A Robot Dance Competition Held Successfully
Last Friday, our school successfully held a wonderful robot dance competition in the school hall, which appealed to many students and teachers to watch.
Teams from different grades showcased their well-programmed robots. The robots danced neatly to various music styles, some even performing difficult moves like turning and stepping. The audience cheered warmly for each team. The atmosphere was extremely lively throughout the competition.
This competition not only aroused students’ interest in science and technology but also encouraged teamwork. It was a great success that left a deep impression on everyone.
【答案】One possible version:
Looking at her worried face, I felt a sudden increase of determination inside me. “You are not alone,” I promised, gripping her trembling hand. “We’ll conquer the stage together.” Realizing that Sylvia depended on me, I found the courage to face my fear. We spent the remaining weeks glued to the studio floor, repeating every step until our movements flowed smoothly. We corrected each other’s errors and celebrated small victories. The anxiety that once held me back was replaced by a sense of responsibility. We were no longer two strangers; we were a team, drawing strength from one another to perfect our routine before the big moment.
The day of the holiday performance finally came. Stepping onto the stage, I felt the familiar heat of the bright lights, but this time, I didn’t freeze. I took a deep breath, looking at Sylvia. She offered a determined and brave nod. Then the music began. We moved as one body, our feet gliding across the wooden floor with grace. Every turn was correct; every jump was high. When we finished our final move, loud cheers rose from the audience. Spotting Sylvia’s grandmother smiling in the front row, I realized that true success wasn’t about avoiding fear, but sharing the challenge with a friend.2025-2026学年辽宁葫芦岛市第一高级中学高一4月英语学科试题

Over the past three years, Kang Jian has created more than 400 dough sculptures (面塑) and become a city-level inheritor (传承人) of this intangible cultural heritage in Mohe, Heilongjiang Province.
“When I was a little boy, every time my parents made dumplings, they would give me a small piece of dough,” he said. “I tried to make various animals — a rabbit, a fish, or a snail. The small, simple objects brought me lots of good childhood memories and planted the seeds of fine art, especially sculpture, in my heart.” Kang’s parents were not financially able to support his desire to study fine arts while he was at school. But he didn’t give up. He spent his spare time after school studying drawing by himself.
Then, in December 2018, during a visit to a museum in Beijing, Kang, for the first time, got information about the intangible cultural heritage of dough sculpting, which attracted him greatly. “I was really excited to learn about dough sculpting.” he said. “Then I had the idea of taking my childhood interest up again.” He then spent 20 days learning skills from Bai Chunyu, a provincial-level inheritor of dough sculpting. And in August 2019, he got the chance to learn from another national-level inheritor.
Kang spent nearly all his spare time practicing, hoping to improve quickly. “To learn as much as possible during my 40 days there, I practiced every day from 6 am until late at night,” he said. “When I slept, I had to put my hands in hot water to relieve the pain. But all the efforts turned out to be worth it.”
In April, Kang completed the dough sculptures of 108 characters from the novel Outlaws of the Marsh after 16 months of work. “Most of my dough sculptures are traditional Chinese characters. In my mind, the real value of my dough sculpture as a national intangible cultural heritage lies in its connection with traditional Chinese culture. That’s the charm and significance of the art,” he said.
24. What inspired Kang to have the dream of dough sculpting
A. His talent for drawing.
B. His admiration for Bai’s skills.
C. His parents’ encouragement and support.
D. His childhood experiences with dough.
25. What did Kang do to learn dough sculpting
A. He sought guidance from masters.
B. He paid frequent visits to museums.
C. He got formal training at an art school.
D. He sought help from many sculpting lovers.
26. What does Kang probably think of his learning of dough sculpting
A. Tiring but rewarding. B. Costly and stressful.
C. Fruitful and smooth. D. Boring but productive.
27. Why does Kang like making dough sculptures of Chinese characters
A. To get more recognition.
B. To attract more enthusiasts.
C. To better express Chinese culture.
D. To improve skills with familiar characters.
C
Many people often feel they don’t have enough time, even when they actually have more free hours. This is because when it comes to time, its quality is as important as its quantity. We often wish for an extra hour in the day, but even when we get it, many still feel time-pressed.
