Losing a baby tooth can be fun for a kid. You can put it under your pillow and look forward to finding some money there in the morning. And then you can watch your new permanent (永恒的) tooth grow in its place.
But if a permanent tooth falls out, that’s a problem. There isn’t another one under the gum (齿龈)that can replace it. Unfortunately, this happens to some older people. And if permanent teeth fall out or need to be pulled, an older person might need dentures.
Dentures, known as false teeth, are a set of replacement teeth for any teeth that are missing. There are partial dentures, which take the place of only a few teeth and prevent the others from changing position. If all the teeth are gone, the person would need complete dentures, which replace every tooth in the mouth.
Dentures can cause pains at first and take little time to get adjusted to. They also need special care. They should be brushed daily with a special denture brush and cleanser and soaked (浸泡) in denture solution when not in the mouth.
Dentures are important for the old because, without teeth, it’s hard to smile, talk, and eat properly. But it can be a little weird if you see someone take out his or her dentures. It can also be strange to see someone, like a grandparent, without dentures in because he or she won’t have any teeth. Try not to make fun of the person because this could cause hurt feelings.
People usually lose their permanent teeth due to periodontal disease (牙周炎), or gum disease, which is caused by bacteria that attack the gums. Diseased gums aren’t strong and healthy, so teeth can get loose and fall out. Older people often have many cavities (洞) that have been filled over the years, and these fillings can weaken over time, leading to more tooth problems.
24.If one of your baby teeth falls out, you .
A.should have a false tooth fixed in its place B.have to put it under your pillow at once
C.will gain a permanent tooth in future D.can exchange it for some money
25.A person wearing dentures .
A.should brush them with a special denture brush every few days
B.will take a very long time to adjust himself or herself to them
C.will experience unpleasant feelings at the beginning of fixing them
D.should use denture solution to soak them in his or her mouth
26.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage
A.Partial dentures can prevent the remaining teeth from changing position.
B.Old people will find it hard to smile, talk, and eat properly without teeth.
C.A person’s teeth will possibly get loose if diseases strike his gums.
D.It is hard for a person to wear dentures if all his teeth have fallen out.
27.What does the underlined word “weird” mean in the fifth paragraph
A.inconvenient B.excited C.uncomfortable D.impolite
C
Aurora Nikula, 5, is having a normal day at her nursery. She is making a cake out of sand and mud, adding in make-believe carrots, potatoes and meat. Aki Sinkkonen, a scientist, is watching. He’s also very interested in Aurora’s cake, but for different reasons. “Perfect,” he says, admiring the way she is mixing soil, sand and leaves and then putting it on her face. “She’s really getting her hands in it.”
To a hygiene-conscious (注重卫生的) kindergarten, this could be a problem, but at Humpula daycare centre in Helsinki, children are encouraged to increase their contact with the microscopic (显微的) biodiversity. This kindergarten was included in a two-year study looking at how biodiversity enhancements affect the microbial composition of children’s skin and saliva.
The staff dug up and installed a giant live carpet of forest floor. The plants, dead wood and soil in the daycare centre were specially selected for their rich micro-biodiversity. Children grow carrots, potatoes and cucumbers, harvesting and cooking what they plant. When winter approaches, the crops fade — but the outdoor adventures do not.
A year later, it found that children who were in contact with nature had a lower probability of catching an illness resulting from disorders in the immune system. The results support the “old friends” hypothesis (假设) that humans evolved alongside microbes in air, plants and soil. The body can exchange useful microbes with the natural world to stay healthy. Without contact with these organisms — through soil, plants, and air — immune function can become overactive, leading to disease.
The kindergartens provide evidence of just how crucial healthy ecosystems are to human health. As biodiversity, habitats and wild species are lost around the planet, there is huge potential harm for human well being. Increasing on site biodiversity can be a win-win for children’s health and the environment.
Based on that, the University of Sheffield has done research on installing green barriers around school playgrounds to prevent air pollution from harming children’s health. Hunter’s Bar infant school in Sheffield created a 70-metre-long fence of plants that wraps around the playground. Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations in the playground were reduced by 13% six months after planting, and further decreases are expected as the fence matures.
28.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to
A.Guided hands-on practice. B.Kids’ exposure to dirt and mud.
C.Delicious homemade food for kids. D.The diversity of species in nurseries.
29.What did the staff at Humpula daycare centre do
A.Rewild their kindergarten. B.Grow a forest in the backyard.
C.Expand forest education among kids. D.Introduce kids to sustainable farming.
30.Why does nature contact reduce people’s chance of getting sick
A.It uplifts their mood. B.It enhances co-evolution.
C.It removes harmful microbes. D.It balances their immune system.
31.Why does the author mention the Sheffield study
A.To advocate for green schools.
B.To give direction for further research.
C.To promote healthy growth in school children.
D.To show an application of the research finding.

