To boost their creativity and well-being.B.To form new friendships and relationships.C.To avoid the spread of pandemic.D.To escape from their daily routines.30.What can we know about Millennial and Gen Z tourists A.They have flexible time and bigger budget for trips.B.They are keen on travelling with mates.C.They prioritize marriage and family over travel.D.They behave like older generation.31.What can we infer from last paragraph A.Women are still unwilling to travel alone.B.Most females prefer travelling accompanied by men.C.Women face multiple challenges when travelling alone.D.Women are embracing solo travel despite historical restrictions.DA team in Norway recently conducted in-depth research on writing by hand and typing on a keyboard. The team invited 36 university students who had to either write or type words displayed on a screen. The study participants used a digital pen to write in cursive (草书) on a touchscreen, and they used one finger on a keyboard to type. The researchers used a special cap with 256 sensors. This cap was worn by the students, and their brain activity was recorded for five seconds each time they were asked to write or type.“We show that when writing by hand, brain connectivity patterns are far more complex than when typewriting on a keyboard,” says Professor Audrey van der Meer, the team leader. “Such widespread brain connectivity is known to be important for memory formation and for encoding (编码) new information and, therefore, is beneficial for learning.” The researchers also note that even though the participants used digital pens for writing in the study, they believe the findings would be similar if the participants used an ink pen and paper.“We’ve shown that the differences in brain activity are related to the careful forming of the letters when writing by hand while making more use of the senses. Since it’s the movement of the fingers carried out when forming letters that promotes brain connectivity, writing in print also has similar benefits for learning as cursive writing,” Audrey adds. “This also explains why children who have learned to write and read on a tablet can have difficulty distinguishing between letters that are mirror images of each other, such as ‘b’ and ‘d’. They haven’t felt with their bodies what it feels like to produce those letters.”Considering handwritten note-taking is becoming less common in educational settings, the researchers advocate for more opportunities for students to write by hand. “There’s some evidence that students learn more and remember better when taking handwritten lecture notes, while using a computer with a keyboard may be more pragmatic when writing a long text or essay,” Audrey concludes.32.What was the special cap used to do A.Measure the participants’ brain activity. B.Evaluate the participants’ writing styles.C.Tell the participants when to write or type. D.Record the time the participants used to write.33.What does paragraph 3 focus on about the study A.Its backgrounds. B.Its equipment.C.Its outcomes. D.Its process.34.What plays the key role in strengthening brain connectivity A.Writing letters carefully by hand. B.Forming the habit of taking notes.C.Recognizing letters’ mirror images. D.Learning to practice cursive writing.35.What is Audrey’s attitude towards handwritten note-taking A.Critical B.Tolerant C.Ambiguous D.Approving第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。When heading to bed, people often do some things to promote sleep, such as drinking a cup of warm milk. 36 The answer is varied."One reason that warm milk makes people sleepy is that it reminds you of the person who was kind enough to give it to you when you were younger," said psychologist Michael. 37On the molecular level, the tryptophan (色氨酸) in milk has properties which can promote sleeping. 38 Our bodies use the tryptophan from food, along with other things, to produce the brain chemical serotonin, which is transformed into melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep.39 That's because the body transforms it into hormones that enhance sleep. But in reality, it would take a lot of tryptophan to make a person feel sleepy. Even if a person drinks that much milk, it's unclear whether the high amount of tryptophan would be enough to make him or her feel sleepy. Milk, after all, contains many other materials that compete to enter our brain through the blood. Thus, the sleep-promoting effect of milk is limited. As for the temperature of the milk, there aren't any studies that suggest milk has to be warm for any of its psychological or physical effects to kick in. 40 It can in turn help to relax the body.A.The calming association may help to lower pre-sleep anxiety.B.In theory, taking food rich in tryptophan can make us feel sleepy.C.The body needs the tryptophan in the milk to calm ourselves down.D.Can the temperature of the milk accelerate the speed of our sleeping E.The body cannot produce tryptophan, so people must get it from the diet.F.But the warmth of the milk may help raise our internal body temperatures.G.But is there any scientific evidence that drinking warm milk will make you sleepy 第三部分 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。