This feeling is called “time poverty”, which means having too many things to do and not enough time to do them. It’s more about how we feel than simply counting how many hours we have. Recent research shows that this feeling depends more on perceived shortages than actual ones. Constant interruptions, long to-do lists, and not being in control of one’s time can all worsen this feeling.
To understand this better, researchers have tried to find an “optimal” amount of free time. One study of over 35,000 Americans found that having 2 to 5 hours daily for enjoyable activities was linked to the greatest well-being. However, this optimal time is subjective. If people use their free time for hobbies or quality time with friends and family, the unusual sense of feeling worse due to “too much” free time disappears entirely.
A study in China with 100,000 people also had surprising results. Over half of those who felt time-poor actually had more than 1.8 hours of free time daily. On the other hand, more than a third with less free time did not feel time-poor. This clearly shows the difference between the amount of free time one has and how one feels about it. Further research revealed that high time pressure and fragmented (碎片化的) time made people feel more time-poor. In contrast, feeling deeply involved in activities made them feel richer in time.
Reducing time poverty requires both individual and societal changes, researchers say. On an individual level, experts suggest doing a “daily audit”. This means tracking your activities, how long they take, and how you feel afterward. This can help you understand how you spend your time, for example, on social media, and then make changes to use your time more wisely.
28. What can we learn about “time poverty” in paragraph 2
A. It leads to poor time control.
B. It arises from too many tasks.
C. It is mainly a subjective sense of lack.
D. It is largely caused by limited free time.
29. What does the underlined word “optimal” mean in paragraph 3
A. Exact. B. Extra. C. Average. D. Ideal.
30. Why does the author mention a study in China
A. To offer further evidence.
B. To give a practical example.
C. To make detailed comparisons.
D. To draw a different conclusion.
31. What can “daily audit” help you do
A. Manage your time reasonably.
B. Avoid social media completely.
C. Adjust emotional states regularly.
D. Promote societal changes gradually.
D
In the summer of 2021, an unusual event took place. More than 100 miles of Florida’s coast around Tampa Bay became an oxygen-depleted (缺氧的) zone containing dead fish along the nearby shoreline.
Much of the conversation around our climate crisis highlights the emission of greenhouse gases and their effect on warming and sea-level rise. We hear little about the effect of climate change on oxygen levels, particularly in oceans and lakes. But water without enough oxygen cannot support life. For the three billion people who depend on coastal fisheries for income, declining ocean oxygen levels are damaging.
As scientists focus on climate, we believe that oceanic oxygen levels are the next big victim of global warming. To stop the situation from worsening, we need to expand our attention to include the dangerous state of oceanic oxygen levels — the life-support system of our planet. We need to accelerate (加速) ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. Examples include nature-based solutions such as those discussed at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow.
Enhanced monitoring of oxygen and the establishment of an oxygen-accounting system are a must. Putting oxygen into the climate story motivates us to do the work to understand the deep systemic changes happening in our complex atmospheric and oceanic systems. We celebrated the return of humpback whales in recent years to an increasingly clean New York Harbor and Hudson River. However, dead fish blocked the Hudson in the summer as warmer waters carried less oxygen.
Ecosystem changes connected to physical and chemical system-level data may point the way to new approaches to climate solutions. It includes an enhanced understanding of the life-support system of our planet. Roughly 40 percent of the world’s people depend on the ocean for their livelihoods. If we do not save marine life from oxygen starvation, we starve ourselves.