Inspired by an event held by the Dallas-based Daddy Stroller(婴儿车) Social Club (DSSC) , a group for fathers, Brandon Shaw wrote an 83-page typed letter to his father. From the Blacklit bookstore, Kalvin Bridgewater led 15 dads, including his own father, who was seated next to Shaw, in an emotional event where the men dug into what they hated, loved, misunderstood and appreciated about their fathers as they grew up.
Founded by Bridgewater in 2021, DSSC initially met with about 30 dads per event but skyrocketed in popularity after two online videos became hits in April 2024. It now attracts over 150 dads at events, where fathers bond over shared experiences and provide emotional backing for one another.
DSSC’s appeal is broad, attracting dads from various professions, including doctors, engineers, and electricians. The group emphasizes emotional support, with members regularly checking in on one another. As Shaw shared, the group provides a space where men can be open, asking, “How are you feeling ” Shaw, who joined the group when he first became a father, said it has made him more patient and understanding.
Bridgewater, who became a certified doula(产妇陪护师) to better support his wife through pregnancy(孕期), also ensures DSSC allows partners some time for themselves. At a May event, scheduled just before Mother’s Day, mothers had the day off while fathers spent time bonding with their children.
Brandon Shaw described the experience as transformative, saying it helped him connect with his own weaknesses, something he had previously kept hidden. He sent the letter he wrote to his father for Father’s Day. It arrives soon. He said he doesn’t expect a response and just hopes his father reads it. As Bridgewater puts it, fatherhood is just about “being honest and sharing”.
32.What can be inferred about DSSC from the first two paragraphs
A.It creates a group of father influencers. B.It repairs broken father-son relationships.
C.It promotes fathers’ emotional well-being. D.It highlights fathers’ vital role in childcare.
33.What makes DSSC appealing
A.Parenting instructions. B.Good childcare service.
C.Supportive atmosphere. D.Diverse member backgrounds.
34.Why is the May event mentioned in paragraph 4
A.To illustrate another aim of DSSC. B.To justify the founder’s personal experience.
C.To stress the importance of DSSC. D.To show an ideal husband-wife relationship.
35.What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A.The severity of parental issues. B.DSSC’s influence on its members.
C.The necessity to identify weaknesses. D.Bridgewater’s devotion to fatherhood.

Allergies (过敏) have become more common over the last 30 years. 36 Half of these sufferers are children.
Allergy is a reaction that occurs when the immune system, which produces substances to help your body fight against infection and disease, has a strange and unnecessary reaction to a normally harmless substance, such as seafood or peanuts. To defend your body against an attacker, the immune system remembers these dangerous micro-organisms and attacks them if it meets them again. 37 The immune system of allergy sufferers makes antibodies (抗体) against harmless substances because it mistakenly believes them dangerous.
An allergic reaction may not happen the first time a sufferer meets an allergen (the substance causing the reaction). 38 What has happened is that the immune system has now decided the substance is dangerous and has made an allergy antibody. This leads to the signs of an allergy, such as swelling, rashes, sneezing, sore eyes, and breathlessness. Some people are born with the ability to make lots of allergy antibodies. They are more likely to develop allergies.
There may also be a link between allergies and antibiotics (抗生素). At one time, our immune systems were kept busy fighting off disease and trying to win the battle for health, but antibiotics have reduced our immune systems’ work. 39
A good deal of research is being devoted to finding a cure for allergies. 40 They may also be offered tests to find out what substances cause an allergic reaction so that they can avoid contact with them in the future.
A.This work is done by antibodies.
B.The most severe allergic reaction must be treated immediately.
C.Sufferers may be given medicine to control the signs of illness.
D.Now, one-third of us are affected by an allergy at some point in our lives.
E.The antibody then attaches itself to cells, which contain certain chemicals.
F.Thus spare energy may be directed to harmless substances such as strawberries.
G.Sometimes, people can eat nuts for years and suddenly become allergic to them.

Teeth as time capsules
Teeth, in their seemingly ordinary role, hold within them a silent history. They reflect not only our personal stories but also the collective 41 of those before us.
I’ll never forget the moment when I lost a 42 as a child. It was a typical childhood experience — one that, in the moment, felt quite 43 . But as I reflect now, it 44 more than just physical growth. It marks the march of time. Teeth, like memories, change and decay (腐烂) , but they never truly disappear. They’re a 45 of our passage through life, one small bite at a time.
This idea of teeth as silent witnesses to personal history is something I’ve 46 more deeply as I’ve grown older. My grandmother, Zosia, was a dentist in post-war Poland. She didn’t pursue the profession out of passion, but out of 47 — after the war, the country was in 48 need of skilled workers. Her work, though often about 49 pain, also bore the weight of history. Every tooth she extracted and every cavity (龋洞) she filled, was 50 to the struggles, grief and survival of a generation marked by war. Her dental work wasn’t just a job — it was a way to 51 the broken lives around her.
I now understand how my grandmother’s dental work goes beyond its medical purpose-it is a (an) 52 of remembering and preserving the past in ways we often forget. In a 53 , teeth carry the imprint (印记) of time. They’re silent witnesses to our history, 54 in plain sight, reminding us of how we’ve survived, how we’ve grown, and how we continue to carry the 55 of our pasts.