Ethan Wargo, 9, sets up a “compliments stand (赞美小摊)” on his lawn to offer passersby praise.41 by an “insult (侮辱) stand” from one of his favorite novels, rather than embracing negativity, he decided to do the 42 by giving out free compliments.Soon, neighbors noticed this special stand, and a steady 43 of visitors stopped by. “Once I got my first customer, I thought, ‘I should keep doing this,’” Ethan recalled and 44 added that seeing people smile was his favorite part. She had always been careful in preparing Mike’s lunchbox. The food was more than enough to satisfy a young boy’s hunger. But recently Mike often returned home looking hungry. It wasn’t until one evening, when Mrs. Garcia noticed Mike rummaging (翻找) through the kitchen for food, that she realized something was wrong.“Mike, didn’t you have your lunch today ” Mrs. Garcia asked, watching her son open the fridge and grab a burger.Mike looked up at her, his eyes wide with fear. “I……I guess I did,” he said in a quiet voice, taking a bite of the burger.Mrs. Garcia felt confused. “Really You’ve been saying that for days now. What’s really going on ”Mike’s shoulders drooped (垂下) as he looked away. “I don’t know, Mum. I just feel hungry.”Mrs. Garcia’s concern deepened. She knew Mike was a healthy and active boy who usually had a good appetite, and this sudden shift in behavior was alarming. After discussing it with her husband, she decided it was time to uncover what was happening at school.“Mrs. Garcia, I’ve noticed that Mike seems anxious during lunch,” Clive, Mike’s teacher, said. “I’ll pay closer attention to him and observe how he interacts with his classmates. There might be something we’re overlooking.”Mrs. Garcia nodded, feeling a ray of hope. “Thank you, Clive. I just want to make sure he’s okay.” She understood it would take time, but she was determined to discover why Mike was struggling and to help him overcome whatever was troubling him.“We’ll get to the bottom of this. Some students spend it immediately, while others save it for future use. In my opinion, we should spend money on meaningful things.Wanting to spend money wisely, I urge each of us to create a thoughtful savings plan. In addition, we can open a savings account. Whenever we receive pocket money, we should put some of it into the bank account. This approach will enable us to manage our money more effectively. Most importantly, we will gradually develop the habit of saving money.I sincerely hope that everyone can manage their money wisely.67.As lunchtime approached, Clive stood at the classroom door. He saw Mike walk confidently over to a quiet boy who always sat alone in the corner. Mike greeted him with a smile and handed him part of his lunch, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. The boy accepted it gratefully, and they began chatting warmly, their laughter filling the room. Clive realized that Mike had been sharing his lunch regularly to help someone in need, which explained why he was always hungry when he came home.Mrs. Garcia saw Clive, Mike, and another boy chatting happily at the school gate. She walked up and found Mike’s smile brighter than usual. Clive explained Mike’s kind gesture—sharing his lunch with the classmate, Jacob, whose family was going through a tough time. Mrs. Garcia felt a mix of pride and relief, hugging Mike tightly. She promised to prepare lunches for both boys every day. Clive added that they had organized a small lunch club to support students in need, and Mike was happy to be part of it. Mrs. Garcia’s heart swelled with admiration for her son’s empathy and responsibility.听力原文Text 1W: Excuse me, is this seat taken M: No, it isn’t.W: Would you mind moving over one, so my friend and I can sit together M: No, not at all.Text 2W: You’re a really good cook. You can travel in one day and find many different spots and different places. If you move towards the southern part of the country close to Cape Town, you’d find they grow a lot of fruit and a lot of people live there because the climate is so mild and really has no extreme temperatures.Traveling from Cape Town to the eastern seaboard, you’ll get to the Garden Route in South Africa and the name comes from the fact that it looks almost like a garden. Beautiful plants and trees, forests, everything grows due to relatively high rainfall. It’s really beautiful and it never gets too hot in summer and never too cold in winter. But recently perhaps because of global warming we have seen quite a lot of changes in South Africa. The hot areas have recorded even higher temperatures.Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention there’s a really beautiful place that you can visit close to Cape Town. I think they call it the Floral Kingdom and it’s a natural heritage site that you can visit because of all the different species of plant life. Tourists from all over the world come to see it. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 桦南县第一中学2025-2026学年高二下学期第一次月考英语听力.mp3 桦南县第一中学2025-2026学年高二下学期第一次月考英语试卷.docx