32. What is the result of less ocean oxygen according to the text
A. Sudden sea-level rises.
B. Shortage of water resources.
C. Increased deaths of sea animals.
D. Unusual climate change in coastal areas.
33. What do scientists advise to deal with ocean oxygen loss
A. Repair life-supporting system.
B. Stop all ocean-related activities.
C. Build more coastal fishing areas.
D. Speed up oxygen-boosting solutions.
34. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A. Physical data can solve all climate problems.
B. Marine life is facing serious oxygen shortage.
C. Most people make a living in fishing industry.
D. Ocean life is closely linked to human survival.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Let Oceans Breathe. B. Protect Marine Life.
C. Fix the Climate Crisis. D. Clean the Ocean Water.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
I put on a headset, and within seconds I am somewhere else. Ice sheets float on dark water. Wind brushes past my ears, sharp and restless. In the distance, mountains glow (发光) under the moonlight. Moments later, I find myself inside a museum, leaning close to a painting I have never seen in real life. ___36___ This is the promise of virtual reality (VR): a world delivered to us without leaving home.
There is much to appreciate in this form of travel. ___37___ There is no need to consider weather conditions, health issues or financial pressure. You may enter distant places at any moment and leave just as freely. For those restricted by schedule, health, or income, VR quietly removes barriers that traditional travel often sets in place.
___38___ Travelers wander through unfamiliar streets, sample local dishes, and engage face-to-face with people shaped by different traditions. Such encounters awaken the senses and create lasting memories. More importantly, they change how places feel to us, not just how we understand them.
This distinction is clear, because learning about a destination is not the same as being there. Virtual travel offers designed scenes and programmed sensations, but it remains carefully controlled. Real travel, by contrast, is shaped by unpredictability. ___39___ In those unplanned moments, understanding becomes lived rather than recorded.
Virtual reality will undoubtedly continue to evolve, enriching how we preview journeys and imagine distant worlds. Still, it cannot replace actual presence. Travel is not simply about seeing farther; it is also about feeling where you stand. ___40___
A. I am not moving, yet I am traveling.
B. Yet real travel leaves a deeper mark.
C. My feet ache as my journey stretches across the day.
D. Virtual journeys are convenient, time-saving, and widely accessible.
E. Some knowledge, it seems, only arrives when your feet are on the ground.
F. It demands choices, adaptation, and constant awareness of the unexpected.
G. But the convenience may gradually weaken our desire to explore the real world.

“Oh no!” I shouted as I searched through my dance bag. My dance shoes were nowhere to be found. For a moment, I could hardly hide a smile — finally, an excuse not to go to the tiring practice! However, Mom drove straight to the studio (练功房). “Ms. Linda keeps some spare dance shoes,” she reminded gently. I took a deep breath, walked in unwillingly and fished out a pair.
“Only four weeks remain before the holiday performance,” Ms. Linda told the class. “We must focus and work hard.” My heart dropped, and the memory of last year’s stage failure flashed back — I was unable to move and breathe properly under bright lights. That night, I begged Mom to let me quit. Surprisingly, she didn’t force me to keep going. Instead, she said quietly, “It’s your decision, Kami. But have you thought about your partner Can she make it without you ”
“She won’t mind,” I said, “She probably doesn’t even know my name.”
The next Friday, Mom picked me up from school. As we drove away, she asked if I wanted to attend the dance class. “No,” I whispered, “Not today.” “Okay,” Mom nodded understandingly. I breathed easy, sure that I had made the right choice, thinking no one would notice one absent dancer in the crowded studio.
On Saturday, during a shopping trip, I unexpectedly ran into my dance partner at checkout. “Hi, Kami!” she called cheerfully. I stood still, my face red, and realized I didn’t even know her name until she introduced herself as Sylvia. Then her smile disappeared. “I missed you yesterday. Honestly, I’m frightened about the show. My grandma is flying in just to watch, and I fear that I’ll mess up our paired moves.”
What she said struck me. I knew I was not the only one who was afraid all the time. Dance was not only my hard thing; it was our common fight.