47.A.guilt B.necessity C.anger D.curiosity
48.A.difficult B.quick C.emotional D.desperate

Eliot had always loved drawing more than anything else. Ever since he was a little boy, he’d curl up in his sunlit bedroom corner, pencil in hand, filling stacks of notebooks with detailed sketches of neighborhood cats, gnarled oak trees, and his grandma’s warm, crinkly smile. But a heavy shadow hung over his passion: he was born with red-green color blindness, a mild impairment that made bright hues blur together. Every time he mixed paint for art class, he got dull, muddy canvases, and classmates’ quiet snickers left his cheeks burning with shame.
By high school, Eliot’s dream of joining the school’s award-winning art club felt utterly impossible. He’d linger by the club room door long after classes ended, pressing his forehead to the cool glass to watch classmates paint vibrant, eye-catching murals, his own crumpled black-and-white sketches tucked tight deep in his backpack. He feared signing up would bring cruel mockery for his color blindness, or that his monochrome drawings would be dismissed as “lazy” and “unfinished.”
His art teacher, Ms. Lopez, had long noticed Eliot’s quiet, extraordinary talent. One rainy afternoon, she found him huddled in the empty hallway sketching a scruffy stray cat, and knelt gently beside him, her voice warm and soft. “These lines are incredible, Eliot. You capture life so beautifully, even in black and white.” Eliot’s head snapped up, ears turning bright pink, and he shut his sketchbook fast, fingers trembling. “It’s nothing,” he mumbled, staring hard at his scuffed sneakers. “I can’t do color. I’m not a real artist.” Ms. Lopez smiled gently, but didn’t push further that day.
A week later, Ms. Lopez announced a new club project: a black-and-white comic strip exhibition for the school’s upcoming literary festival. Eliot’s heart skipped a beat, but old, familiar insecurities held him back instantly. After class, she left a dog-eared graphic novel on his desk — drawn entirely in bold, striking black and white — with a handwritten note: “Talent isn’t in the colors you use. It’s in the stories you tell.”

1、续写词数应为150左右;

Text 10
When your doctor asks how often you exercise or what you've been eating lately,do you always give her an honest answer According to a new study, three fifths to four fifths of the people surveyed have not been completely honest with their doctors about information that could be relevant to their health. What's more, more than a third of them didn't speak up when they disagreed with their doctor's recommendation. When those people explained why they weren't straightforward, they said that they didn't want to be lectured about how bad certain behaviors were. The study included two populations:the first group consisted of 2,011 participants who averaged 24 years old, and the second group was made up of 2,499 participants who averaged 61 years old.Scientists from four American universities carried out the study, and their results have been published online. In the study, the first author expressed her concern."It's surprising. If patients are withholding information about what they're eating,or whether they are taking their medication,it can have significant results for their health especially if they have an illness," she said.

I notice you rely too much on AI tools while working on our research report. Actually, AI is a great helper — it can save time for data searching and polish our language, which helps improve the report’s quality if used properly.
To fix the problem, why not draft the report by yourself first Use AI only to check mistakes or refine expressions instead of letting it write for you. Also, think independently when meeting difficulties before turning to AI for ideas.
I hope my suggestions work for you. Let’s cooperate well and finish a wonderful report together. If you need help, just let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua

67.【答案】One possible version:
Eliot took the novel home, filled with courage. The rainy night pattered on the window, and he sat at the dim desk, fingertips caressing the novel’s dog-eared pages. His droopy shoulders straightened slowly, eyes brightening under the desk lamp. He flipped open his crumpled sketchbook, pencil gliding across the paper — no more trembling fingers, no furrowed brows. He drew the stray cat with a milk bowl beside it, pouring all his warmth into every line. By midnight, the comic strip was done; he stroked the paper gently, eyes full of hesitant hope.
Eliot’s comic strip was a festival hit. The exhibition hall was bustling, and his black-and-white work stood out, surrounded by admiring students. Eliot hid in a corner, clutching his clothes, cheeks flushed with shyness. Ms. Lopez walked over, patting his shoulder softly with a warm smile: “Eliot, your work touches everyone — this is the true beauty of art.” He looked up, eyes glistening with tears, whispering: “Thank you, Ms. Lopez. I finally dare to be proud of my drawings.” The art club leader soon came to invite him, and a faint smile tugged at his lips.
